Does it annoy anyone else when a parent picks up their kid after a sleepover and leaves without reminding the kid to say thank you? Or am I being overly particular about it?

nope... I would expect a "thank-you" also. I have many students who actually come up to thank me following every single lesson. I feel that those are the children who are being raised correctly!

Good morning. We had a storm roll through here about 8:45pm last night which knocked out our power. It came on around 2am this morning. We were watching a movie in the living room, my niece spent the night so the girls were camped out on the floor. Emma and Molly freaked out through the entire storm which lasted a good hour or so.

Not a whole lot on tap for today. Eric has been laying new deck boards on our deck. I really wish that it wasn't so hot out but it has to get done this weekend. Lucy's birthday party is on the 28th and next weekend we have plans and the following weekend we are out of town. He has been doing 2-4 boards at a time and then coming in for a break.

My MIL is coming over this afternoon to watch the Germany/Poland soccer game. Should be fun;)

I need to get the upstairs tidied up, it's driving me bonkers that it is such a mess.

Janet- I am sorry to hear about Garrett's friend's father. :wizard:

Elizabeth- Sending you more 's and :wizard: Please try not to worry so much, which I know is easier said than done.

Elin- Glad you enjoyed your movie!

Tammi- I agree with you on the thank you. Emma usually remembers on her own, Mo not so much!

Deb- I hope the fishing derby is successful and fun.

For those I missed- :wizard: and 's

How many of your teachers gifts for the end of the year?
We have a collection in September that goes for the teacher's holiday & end of year gift. They end up with a nice amount for a Visa gift card. If the teacher was very good I am sure a Thank you note would make them smile.

If it is any indication, I received fewer end-of-the-year gifts the past two weeks. We have talked about this before... I never expect any but always receive many. Christmas there were a lot, this recital season about half what I have received in the past.

Either I am becoming a lousy teacher, or people are listening to me when I say I don't want anything or they are cutting back.
Well I am sure it is not the former!!! :goodvibes I do think people are cutting back due to the economy.

It also must mean that your wrist is feeling somewhat better! :thumbsup2

Kristin and her friend and I had a similar conversation yesterday at breakfast. Kristin looked at me and said, "Mama... I am worried about you driving back to Fredericksburg alone." When I asked why in the heck she should be worried she said, "You were singing along with the music on the way down and you don't know the words. The only time you do that is when you are tired... and you never shut up the whole way down here either; a sure sign you are tired." :rotfl2: She made me promise to cal her when I got home.
She's so sweet to her mamma!!:)

I stopped getting season passes for King's Dominion because it certainly has gone downhill the last few years. I am soooo spoiled by Disney.
Same here, we have 6 flags in NJ which you could not pay me to go to.:crazy2: There is also a local amusement park nearby (kids have their birthday parties there) but we do not go there either unless its for a party. Disney does spoil us for anything else. Even with local fireworks shows..we are all like "these are lame, we will wait to see the real fireworks at Disney".:lmao:

I just received a very sad phone call from one of Garrett's friends. Remember the boy who broke our front window last year? His father died this morning of a heart attack. I feel so sad for Jacob :sad1:
I am so sorry, thats terrible.

Theresa - I meant to tell you that the National Federation of Music Clubs is headed your direction this August. Our Fall Session will be held in Denver at the Renaissance Hotel from August 5-10. Unfortunately I won't be attending since I will be in Atlanta a portion of that week for teacher training for a new Yamaha course.

The BIG news is that the 2009 Convention will be held in .....................................................................................
ORLANDO! June 1-9 are the tentative dates, and I have to look up the hotel that will be the location. So, I do believe that I will be in Orlando next summer. :)
Awesome!!!

Does it annoy anyone else when a parent picks up their kid after a sleepover and leaves without reminding the kid to say thank you? Or am I being overly particular about it?
YES!!!!!!!!!!

Good morning!!!!

It's 90 degrees & it's only 10am!!!

I am not in the mood to deal with the crowds at the beach and I do have to get the girls room back together so they can sleep in their own rooms again. They have all been sleeping in the playroom & love it since there is a tv in there. It's like a big sleepover every night so I am not sure they want to go back to their rooms.:rotfl2: So anyway, we will keep the ac on & put their room back together.

Dana's back with bagels,:yay: talk to you later!!!

RANT ADVISORY... RANT ADVISORY... RANT ADVISORY... RANT ADVISORY...
Our lawn needs to be mowed. Grocery shopping needs to be done. Laundry is waiting in piles. The kitchen and bathrooms need to be cleaned.

I have not been here for the past 4 days, therefore nothing got done. My family did nothing (including cooking anything to eat) while I was at the Convention. I am literally the only one in the family who sees a need to do these things it seems. Living in a pigsty apparently does not bother them. Having the outside of the house look like misfits live here doesn't concern them.

My first day of summer vacation I took the time to take Kristin shopping for things she needed and on my day off yesterday I offered to drive her part way to Richmond to meet her friend so that she would not spend so much money on gas. I figured my DD had done some things before she left, but... no. The dishwasher is still full of the clean dishes that I loaded into it last weekend! And the dirty dishes are piled up on the counter and the stovetop. Bob is a beer drinker and the cans are stacked on the counter BESIDE THE TRASH CAN! It is an empty trash can because I took the trash out yesterday morning before I left for Richmond.

I am the only one who has done the lawn this entire season so far. I had the mowers repaired and have been the one doing the mowing. I actually paid our next door neighbor to do it one week because I was too busy to get it done. I said something to Bob last night about the fact that the lawn looked horrible and his response was that he might get it done today but he figured it would be too hot. We have a riding lawn mower, for goodness' sake!

I wonder how long I can ignore the mess and get some relaxation in? I went to the movies last night to escape for a while, but it isn't going to last long, I fear. :furious:

One of my students is giving her Senior Recital this afternoon so I can get out of the house once again without blowing my top. I want them both here when I do...

Sounds like my house. Bob will leave glasses NEXT to the sink. Laundry get's done, but then tossed into a basket - not folded. He doesn't cook. AT ALL. (I think that's my biggest pet peeve - he'd rather go to Mc'D's than attempt to cook a grilled cheese sandwich for dinner.) Though if you guys were in Ohio and didn't mow your grass...you might be in trouble! :rotfl: http://www.newsnet5.com/news/16472077/detail.html You'd be fined!

It was mowed last Monday. But we have had so much rain and hot weather than it needs it again... badly in my opinion. I just don't think I should have to do it!

ETA: Guess who would have to pay the fine????? Not Bob is a hint.

So sad..ill keep that family in my prayers
Jen - So when are you going back to Alaska? :hyper:
As soon as possible! I loved every minute of it!

Does it annoy anyone else when a parent picks up their kid after a sleepover and leaves without reminding the kid to say thank you? Or am I being overly particular about it?
I dont have kids, but it would drive me nuts--I was always reminded to say thank you--it drives me nuts with some fo the kids in my class that have seemed to forgotten manners

!
I live less than a half hour from that 6 flags--and dont know the last time i have been there..i know ill be there in august, but thats because a friend is coming to town and he wants to go

RANT ADVISORY... RANT ADVISORY... RANT ADVISORY... RANT ADVISORY...

Sorry Elin..It would drive me nuts too...If mom is out of town, i am the ONLY one that does stuff and i hate it!

Elin -
DH cooks and takes care of the dishes, but he never wipes off the stove or the counters. DS will empty the trash and put a new bag in, but because we have weird pick-up rules for trash there isn't anywhere for him to go with the full bag!
My family has no problem with living in squalor. Really. Once in awhile I throw a big fit and things get picked up to some extent, but it never lasts. I would LOVE to have a cleaning service but I can't justify the expense.
I am the only one who ever vacuums, dusts, etc. If DH does laundry he leaves it in the dryer or piles it on top of the dryer. And he only washes towels and his OWN clothes, usually clothes he needs for work. :headache: DH did scrub our bathtub last weekend, but he didn't clean anything else in the bathroom! He changes the cat box and the water in the fish bowl, but I have to nag him to do the fish bowl. :rolleyes1

Anne Marie - Good luck finishing up the girls' room!

Since DH got home so early we decided to go to Dunkin' Donuts. It was calling to me. :rolleyes1

Robyn - I hope Eric is able to make some progress on the deck!

One of the ladies on the breast cancer thread says that all the worry in the world will not change the outcome. Of course she is right. I can worry myself into a knot and the outcome of Mom's surgery will still be the same as if I hadn't worried a bit. I guess I just hate the thought of going into a situation and saying "Oh, I never thought that might happen." For some reason I think I will be better equipped to deal with things if I have already anticipated every possible scenario, starting with the most catastrophic.

Good morning. :)

I was having an awful dream when my alarm went off. We had missed our flights to Florida! Of course, been there done that. :rolleyes2

I woke up from a HORRID dream this morning....must have been the night for bad dreams. Yours would have been a lovely one compared to mine. I dreamt that Cassidy had died in the night.:worried:

I just received a very sad phone call from one of Garrett's friends. Remember the boy who broke our front window last year? His father died this morning of a heart attack. I feel so sad for Jacob :sad1:

how sad...Prayers for Jacob's family:hug:

I KNOW it's the last two and definitely not the first!!

I wouldn't want to be in Colorado this August/September if I didn't have to be....the DNC convention is here......way too many extra people!!!:faint:

Love next year's venue:thumbsup2

my children know to say it or they get heck to pay....but Abi has one best friend where I know her mom just doesn't know how to say thank you so I take the fact the child doesn't want to leave my house as my thank you:thumbsup2

other than my children are younger I am so there with you!! The only reason we got the passes yesterday is the girls got the front rooms presentable...not clean to my standard but dad's....I am holding out hope that it will be clean to my standards by the end of the week:lmao:

with that I will end my P2 and head off to church....and grocery shopping. :faint:

 I so feel your pain on this one. Things are better now than they have been in the past. The most upset I have ever gotten with them about this is when my mother was dying. I naturally spent the week with her, and after she passed I came home to a total disaster, so nasty that the dirty dishes had insects in them! You can imagine how this upset me on top of all that I was already going through. DH has improved greatly over the past couple of years, I think it may have something to do with all my health problems. I did just mow the yard this morning though, but since he is working seven days this week he is forgiven. DD will clean the kitchen for me quite often, but she never seems to get it quite right, I don't fuss though, I would rather finish up what she left than do the whole thing.

Anne Marie - Good luck finishing up the girls' room!

She's exactly right, but I have never learned how not to worry

Thanks for commiserating with me, everyone. It does help! :goodvibes

I said something like, "It is only 84 degrees outside; I thought it was going to get hotter much more quickly today. I think I will put in a little time outside." With that Bob went outside and started the riding lawn mower! I started the push mower and did the front lawn and around the shrubs and perimeter of the house and he did the rest. And I didn't nag. :faint:

When we came in he said, "When Kristin gets home the three of us need to pitch in and get this house in order."

I wonder if he read my post!
