I hope everyone enjoyed their holiday weekend. We returned home late last night and I'm finally getting caught up on the last two days.

Thanksgiving was good. I still smell like cigarettes though, which is always one of the bad parts about the in-laws. I have also had my fill of the Merritt Parkway after driving on it 8 times since wednesday. :lmao:

Tonight we ate the Turkey leftovers, putting an end to the holiday.

I can now focus on Christmas. Got some of the lights and decorations out today. Gonna try to see if I can fix some of the things that aren't working over the next few days. One thing I've been trying to do is to replace all the incandescent bulbs with LEDs, and I can fix a few of the non-working items using the LED sets I bought on clearance after last season.

:lmao: yup, 1969 grad !! you can have him. :lmao:
i have to say, easton kids are a class act.win or lose:thumbsup2
for your dw, its hard just waiting for something to happen. from what we have learned, effects from radiation treatments can take awhile. good or bad. tammys tumor was still shrinking a year after her treatment. a year after her treatment the spot on her brain showed up. which is a side effect of the radiation. this spot can get bigger, get smaller and maybe go away or just stay there the rest of her life. i guess the way you have to look at it is what or how would she be without the treatment? we thought the same way, get the treatment, 2 weeks its gone, dont have to come back again. it took almost six months for the radiation to really impact her tumor that you could see on an mri. than, the next month, it shrank like crazy. dont give up buddy!! give it some time. :thumbsup2
flag is coming home soon? :woohoo:

Thanks for the info, Dave! She is really discouraged, which doesn't help.
As for the flag, David will be coming into ABE on the afternoon of the 18th and leaving Christmas morning at 6:00 AM. After a week or so in P'cola, they will be leaving for winter training in El Centro. I'm thinking about taking vacation the week he is home which would give me 17 days or so in a row, but I'm not sure yet. I'll get the flag to you, one way or another; hopefully, with David in tow!

Morning Dads,
Yes, a trip report is coming - I just haven't had time to write it on a daily basis, and my notes are . . . . well, unreadable comes to mind.

Up very early yesterday to be at MK at rope drop. Got in some rides, early lunch at the Habor House, finally got to see the new Haunted Mansion - the interactive queue is very nice. Killed a bit more time at MK, then over to Epcot for an early dinner to celebrate DW's b-day at Beirgarten. Liter of beer for me, and plenty of food, then off to the Candelight Processional. Spent a bit more time, then Illuminations. Sleeping kid + whiney kid x 1 stroller = me carrying the sleeper from France back through the front gate, waiting for a bus, and then off to our rooms at OWK.

Will catch up on posts later - if not, good thoughts/prayers to those who ask, congrats when appropriate, and random nonsensical commentary otherwise.

Ok I checked in on the first page, i couldn't find the last thread. Was confuesed and apparently missed ALOT. Have been gone visiting family and hunting. Like I said I managed to check in on the first page of this board but now just caught back up agian. Wow. Over 20 pages.

Glad to see (from what I can tell) that everyone is back.
(sounds like I missed our on some pictures. Maybe we could get emails sent to those who missed out. Just sayn')

Hunting was ok. I only saw 4 doe but they were always running directly awayfrom me when they would jump up out of the brush. :headache: The quiet of the woods was nice... Except for the stupid squirrels running around in the leaves making me think something was coming.

If I were a Turkey Leg - I would do the exact same. :)

Well at least you have a good football season from one Pennsylvania team.... :rotfl::rotfl2:

Quiet morning Ownage?

Usually there is a lot more activity by the time I get online in the AM.

Well, Good Morning to all. Time to try and be productive. :thumbsup2

Just a word of explanation guys. It looks like based on some private messages as well as facebook entries that I really am indeed not welcome here anymore.

I saw very inappropriate and non disboard type stuff posted at the end of the last thread. I posted about it and then there were more links to other inappropriate pictures a couple of pages later. That's when I sent a note to a moderator. It wasn't something that belonged on the board and I wanted it cleaned up and from what I saw it was being ignored. I asked to have the pictures cleaned up and did not ask them to ban anyone. I don't even remember who was posting what.

I am now a "troll" and "an outsider who will never be a disdad" as it has been so eloquently stated to me. I have always tried to treat everyone I have posted to with respect and kindness and tried to be helpful whenever possible on disboards.

I am very sorry that I am not welcome here anymore and wish each and every single one of you the greatest success in life and beyond. May God bless you and keep you and your families. We leave for Disneyland tomorrow but my heart is broken that you all think of me the way you do. Again, I am sorry.

Jim Meyer

Jim,
I hope you enjoy your Disneyland trip, and I hope that you are not chased away from this place. I'd like to try to place some of the anger that you're seeing in context, and hopefully this can all blow over and we can move on like adults.

I think there was a lot of frustration with the way the whole post reporting/banning situation went down. We have been proud of the fact that we've been quite good at taking care of situations like this "in house," and in addition to my own personal embarassment at the poor judgment I exercised when posting, I think the group took it a bit personally that we weren't given a chance to fix the issue ourselves first. You say that you "wanted it cleaned up and that it was begin ignored." That's not really a fair characterization.

You first posted an objection late a night. I don't know if you looked back after you posted that objection, but I immediately posted a string of perfectly clean, non-objectionable images. My goal was to push the objectionable images back from the "end" of the thread in the short run. I was exhausted and falling asleep, but wanted to do something before heading to bed. When I came back in the morning, I went to see what needed to be deleted, but didn't get the opportunity, because I'd been banned. According to the information in my PMs when my access was restored, complaints didn't register until after 1:30 a.m. in my time zone. The initial posts weren't made until well after 11 p.m. my time. So the idea that your statement that your concerns "were being ignored" is frankly unfair. You weren't being ignored. I was just asleep.

I think that we all learned something from this incident. We got far too comfortable in our little corner of the boards here, forgetting that we are still guests in someone else's home here, and subject to their rules. I don't think we'll forget that again. Again, I think most of the posts that you saw were from people who were angry that we weren't given a reasonable opportunity to fix the issues ourselves, before moderators were brought in to the mix. Heck, the first PM that I got about the situation were the violation notices from the mod. A head's up that the situation was not resolved by a change in the posting pattern would have gotten a reasonable response from me, but no effort was made to contact me in that manner.

Bottom line - the situation is in the past, it's over, and we should ALL be moving forward now. Jim, I hope that we can all bury the hatchet over this incident and leave it behind us.

Yep. Just saw it in a store here in Iowa. They dumped the White Ale this year for a new one called "Black and Brew" which is a coffee stout. Looks promising. Unfortunately they kept the Chocolate Bock (awful in my opinion).

I remember when the Sam Adams folks did a recipe contest. One of the winners was a Longshot Hazelnut Brown Ale. I thought it was the best beer ever made. It's been about 10 years since they stopped making it, but my opinion hasn't changed.

Nowadays, I like the stuff from Dogfish Head Brewery in DE. The Raison d'être is my current favorite.

Hey guys! Just checked in and our in our room 7825 :cool1:

Getting ready for 1900 Park Fare :woohoo:

Wish me luck :thumbsup2

Good luck; we're all counting on you.

Now, as to the recent unpleasantness, let's please keep a few things in mind:

1. The folks who were posting the pictures in the last thread that got them hit with the ban did, in the cold light of day, admit that they probably should not have posted them. I don't think that anyone is on the "pro-racy pictures on the DisBoards" side of the argument. Maybe on the "pro-racy pictures" side of the argument, but there is a time and place for everything. :cool1:

2. It sounds like the ban was automatic. Kathy checked the situation out, and I know a lot of the guys here spoke up in defense of Aaron and the others as decent folks and credits to the DisBoards community, as well as the community here. The bans got rescinded. It took a little while, but as anyone who works with technology knows, automatic machine-driven things happen quickly, sorting out the aftereffects takes a while when humans have to get involved.

3. I post rarely enough that I'm not a big contributor to this community, but I do feel a sense of community here. I would like to see the community maintain a high standard of inclusion and tolerance. I know that can be tough when you feel like the group has been attacked, but I don't think that there was an attack here, there was no arbitrary action on the part of the admins, just an automatic response that was corrected, and everyone is back in good standing on the boards here. There was nothing personal in any of this.

4. I'm here because I like to read and, occasionally, respond to the things that other dads who love Disney have to say. Occasionally, we have folks who do not fit that definition show up. Even moms! I think we've been able to avoid coming off like the "He-Man Women Haters Club" from the old Little Rascals cartoon while playfully reminding folks who aren't dads or even male where they are posting. It's a pretty clear definition of inclusion, and I don't think that anyone should be surprised that the stuff posted here is probably of most interest to dads who are interested in Disney. It's right there in the subforum name.

Anyway, I've been thinking about this for a few days, started a Facebook response to one of the threads there, and managed to not post it before I quit my browser, so I came here with the thoughts.

Well, well, well. It certainly was a Thanksgiving to remember for the DDC, wasn't it? I caught some of the ruckus over on Facebook and see that we're now 20+ pages into a new thread. I'm not going to go back and figure out exactly what happened - I'm just going to sit here and assume that we can learn whatever lesson is available and move on from there. (But if something important happened in those 20 pages, just let me know)

And speaking of moving on, you might notice that my signature has been updated. We had the ultrasound on Wednesday and brought both kids along. Madison made it immediately known to the tech that she wanted to know the gender of the baby. But she had to sit though several agonizing minutes of the tech checking the placenta, taking measurements, etc. Finally, the tech called Madison over and whispered in her ear. Madison got a huge grin and walked back over to me, saying "I have a secret." I asked what the secret was, and she replied "I'm not telling."

She couldn't keep the secret long, however, and began jumping up and down in the ultrasound room yelling "IT'S A BOY! IT'S A BOY! IT'S A BOY!"

We wanted to use a name from somewhere in the Disney universe, but "Eric" and "Philip" where too common; "Walt" a little too old fashioned; and "Goofy" was, well, not approved by She Who Must Be Obeyed. So we picked Ryder - borrowed from Flynn Rider from Tangled. (His middle name is Ethan - a masculinized version of my mom's middle name - Ethelyn.)

Bottom line - the situation is in the past, it's over, and we should ALL be moving forward now. Jim, I hope that we can all bury the hatchet over this incident and leave it behind us.

Aaron, thanks for responding to Jim in that manner. I think it was highly appropriate, and I hope he doesn't feel like he's being chased away.

Thanks for posting that, Eric. I appreciate it.

I think the bottom line is that if you have a problem or an issue with someone else in the group, talk to him directly about it. I think most guys here are perfectly willing to admit mistakes and take responsibility for making corrective actions. I'm sure we will all say/post something that gets taken the wrong way or offends someone at some point. Such is the nature of message boards. We shouldn't be afraid to call each other on something (in a tactful manner), and we should be ready to forgive and move on as well.

I also hope the spirit of inclusion and tolerance continues. Like Brian posted a few days ago, this is one of the few groups I've seen where people can have intelligent discussions about various subjects without devolving into a shouting match. We've been able to respect the fact that we have good reasons for thinking/believing the things we do, and I hope that respect continues.

More than anything, we probably need a really good fart joke at this point. :)

Now there's some GOOD news! Congratulations!

I guess you didn't suggest "Tron" or "Beaker" either?

So yesterday we took the girls to see the Muppets and without giving any spoilers away, it was great.

Admittedly there were a few areas that dragged a bit, but on the whole we all loved it.

The funniest part was as we were heading back to the car all three DDs and I were singing the Mana Mana song and DW was trying to act like she wasn't with us. :rotfl2:

I think I rolled back about 25 years or so during the show and I highly recommend it to anyone.

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 (Yup, that's 2 thumbs WAY up)

Barry-
That's awesome. What were you hoping for? C'mon be honest.. And most importantly, how will you get him to be a Cubs fan when he's growing up in Brewer Country?

Hey Nemesis.... pull my finger. :rotfl2:

Why? What's going to happen? :confused3 :rotfl2:
