Elin, Terry, & Vicki enjoy your weekend!

Tom :rotfl: Hope Leighanna has learned not to use that gesture anymore.

Well I have things taken care of at the bank. I did not have to file a police report because they know I am here & not in MS. Whoever got my card was charging with it last night. The 1st one went through for almost $400, the 2cd time they tried to use it, the bank blocked my card. I have filled out all the paperwork & hopefully my account will be credited within 48 hours(this is what I was told anyway). I feel just as violated now as when our home was broke into. I do not know how they got my card number & I will never know. At least I know they can not use it anymore & if they try it should come up saying "STOLEN!".

So now I am going back to paying my bills the old way. I will write checks & send them in the mail. I just need to make sure I get paper bills from everyone. What a pain, but thank goodness the bank was on their toes or it could have been much worse.

Well the guys are here to haul our tree away, guess I better make sure they get it all.

I am glad it was relatively hassle free:hug:

Vicki - have fun this weekend. How is Chuck's dad doing?

so ends my posting party...

the local station screwed up this morning...they were supposed to announce the girls birthday and my day went downhill from there...Until my girl got home from school and then the other came home long enough to change and then we went to a birthday dinner...where it went downhill again. Then the final concert of this go round:cool1: and saying good bye to my mom. Since she was part of the downhill spiral this morning I was actually a bit relieved to see her go and I feel a little bad for it but not to much.

Cassidy then came home and did homework...I think I finally figured out one bonus point for having a birthday in July....no homework, school, concerts to have to do/go to. :lmao:

Our DDA family has brightened my life immensely the last few weeks and I appreciate you all.

Jennifer-how does Olivia feel??
Sorry your day went downhill. SHe is feeling better today. no more c/o ear pain, but still coughing.

Jennifer, many of the slings/wraps are really just intended for infants, and I think it would be uncomfortable at best, and maybe even unsafe to have a child in them that would be holding herself up so well, so much bigger, etc. Most of them are advertised for up to 16-20 pounds. The soft carriers (like the Baby Bjorn original carriers) are sometimes advertised for up to 2-3 years or 25 pounds (depending on the brand... be sure to look, some only say up to a year and 20lbs still). Even then, I would try and find someone that owns one and try it with Virginia. She might do ok forward facing but depending on her shape it could be uncomfortable for her at the legs.

The backpack carriers (with a rigid frame) are definitely ok for older infants through toddlers, but I don't know how you feel about having her on your back vs front at that age, and what she could see, etc.

I don't think I've helped any :rotfl: but I just wanted to suggest that you really try to give on a "test ride" (either now and/or as your trip gets closer) since she will be pretty big. You are right in that sometimes older children use them with no problem, but my experience with other children has been that they are more of a hassle than a help once a child gets past a certain point.

Good luck! :goodvibes
Thanks for the thoughts

Yeah, the slings and a lot of the more "organic" style carriers can be used for years. I still carried Terra with hers when she was 3yo. At that age we mainly used it when she'd fall asleep leaving the parks or was napping and I wanted to see a show. It made my hands free for getting on the bus with bag, stroller, etc. Plus, it gave a little extra support for her weight than just my arms and hip. I'd definitely go for one that's better that way. The sling might be one of your best choices. Look into a Mai Tei (sp?) as well. You can put her on your back pretty easily with those and at older ages, that might be nice.

ETA: See if you can google "baby wearing" and your area. There are people who do "seminars" about carriers. It's nothing really formal, but they tend to have lots of types of carriers with them and will help you try them out with Virginia. It would give you a chance to see what was comfortable and what she does well with before you buy.

Speaking of which, I have got to find my hip carrier. Baby Girl is a snuggle baby anyway and it would be very helpful when trying to help Terra and Cinderella with their crafts at library storytime, etc. Plus, she's just way too heavy to carry around in the carseat carrier.
Thanks for the tips
Not to metion the back pain of having an extra 20lbs or so compressing your spine. That is one reason I never used a carrier. I have back pain from bad posture to begin with.
that is what I am worried about either way.
Jennifer -- you've gotten some good advice. If you are only using it for WDW, I would ask around and see if you can borrow one. I'd hate for you to buy one and then not use it. That would be more money for Disney. Keep in mind that slings and packs get quite warm, and Sept. will still be hot and muggy.
I don't know any one around here that has one I could borrow.
O' man I almost forgot.

Happy Belated Birthday Tia
:dancer: Happy Birthday Miles!!:dancer:
Happy Birthday Miles

Vicki - have fun this weekend. How is Chuck's dad doing?

Not sure really. Chuck says he sounded better when he talked to him on Tuesday. The girls went over this morning to spend a few hours with them since they can't stay the week-end. It is about a 1-1/2 hour drive. Chuck and I will be leaving if I ever get packed.

Tom,

:goodvibes to you. I think at some point all of us have been "gobsmacked" like that by our kids for some reason or another.

When Daniel was 3 he heard the "F" word at preschool from another kid (our neighbor). He used this word many many times for about 3 months. We let it stop on it's own but Dana & I were

DS was reading some graffiti at the park one day. Out loud. REALLY loud. He also suggested that a classmate in first grade add a piece to his drawing to make it more anatomically correct. He called one of my friends "an uncultured swine" because that's what Potato Head calls Ham in Toy Story - he didn't know what it meant.
Brother picked up the "f" word from his parents. He was sitting in the cart at Target one day and started saying it over and over, at increasing volume. I finally couldn't ignore it anymore and told him to stop. I said it in a tone so he knew I wasn't joking. :rolleyes1

Vicki-hope you have a grand time!!

Ditto!

Janet - I hope you can get things back to "normal" soon! :wizard:

Janet-glad you've gotten the debit card straightened out. What a pain. Did you use it on your trip?

Robyn-Pooor Emma/Poor Mom!

Elin-glad things are going well for Buttons and that she is in good hands!:wizard:

Terry-poor Hal! Hope you guy's have a great weekend!

Stephie-I have a Sony H5 which isn't made anymore. I don't think the replacement is as good. It is a high end point & shoot. Someday I'll upgrade to a dSLR but I don't think I can handle that with the kids yet. I recommended Canon's high end point & shoot to my sister for her DD and they are very happy with it.

Bernadette - your photos are great! I'm so envious of the steady hand that you have. Did you notice the hidden Mickey in your iced tea?
Thanks! I didn't notice Mickey til you pointed him out-how cool! I'll have to go add a comment to that picture. Keeping your elbows close to your body helps with the steady shot. I would say its just the camera but my DH's shots don't look like that.;)

:scared1: OMG. That would make me feel so violated. I hope it can be settled quickly  My boss recently had someone swipe (we don't know where from) his deceased wife's credit card. They got hold of the actual card which he hadn't taken her name off of. They had spent thousands. He is working with the credit card company to resolve it. The worst part is that the kept asking him if he was SURE that she wasn't using it. He finally said "yes, I'm sure as she is DEAD!" I'm sure the credit card rep was embarassed and he was deeply saddened. There seems to be more and more of it going around. I've heard of it happening to people at WDW. I think we'll be using our room charge more this trip and have that paid with our VISA card. I still want the points, but not the risk of identity theft.
The poor guy!

Bernadette, your photos are fantastic!

And you are right, the lighting in the Cali Grill is EXCELLENT! Such great close ups of Emma! Beautiful photos!
Thanks!

Because Bernadette is an enabler. Between her trip with Joe and then her trip with Emma, I was thinking how nice it would be to do a mother/son or mother/daughter trip. Airtran has $59 1-way tickets, but I missed the deadline for the $25 off. How cheap would that have been! So I was playing with numbers for either Sept or Oct.
Cool! I wouldn't give up the family trips if that was all I could do as I think it is important for my children to have shared memories but these one on one trips are very special. My kids take getting left behind very well as they know they will have their turn. I leave the kids I don't take something when I go-usually a movie (to keep them occupied for at least 2 hours while I'm gone) and something else. This last trip I left Joe a set of flash cards on the states and Lizzy an American Girl Doll book. They had those same flash cards at the KidKot station in America in Epcot. Then I bring them home something-Joe wanted a Safari Mickey and Lizzy wanted a Pooh necklace.

Joe wasn't very well behaved last August-he was so bad (whiny) that I seriously wanted to go home but he was SO good in January. I'm really glad I had that very special trip with him. He promised me that he would be good this August because we did everything he wanted in January. We'll see how that goes. He's fine if anyone else is around and with Dorinda coming for the week in the middle of our trip and meeting up with DDA friends I really do think he'll be good.

So niether Lizzy nor Joe complained that Emma was getting her special trip as they knew it was her turn but on Mother's Day we stopped at McDonalds on the way home and Emma told Lizzy that she got the toy at the airport that Lizzy had just gotten. Lizzy was upset that Emma got to go to McDonalds.:rotfl:

Well, I took Leighanna to school this morning, along with all of her crayon rolls. The kids were excited.:cool1:

The teacher also pulled me off to the side to ask me if Leighanna had mentioned what happened with her yesterday.

I told her no, and she began to tell me that Leighanna had given the finger to someone in her class!:scared1:
1.gif

I told her that I didn't even think that she knew what that was! She said that she might have seen another child doing it and she just followed suit.:sad2:

Her teacher told me that she sat down and talked with her and told her that it was a very inappropriate thing to do, and that a beautiful girl like her shouldn't be "gesturing" that way!

Hopefully Leighanna's embarassment of this situation corrected itself immediately!

And no... I am not going to find the "famous smiley" that Elin used one morning to demonstrate Leighanna's use of one of her digits yesterday!;)
I'm sure they kids loved their crayon rolls!

There has been LOTS of talk about that gesture in our house-must be in the air.

Bernadette you are an enabler! I was just thinking the same thing about a Father/Daughter trip!

DW has such a hard time getting any time off, that it seems impossible to be able to go this year!

Pop looks like a fun place to stay too!

Now if I could find some decent airfare prices, I *might* just consider it!
Cool!!! Pop is really fun!!!

Bernadette,

I think you have us all thinking now!!!:rotfl:
3 more trips for you!:thumbsup2

I saw those on the Disboutiquers thread and was thinking I'd make a couple of sets for colored pencils for our trip. No crayons in the summer heat!
You might want to consider the Crayola Twistables Colored Pencils then you don't have to worry about a sharpener. I had those for Emma to use with the coloring pages I made on 4x6 index cards. The colored pencils were fine enough to make coloring easy on the small pictures. I had the cards in a coupon sorter with post cards and CM thank you cards. They worked really well for meal time entertainment. The kids usually get an activity sheet as thier menu but often only get 1 crayon and the activities are often too hard for Emma.

I got home last night about 11:30 my time. Was back up for work for a 7:30 phone call I lead. We are camping over near my in-laws this week-end to spend time with Chuck's parents. I don't know if we'll have internet access (probably not) but we are staying at a fancy campground. We usually like the state parks which have the basics. I should be back briefly on Sunday. I'm heading back to Lansing on Monday.
Have fun camping!

Hurray for 32 weeks!!!!

I'm on my way out the door to take Laura to the oral surgeon.

The cupcakes were ready for Miles' school this morning even though I realized at 10:30 last night that I didn't have any powdered sugar. Thank goodness his school doesn't start until 8:50 am!

I still have lots to do on my lists, but I am getting there.

Have a great day, DDA!!!

I hope Laura's procedure went smoothly! And I can't believe we're at 32 weeks, and still at home! I'm definitely having a lot of increased.... everything. But I'm still surprised we've made it this far! :goodvibes

I am so upset right now, I am shaking. Someone has gotten assess to my debit card & has been making charges from a Walmart in MS!I just talked to the bank & I am getting ready to head down there. I have no idea how this happened, my card is being locked so there will be no more charges.

This is not going to be a good day :sad2:

Oh no, I hate that! :( I hope it can get resolved quickly. That's such a terrible feeling, and such a pain! :(

Thanks, Jennifer. I hope you and the two peas in your pod are doing well today. :lovestruc

We're hanging in there. I took my few hours "up" today to run a couple of errands that I'm allowed doing.... and just that killed me. I told Kyle, I'm more sore (all over!) than I was after running the half. :sad2:

I think I'm going to be doing less and less the next couple of weeks! It's unreal how bad you can feel (and how quickly!) measuring 40+ weeks! :rotfl:

Because Bernadette is an enabler. Between her trip with Joe and then her trip with Emma, I was thinking how nice it would be to do a mother/son or mother/daughter trip. Airtran has $59 1-way tickets, but I missed the deadline for the $25 off. How cheap would that have been! So I was playing with numbers for either Sept or Oct.

Oooh, fun! But how would you decide who to take, when?

My sister, who was quite possibly the most naive and innocent child ever, did a similar thing. When she was about 4, she was great at reading by sounding things out. We pulled up to a stop sign and said, "Mommy, someone wrote f*ck on that stop sign!", just as plain as day. When my parents lovingly (and very appropriately!) told her that we shouldn't use that word, as it was "not nice that they wrote on the stop sign AND it's not a nice word", she cried for nearly 20 minutes! She was so devastated, and kept apologizing over and over! :lovestruc :rotfl:

Since everyone is telling their bad word stories I'll tattle on myself.

When I was 3 or 4, we were living on base housing in Japan. Well there were no kids even remotely my age to play with so the little (8 or 9) boy down the street was my best bet. Well....he enjoyed teaching me not so nice words and I would try them out in odd spots.

My mom says we were in the PX shopping one day and I piped up with "mommy your a mother f....er" "What??" "mommy your a mother f'er":scared1: My mom handled it very calmly (though I was a bit loud) and told me "Theresa you aren't to say that ever again" "Okay". And I didn't until she started telling that story when I was a teenager:rotfl: .

My friends in high school and college always got a face like this  if I said a "naughty" word. Kind of fun to tease them that way. :lmao:

Beth,
I like his name written on the strawberries, cute! Hope he enjoys his cake!

Janet,
So glad you got it taken care of. What a pain in the butt.

Vicki,
Safe travels!

We just got home from Daniel's school play about the Continenal Congress & the writing of the Declaration of Independence. Daniel was the "delegate from North Carolina".:)
