I start my staycation today so I figured it's time to get a post in on this thread. Not much going on here. My DW is still trying to recover from her tumor surgery and radiation; it's not going real well. I had the opportunity to see my son perform with the Blue Angels last weekend at Joint Base Andrews in MD (my older son went with me). I reach 25 years of service with my company on June 1st; no extra vacation week with that one. :sad2:
The grandkids are great, which is a real blessing!
That's about it. I hope everyone here is doing well and getting ready for a great summer!
Egads! It looks like I have staycation ownage! Hard to believe!

Hey Old Man! Good to hear from you. Will be keeping your wife in my prayers. Come around more often, we could use your wisdom. :thumbsup2

Morning Men.

Day 3 of the wife being away and day 2 of the parents' visit. We had a nice dinner last night at Montana's Cookhouse and then watched some hockey. Pretty Canadian Eh!

Two soccer games today for DS and then some nice BBQ steak, probably include some "pops" with that as well. If any of you happen to be near, we can add some steak to the BBQ.

First soccer game down, unfortunately a 2 - 0 loss. Too many kids figure they can dribble through 5 defenders. Second one coming up in an hour, hopefully it will be a little cooler by then.

Hi everyone, I am coming out of lurkdom again. I have been following, on and off, what has been going on. I do stop by the FB page often.

On the job front, I have almost finished the training. I had a job shadow day last Monday with the regular carrier. Sitting in the jump seat of a USPS truck for a few hours is no fun. The regular carrier has no plans for any time off and the route she has no longer has a second day off (I don't understand some of the contract stuff) so she does not need me, but since she requested a sub be assigned, I am it. I am supposed to be trained on a couple other routes later. I am supposed to have one day of OJT and a week of "casing" the mail. Casing is sorting it into delivery order. When I job shadowed, we started casing at 7:30 and were not able to load the truck until 12:00 noon.

I am also in need of videos of NYC. Please see the thread I started:http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=44997268#post44997268

And I almost forgot, we are trying to plan a trip 1st week of August to WDW to see some friends from our Baltic cruise and another trip at Xmas.

Passing can be difficult at any age. Good luck on the second one. I don't think soccer was supposed to be played when it was this hot.

Good news on the job. How long is your nap each day? The last mailman used to take a 1 to 2 hour nap under a tree parked in his car and we got the mail around 5:30. The new mail carrier has it here around 2. Or, it could be the same one taking a nap elsewhere.

Yes, you seem like such an ice guy. :p

Also, Great job with the no-trip report Norm!

Thanks. Getting ready for the new installment.

Morning guys!

There may be a slight disturbance in the force today :darth:

Rumor has it there may be a disdad/nemesis meet in S. IN.

Will report more later :thumbsup2

Good to see you today and glad to see you made it home safely, or we're posting while driving,

DISDad's good Deed of the Day

I was out at Wal Mart this afternoon, and as I was leaving the parking lot, I say a Black Canvas bag on the road exiting the parking lot. Clearly out of place. I thought... do I run it over and see how many points it's worth, or do I pick it up. ;)

Well, I pulled over, picked up the bag, and opened it.

It was a Camera, with extra batteries, charger, memory sticks, etc...

I looked through the pockets of the bag, and found the receipt. They paid almost $750 for this equipment. :scared1:
I also found a few business cards. The card's matched the name on the reciept.

I e-mailed the owner right away... and got an out of office reply.

So I sold the camera on Ebay! :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2:

J/K... I think I'll wait a few days, to hear back. There is also a office phone number on the card so I will give them a call in a few days if I don't hear back.

I used this as a lesson for my kids... in doing the right thing.

Darn Kids... jipped me of a camera. :lmao:

Staycation - Day 5.

A short travel trip - 2 hours away - so will still call it a staycation. We went to the famous Starlight, IN. It is home to Huber Farms and Winery.

temporary-68.jpg

It is also home to a talking tree.

temporary-71.jpg

We got to meet up with my nemesis, David, aka theduck, and his family. I would say that he's the ugly one, but that wouldn't help clarify anything.

temporary-66.jpg

First up, let's go pick some strawberries.

temporary-69.jpg

temporary-64.jpg

temporary-70.jpg

I will need to work with them on picking fruit. They both picked some underripe strawberries, some overripe, and then they kept moving over rows until they were almost out of the strawberry fields. Apparently, they thought it best to to pick only one strawberry from each plant and from a plant in every row.

Overall, a good yield. We will be having strawberries for dinner tonight, with a strawberry appetizer and strawberries for dessert.

temporary-73.jpg

After the strawberry patch, we returned for some pictures, lunch, and dessert.

temporary-65.jpg

I didn't photograph lunch, but we got the equivalent family style skillets while David and his family had a normal size meal. Well, the family style meal was enough for about 10 people - fried chicken, ham, mashed potatos, dumplings, beans, corn, broccoli salad, cole slaw, and biscuits and apple butter. The apple butter was in a squirt bottle - genius. We shared a bottle of blackberry merlot from the winery and even bought one for later.

temporary-72.jpg

We had some ice cream and played with the ducks and fishes before we left, betting on which child would fall in the water first. David may be a terrible, evil nemesis, but he is a great guy. His family is also really nice. I think our dds played well with each other. Thanks for a great trip and adding another chapter to the staycation.

Sorry you had to be put through such a torturous afternoon David. :lmao:

J/K Norm... Great pic, and sounds like a fun day! :thumbsup2

Oh, and you didn't lose a camera, did you?

Staycation ownage. Why am I watching a Cleveland vs Chicago MLB game?

Well, I didn't see you at the Walmart next door to the farm, but it may have been on the other side of the parking lot. Sure, it's my camera. Just go ahead and pawn it and mail me half the money you get for it. That will further your children's training towards the dark side,

We had a great time as well! The girls were disappointed our day had to come to an end.

You have an awesome family and we will definitely look into doing a Holiday World meet!

The job seems to be going going well. Good luck with it. Wish I could help you with video from NY. Have some pictures from our last trip if you can use them. Still trying to recover older NYC pics from a burnt out computer.

Darn kids and the lessons we teach them. Sure even if the kids didn't know about it, you would be doing the same thing. Buy a lottery ticket, it is a karma thing.

Weren't you playing with the DUCKS all day? What did you do throw breadcrumbs to David and his family?

Looks like a great time was had by all.

Don't I know it. There are guys in my masters league that haven't figures out it's quicker to move the ball by passing than dribbling through the other team.

Second game was much better, the boys came away with a 6-1 win. Here are some of pictures from the two games. Declan is in yellow.

That apple butter idea was genius. I should have taken a picture of it as well. Let us know about Holiday World. My youngest fell asleep shortly after we got in the car, he usual, but woke up and asked when they could play again.

True CJ. We just went and watched the other ducks with feathers. They must be the Inlaws.
