I met up with Elin for a short time this morning. We met up at a Panera right off the highway. It was a nice morning and we sat outside and had a nice visit. Elin-thanks for the ice tea! I meant to give you some $$$ but then we got chatting. I hope you family doesn't hate me as the traffic going south looked SO much heavier when I got back on the highway to go back to work than it do when you stopped to see me.

I got to work early so now I get to go home early. We don't have any plans for the weekend other than my plans for sewing and I really want to purchase a new matress.

Love this one, and the new one in your sig.

I have a dental appt. this morning to have a chip in my front tooth filled, and to fill the gap that is slowly separating my front teeth. I hope it looks okay.

Thank you! I hope your procedure was quick and painless today, and you're happy with the results!

Amy,
Beautiful pictures!!!

My neice & nephew are leaving today. I have to bring them to their other grandmother (not my MIL). They have been having alot of fun together, more than I thought they would & they are all alittle sad that they are going.

Thank you! I'm glad you all ended up having a nice visit!

So I came home from work but still have stuff to finish this weekend, before I go away. My stomach hurts and I feel blah. I think I may have a fever but I just ate an italian ice, so I can not take my temperature. That is the only thing I have eaten.

Feel better Becky!

Hi folks..

I am sick....I was around a gaggle of kids on Saturday....and have been suffering from a sore throat since. I broke down and went to the doctor today. She didn't really diagnose me....but gave me drugs...so I am happy

I need to man up because we have plans tonight...so hopefully the meds kick in quick.

In other news...(and I am totally blaming Chanon)we booked that 3 day cruise on the Magic that she was talking about....and...it's only Bill & I! We will spend 2 days at Boardwalk...3 days on the cruise...and then 4 days at OKW (although we are wait listed at BW & BC.) I think Bill is more excited than I am.

GOOD LUCK tomorrow Amy!!!!

Thanks for the good wishes! Hope you're feeling better soon, and congratulations on booking another trip!

And last, but certainly not least...
Good luck tomorrow Amy! I hope that all goes as scheduled and that Noah comes quickly, safely and as painlessly as possible. Can't wait to meet him! (Love the pics, btw.)

Thank you Tia! Those are some very good adverbs! :goodvibes

Try to find some down time for yourself and have fun at the festival!

Amy - Love Matty's pictures (and the new one in your sig). I'll be thinking about you tomorrow and keeping you in my prayers for a safe delivery and recovery! Can't wait to see Noah!

I've got 3 batches of brownies baked and in the freezer (I'll frost and decorate them tomorrow), jello parfaits are setting up in the fridge. Katie will make cupcakes this afternoon (part of her math homework: fractions!), and I think we can do the rest tomorrow. I will make some deviled eggs with Jacob (his favorite thing to make), ranch potato salad, fruit salad and watermelon pops for the all the kiddies. Should be a great party.

Thanks Glynis! Sounds like you have your menu in check! Hope you have a great party!

Sorry I have been MIA again.

I could use some extra prayers and pixie dust if you have any to spare. I know that the DDA is a powerful group, and I could use all the extra power that I can get.

Mom was admitted into the hospital last week because she fell. She also went into one of her episodes that she couldn't remember anything or anyone. We all thought that maybe she had a mini stroke. She was getting better and was due to be released on Monday morning. Around noon on Monday she took a turn for the worse, and isn't responding to anything. The doctors really don't know what is the problem. She is having another test run today. They think she might be having seizures, but are not sure. She sure doesn't look good. My brothers and I don't really want to remember mom this way.
Normally she perks back up within 24 hours or so, but she has shown no improvement. Actually she is falling deeper and deeper into a coma like state.
Sorry for the downer post. But I really need all the help I can get right now.

I'm so sorry Tom. Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers. :wizard:

Stratford-Upon-Avon:

We woke up kind of early this morning, as we have to catch the train to Stratford at 10:00. That means we need to be to Paddington Station by 10:00. We pre-purchased the tickets, so we didn't need to buy them this morning. We got up, showered, got the girls up, ate breakfast, and then went with Adam to the train station. This was the only morning that I really suffered with morning sickness, so I bought a diet Coke at the station, and was fine. I was concerned about Katie getting sick on the train, so I made sure I had an airsick bag at the ready, and I smuggled a Dramamine into her yogurt at breakfast. I was hopeful it would do the trick (I was right!)

We got on the train and found some seats. I made sure that Katie was not sitting backwards, and we settled in for our 2 hour ride. The train was fabulous! So smooth and comfortable. The British countryside was gorgeous! We had had a rainy day yesterday, but today the sun was shining, and it was perfect! The 2 hours went by quickly! We haven't had much of a chance to visit with Adam, and it was fun to get to know him again.

Marina and Katie on the train.

Dorcas spent most of the trip reading the guide book that Shelley loaned us, and by the time we arrived, she had a game plan. We got off the train, and followed the signs to the center of town. Such a beautiful little village. Katie fell in love with it, and decided she wants to live there some day! As we got to the center of town, we saw the beautiful clock tower.

DSCN2925.jpg

As we got closer, we saw a small door in the side. We thought it would be cute to have Katie posing, knocking at the door. She was not too thrilled at being the only one small enough to do this.

DSCN2926.jpg

From here, we kind of wandered aimlessly for a while, as the map was a bit confusing and we weren't exactly sure where Shakespeare's birthplace was. It didn't take us too long to find it, though. We purchased "combo" tickets that would let us into all 5 of the houses in the Shakespeare trust, even though we knew that we wouldn't make it to all of them before 5:00 p.m. By now it was almost noon, and we were on foot. Still, even if we only made it to 2 houses, the combo ticket paid for itself. Unfortunately, we weren't allowed to take any pictures of the inside of these houses, but we could of the exteriors. So, here we have Shakespeare's Birthplace.

DSCN2928.jpg

DSCN2935.jpg

The girls pose on a bench as we wait to enter the Birthplace.

DSCN2932.jpg

Katie outside the Birthplace

This was an incredible tour. They had costumed actors wandering the grounds reciting scenes from some of the plays, which helped pass the time as we waited to go in. They only let about 12 people in at a time, since they were getting so much damage from crowds. Anyway, it was great to see house again. The girls enjoyed seeing how it would have been to cook over an open fireplace, and John Shakespeare's workshop. Upstairs, in the actual room where he was born, they have guest books from when the house first opened as a tourist site. People like Charles Dickens and several US presidents have signed. Very cool.

Once outside again, we headed for the next place (relatively close) which is Nash's house and the site of New Place. Nash was married to Shakespeare's granddaughter, and they lived next door to New Place, which was the house Shakespeare bought in Stratford towards the end of his career as a playwright, and where he retired. After he died, his wife, Anne Hathaway lived there.

DSCN2943.jpg

Nash's House

Nash's house has been restored with several pieces of period furniture in the main floor. Upstairs they have turned it into a Shakespeare museum. There are copies of play books, places for children to draw and color, a trivia area where you can see what you know about the plays, etc. Very neat! We were the only ones in the house, and so we got a lot of personal attention from the docent there. He was a darling man, who told us the story of New Place. I hadn't heard it before, so it was neat to hear it.

New Place stayed in the Shakespeare Family until the death of Shakespeare's granddaughter. She was the end of his direct line. The house passed into several different hands over the next 100 years, and in the mid-1700's was purchased by a clergyman from the north of England. He lived there part of each year, but kept servants there year round. The problem came when it was tax time. He refused to pay taxes for the entire year, claiming that he didn't live there year round. For many years, he disputed with the mayor of Stratford about this. Finally, the courts ruled that since he had servants living there year round, he had to pay the full tax on the property. Basically, he said "screw that!" and had the house torn down. The people of Stratford were so incensed by this, that they literally ran him out of town on a rail.

The gardens and the site are still there and you can wander there and take as many pictures as you want. Here are some of my favorites:

DSCN2944.jpg

DSCN2945.jpg

The well at New Place

DSCN2946.jpg

Part of the original foundation of New Place

Right across the street from New Place is a hotel. This hotel has been in existence since the time of Shakespeare. It's been extensively remodeled and enlarged, but one section is exactly as it was in the 1600's. When I was in college we got to stay in that section. I was excited to see it's still there.

DSCN2940.jpg

The Tudor looking portion is the original part of the inn, the Falcon. Next to it is the newer portion.

At this point, I pulled the pregnancy card, and told everyone I had to stop to sit down and have some lunch! I was HUNGRY! We wandered a couple of blocks and found a small store that also sold sandwiches. We walked in and found the price was right! Katie saw a small pie that reminded her of the Cornish pasty of yesterday, and decided that was what she wanted. So, she got that (a pork pie), and I got a coleslaw and cheese sandwich with a diet Coke. Katie also got a box of orange juice.

DSCN2955.jpg

One bite into the pork pie, and Katie was disappointed. It was nothing like a Cornish pasty. It was a large piece of pork wrapped in pastry. Cooked, then cooled and sold cold. I told her she didn't need to eat the whole thing, and gave her half of my sandwich. Mine was really good. Coleslaw with raisins mixed with white cheddar cheese and spread on bread. Simple but delicious. It really hit the spot!

Stay tuned for the rest of the day!

Tom prayers for your mother & your family. I do hope she comes out of this soon

Marci hope you all have a great weekend!

Glynis I am enjoying your TR & pictures, but where are the pictures of you? :teeth:

Well my x-rays all came back fine(which is good)& I am to finish my meds & call them Monday to let them know how I am doing. I do feel a little better today, I think all that sleep helped. The pain is now in my lower back.

My manager left town for the holiday & will not be back till Wednesday, so I have to work. At least I am in the office & do not have to deal with customers.

Oh I forgot to mention I received our ME tags today, Thanks Chanon :cool1: Now the trip seems real & this tells me I need to start putting things away that we will need for the trip. Our weather has been so nice, I have not even used our A/C yet. So I am going to melt when I get to Florida :upsidedow

LOVE getting the ME tags--really makes the trip seem closer!!

Who do you think is taking all the pictures??? Actually, I have a tendency to stay away from pictures. Carryover from my overweight days. My sister and niece say they got some pictures of me. Once I get them, I'll show them to you.....maybe.

no maybe about it lady ;)
LOVING the report so far!

I thought it was you! And you guys are close in the answer! Our office reached all our goals for Disney last year - which means we sold more Disney tickets, DCL, WDW or DL than the year before. No one could figure out the DL part - and I thought it was Elin! :teeth:
The office received a beautiful Don Williams print of Pinocchio and Geppetto in his workshop with toys all around - except the toys are Cinderella's castle, Sleeping Beauty's castle, and a DCL cruise ship. There is also a German type clock on the wall (with the pine cone cords) but the face is the Dreams logo. I'm taking my camera to work today to grab some pics of it!

Thanks for booking!!!

That is so exciting!! I can't wait to see the pictures. :goodvibes

(I totally want to take it home and hide it from everyone!!! But I can't! :teeth: )

You might be able to take a fine picture of it and frame the picture. I bet there are ways to turn the print so the overhead fluorescent lights don't glare on it. I have done that before.

Congrats! Have fun on the 3 day. I am thinking that I want to go to VA and see the Magic in Dry dock in September. Then again at the cost of gas maybe not.

It's dry docking in VA????

Oh, no, Tom. All the spare PD I have is headed toward Ohio. I hope your Mom starts to respond soon.

Once we finished lunch we reviewed our options. We could stay in town and tour Hall's Croft (the house where Shakespeare's daughter, Susannah lived with her husband), or we could walk the 2 mile walk to Shottery to see Anne Hathaway's cottage. We knew there was no way we could make it to Mary Arden's farm, so we didn't even put that into the equation. We all voted on the walk to Anne Hathaway's cottage.

It was a beautiful day, and we were all in good spirits! The walk to the cottage is completely paved with signs pointing the way, and so off we went! In some places, the path is very narrow, and you can only walk one at a time. I went last, with Katie right in front of me. She was stretching out her arms, running her fingers along the wooden fences. I said, "Be careful, you don't want to get a splinter." She threw me "the look" and said, "I won't, mom." She dropped her arms and brushed her right arm into some weeds which turned out to be stinging nettle! Instantly her forearm blistered from the wrist to the elbow. She was so brave, though! She didn't want anyone else to know, so she kept quiet and just clutched her arm to her side. We had purchased a bottle of water, and she held that against the blisters as we walked.

Finally, we came to the cottage.

DSCN2971.jpg

We wandered through the grounds which were gorgeous! The trust has planted a maze a few years ago, and in another 5 or 6 years, it will be a great place to be! There's also a garden where every plant or tree mentioned in Shakespeare's plays has been planted.

DSCN2986.jpg

The girls posing in a willow "cabin" like Shakespeare mentions in "Twelfth Night."

DSCN2982.jpg

They still thatch the roof of the cottage, and have an exhibit set up showing how it is done. Surprisingly, it's very similar today as it was hundreds of years ago. It is incredibly expensive, though. Thatching a roof today would cost upwards of 10,000 dollars American. We went through the cottage, and again had a very conversational docent. It was interesting to learn that this cottage has been in the Hathaway family up until the early 1950's when the family sold it to the Shakespeare trust. So, most of the furnishings are original to the house. Including a canopy bed said to be Anne's. Tourists during the 1800's were told about a "courting bench" that Will was said to sit on with Anne while they were courting. The owner, who consented to give tours, would allow tourists to carve pieces of the bench off the legs as a souvenir. However, after the Trust purchased the house, they dated the bench at 1750. There's no way Shakespeare ever sat on the bench, but what an enterprising owner, huh?

We spent a bit of time (and a lot of money) in the gift shop. Katie and I went to the bathroom so she could wash her arm and see if that helped. Nope! She was still in pain, but determined not to show it. She was doing so well, no one even noticed anything was wrong.

As we began our walk back to Stratford, we crossed a small river and found a family of ducks, just resting on the bank.

DSCN2993.jpg

We watched them until they all went into the water. It was so cute! We waited on a bridge that we decided would be perfect for a game of Pooh sticks. Unfortunately, we couldn't find any sticks, so we pressed on towards Stratford. The walk back seemed to take less time. As we entered Stratford, we realized that it was after 5:00 so we wouldn't be able to see more than the outside of Hall's Croft.

DSCN2996.jpg

This was where Susannah lived with her husband John. It is a really large house. He was a doctor, and well respected in the community. After Shakespeare died, Susannah and John moved into New Place with Anne, but kept their own home for John's practice.

Since it wasn't yet 6:00, we decided to see if we could get into Trinity church. Luckily, the church is just across the street from Hall's Croft.

DSCN3005.jpg

DSCN3003.jpg

Part of the cemetery. It's so old, and creepy! Very cool!

We were in luck! Trinity was still open, and so we went in. We paid our fee, and were told we could take as many pictures as we wanted! Hooray!!!
So, here you go:

While we were looking around, the docent informed us that he was going to lock up, but we should feel free to look around. He would let us out when we were ready. It was really cool to be there!

Once we were done, we wandered along the Avon river toward the theater complex. We had some fun watching the swans, and the rowers on the river.

DSCN3043.jpg

Main theater of the RSC. I wish we could have seen a show here, but it was not to be!

We still had a couple of hours before our train ride back to London, so we decided dinner was in order. As we walked along, we could smell fish and chips. They smelled heavenly, but we couldn't find anywhere that sold them! Finally, we stopped some people who were carrying fish and chips in take away, and they gave us directions. We got to the place, and it was a tiny little hole in the wall restaurant. There was a window for take away, or you could go in and sit at tables. In we went! We all ordered fish and chips and sat down to eat.

DSCN3046.jpg

This was huge but incredibly delicious! Katie and I split a dinner and we couldn't finish!!! At first Katie wanted tartar sauce, but I told her that when you are in England, you eat like the English. We smothered the fish and chips in malt vinegar, and the girl was in heaven! She even said it was better than the Cornish pasty! We ate slowly and people watched until it was time to head back to the train station.

We were early for the train, so the girls spent some time writing post cards and just looking through the photos we had taken today. The train came, and off we went. The 2 hours zipped by, and we were back in London by 10:00 p.m.

It was a fabulous day! I put some cream on Katie's arm, and off we went to bed.

I met up with Elin for a short time this morning. We met up at a Panera right off the highway. It was a nice morning and we sat outside and had a nice visit. Elin-thanks for the ice tea! I meant to give you some $$$ but then we got chatting. I got to work early so now I get to go home early. We don't have any plans for the weekend other than my plans for sewing and I really want to purchase a new matress.

We did have fun! And the traffic was not really bad at all except around the Sagamore bridge. I am glad we got together and you are quite welcome for the tea. :)

I was going to post pictures to go along with this but my brother just called and we are going to meet them in the North End for dinner so you all will have to wait for those! :rotfl:

We stopped at Plymouth to see the Rock. I had been there as a child and was excited to show it to my family. Unfortunately it is in a portico that is under renovation and seeing it was not so easy. A very nice workman took my camera over the chain link fence and took two pictures of it for me. :goodvibes

We were not enamored with the Cape, unfortunately. I am sure that if we had a little more time to explore a little further afield we might be able to find some spots we liked, but the consensus of the 5 people in our car was... eh. We got to see Sandy Neck Beach which is a huge misnomer. It was the rockiest beach I have ever seen! And we had lunch at a little place on the water in Barnstable.

Well we got a date set for Aidan and his next Cochlear Surgery. He will be operated on the 17th of July with a quick recovery hopefully. We then travel down to Galveston the following week for Mya's procedure. What an event filled month it will be for us.

All the time daddy is suppose to be looking for employment. :confused3

Fun times!
