Yeah I'm pretty used to ups and downs professionally. In the past 12 years I've had 3 internal promotions that resulted in me making less money each time, been through a company selling my division to a competitor who explicitly wanted to shut us down, been part of starting a company twice, gone through 2 major successful acquisitions, the last of which was to Microsoft and then was part of MSFT's first mass layoffs after being picked as 1 of Microsoft's up and coming leaders.

You’ve done well to land on your feet. Resilience is often one of the best assets to have in your portfolio.

12 to 15k is about the minimum buy in if you are buying in through Disney direct. Its about 12k at AKV and 14K with discounts for BLT.

There aren't many contracts for sale in the 3k range but there are some. There are a fair number that are 6500 and below though.

65 may be a stretch, but this makes sense. The research may be worthwhile, but pulling the trigger on it may be unlikely (unless I run across one of those smaller contracts)

Had a Beverly of a day yesterday. Today is a bit better so far. I think I just need to get through the rest of this month in one piece, and things should start looking up again.

Hope things start to clear up a bit. I’m seeing the same kind of January madness, but it will get better as we approach late Feb and March.

just got the mail and there was a letter from Chase. They've decided to close my Disney Rewards account.

We received the first of many yet to come college brochures in the mail today.

Fun stuff. And oh yeah, those tuition bills... However we are fortunately blessed in that that's been taken care of for us. Awful as last year was, there was definitely a silver lining to that cloud as FIL set aside for all 7 of his grandchildren in that regard, separate trust funds for all, with enough for each for 4 years at the school of their choice. For all of the woes I endured through those years with his strong, sometimes overbearing ways, I very much appreciate what he did to leave a positive legacy for the family, and for providing this wonderful inheritance for them. DW is working through all of the logistics with the tax attorneys, financial planners and the like, and it has been a bit frustrating, but everything should be transferred properly by May or June. What he left for us will take a little longer, but that's okay - I'm not complaining.

That is quite a legacy that he left. Education for all grandchildren is certainly something that will make a difference for your family.

If you really are lucky, you can even find some contracts in the 30-50 range, and through banking and borrowing you could make them work as well - if you don't want to go every single year.

Well, it wasn't strictly a Disney conversation. DW and I both grew up in families of 5. We were talking about how nothing is set up for a family that size. It's like the world revolves around even number families.

I always grew up the odd man out whenever we went anywhere. I had 2 younger sisters... and they were twins. I guess that's why I don't mind going off on my own and riding a roller coaster by myself. I've been doing it my whole life.

We are very fortunate. I hope to be able to do so for my grandchildren someday as well, but only time will tell. FIL was an investor going back to the 60's. His portfolio was filled with stocks, bonds, and lots and lots of real estate. My BIL has been working the professionals starting to divest and figure out what to keep on the real estate side of the equation. It's going to be a long process. The kids won't have access to anything until they either a) graduate from HS or b) are 18 - those are locked away separately in individual trust funds. Short of a preliminary disbursement we received in December, the adults don't get anything until my SIL (the oldest) turns 45 - but that's in June, so BIL is trying to get all of the ducks in a row so that the subsequent disbursements can begin.

That's often the case - they go the FASTEST. To make those happen, you'd need to sign-up with the TSS and they'll email or call you when a contract like that comes in before they post it on the site.

It was a wonderful bit of news to learn when he sat us down and told us shortly before his death. It was incredible for the boys to hear from him when he sat all of the grandchildren down to tell them as well. NONE of us knew it before he did that. We all knew he was financially successful, just not how successful. He never shared anything like that with any of kids until about a month before he died when he finally accepted he was dying and had to start relinquishing control of his affairs.

I like to approach correspondence in the same way that I’d approach conversation, as such I tend to write in the same manner as I speak (of course my various “Language Arts” teachers were not fond of either form).

Diction and cadence (and a liberal use of contractions) are more important to the South’rn dialect then the nasal draw that most actors prefer to accentuate.

Not to worry… I wasn’t in any way offended.

If you ever get the chance to actually hear me speak, it will sound odd. We moved a lot when I was young and didn’t settle into the Carolinas until I was fourteen, so you can tell that I’m from the east coast, but you’re not exactly sure from precisely where (until you notice the diction).

Samuel Clemons, you say… that is mighty high praise indeed, although I’m sure that my nemesis will latch on the Foghorn Longhorn comparison (but it's all good... I can live with that one. )
