i had 5 interviews today for my night attendant and NO ONE showed. so if you could please send pd down my way that i find 2-3 great people soon that would help. i am very frustrated that noone stays longer than 3-6 months or they just take full advantage of me.

just got an email from one and they were at the hospital with their son so i will be giving them a second chance.

I have been up with my Sophie since 4am. She said she had to throw up & is running a fever. Shes so squishy when she sick. I feel bad for her.

Tammi - What a situation! My cousin keeps saying this is going to happen to her sister. My aunt (my mom's sister) has a DD with spina bifida and developmental delays. She is in her 40's, and my aunt is 67. My aunt hasn't made any arrangements for her, which will be a HUGE mess if something happens to my aunt.
Of course you know from Karen's posts what a nightmare it is to find reliable care. I know some of the agencies that place nannies will also place companions for elderly and disabled, so you might look there. With the nanny agencies, the employer sets the salary. The agency screens the candidates and makes sure they are interested before you interview them so you don't waste your time. I think part of the problem is the agencies that provide caregivers (where they are employees if the agency) don't pay very well so they don't always get the best quality of applicants. There would also have to be state programs she would qualify for.
My FIL lived in an adult foster home, but if you want to keep her in her own home that isn't going to work.

Ok, here is the clothes shopping story. My mother is always on my case about my clothes, hair and general appearance. She is always telling me that I am such a beautiful person that she wishes I would show it. If I am clean, my hair is brushed, and my clothes don't have holes, I figure I'm presentable. I don't curl (or blow dry for that matter) my hair and I wear no make-up. Mind you, my mother was just like me until about 8 years ago. She now makes an effort to curl her hair when she goes out and wear nice clothes.

Now my sister is just the opposite of me. When she was 9, she taught my best friend how to curl her hair with a curling iron. My best friend and I were 16. My sister would sit in front of the TV with the curling iron, curling her hair. I used to think it would fall out with as much as she combed, brushed and curled it. It was also the time frame where you kept a matching comb to your shirt in your back pocket. My sister must have had 30 combs so that she had enough colors. She always looks sharply dressed. Mind you, she is a bargain hunter. She doesn't usually buy things full price. She will shop at Goodwill and sales of other stores. She loves getting brand name clothes for good deals.

So whenever my sister and I spend time together near a store, my mother tries to get my sister to take me shopping. When I got my job 10 years ago, I gave my sister carte blanche to buy me a wardrobe. She did it all online and loved every minute of it. Mom told my sister to take me out and buy me two outfits with shoes. I told mom no way before leaving to help my sister pick up some Easter stuff. I told my sister in every store we went in, no way! Well, we get to Marshall's and she has to check out the deals for herself. Well, I see a pair of shorts that I love. I have to try them on. So my sister starts adding things to the cart for me to try on. We must have had 50 things in the cart for me to try on. I don't know how it went from me saying no way to trying on 50 things. It seems to happen in my sisters presence.

We get to the changing rooms and the attendant asks if this is like those makeover shows. I tell her yes, that is about what it is. My sister was in her element helping me pick out clothes. I told her no black because I don't think I look good in it. Well, I ended up with at least two new black tops and a black sweater. They look very sharp on me. I ended up with dress pants, khakis, shorts, dress shirts, casual shirts, and a sweater. Mom ended up paying for it all. I didn't mean for her to do that. I didn't end up with shoes yet. I told mom I would go shopping for them. So I'll have to follow up on that. I also told them I'll wear the trouser socks that are hiding in a corner of my drawer somewhere.

So that is the long story!

Now she has no one and has been staying with my parents since January, when her dad was hospitalized. Unfortunately her parents had not made any arrangements for her care upon their deaths. It is taking quite a toll on my mom and dad. My cousin, who is in CA, and I are the executors of their estates and her Trust, so it is now up to us to find care for her. She is not dependent, but can only stay alone for short periods of time, and not overnight. She more or less needs someone to 'watch' her and prepare her meals. Ideally we would like to find someone to stay in her home with her, but that is very risky, with what goes on in today's world. Second option is finding a facility that will take her. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions on where to start or have any of you had any experiences like this? My mom and dad have given me some places to start, and I will do that tomorrow.

Tammi -- I don't have any answers, but wanted to give you encouragement. You're taking your responsibilities seriously, and they are very significant. Sending PD for your parents until help is found, and sending lots of PD and prayers to you and your CA cousin for vision and clarity of decision.

Getting up early this morning was very hard! Not only because of the sinus infection, but also because I'm out of habit of getting up before 5 now. The antibiotics are beginning to work, so that's good. It will be an incredibly long day, though, so I'll be dragging by the time I get in tonight at 7 or so. Well, I best go -- I have a huge pile of things on my desk to go through before the first of my staff get in.

Tammi- I am sorry that you and your family have to deal with this. I know it is not easy, I hope that you can quickly come up with a solution for the family.

It sounds to me like if you can get someone there to stay with her, for now she should be OK. Also so she can get social time with others an Adult Day Care for special needs would be a good option. She could spend the day at the Adult Day Care, some of them provide transportation and then have someone come to stay with her in the evening and night. Instead of a full blown group home setting.

A Place like Supportive Concepts for Families that offers Adult Day Care, In Home care and Group Home care seems like it would be a good one stop type service, that way if things change and she can no longer stay living at home it would just be the transition to a group home or other living arrangement.

I know you have said your parents live in the Pittsburgh area, I found this which has a range of services or this one. I really have no clue if these offer services in the area you need.

Good luck to you as you determine what is best for the family. to help you get through it.

Now I am wide awake and need to head to bed. If I could only get my body to not always be on a wacky schedule I might get things accomplished. Night all!

I know that we have assisted living facilities around here. Lots of Senior citizens live there and someone checks in on them. I have also found our local seniour center to be a wealth of information for all ages. I'm sure that she would qualify for the visiting nurses to look in on her and help with baths, cooking and even light cleaning. Do give your local senior Center a call.

Ok, where do you guys get the Cinderalla dresses? I need to get one for my niece. I want to get her a nice one (not one of the inexpensive itchy ones). She wants it to wear to CRT for breakfast.

Also, any ideas on what I can do for her 10 year old brother? Becky and I were thinking maybe a t-shirt that said "It may not look like it, but I really am a Prince" or something. No ideas on the design part of it.

I would PM one of the disboutiquers (maybe Tom) and have a custom made. It wouldn't need to be the typical Cinderella dress, maybe something more comfy, but still cinderella esq. I bet you could get one made for about the same price as buying a Disney one

I gave myself an hour to DIS and I used it catching up.

Yesterday was hellish around here. Dad helped me paint Hunter's room again. Colby and I then ran out to find a stand/armoire to replace the one in Hunter's room that was falling apart. From there we picked up kids at school and came home to assemble the new furniture. By the time I finished that Chris was home and we decided that we needed a 3rd coat of red on the walls. of course we didn't have enough paint so back to HD for me. Chris started painting and I ended up picking up pizza for dinner. I helped with the walls for about an hour then ran back to school to pick up Nick from Play practice. He has rehearsals until 7 through Thursday of this week. He is on the sound crew and the preformances are Friday and Saturday. I got home and spent another hour cleaning up all the painting supplies.
By then Hunter had decided he wanted his furniture rearranged so we did some of that while reloading his room. Mind you we will need to remove the furniture again soon to do his floors, but not until all the other rooms are painted We also still need to paint all of his trim (I'm hoping to get my mother to work on that this weekend). I'm now very behind on laundry, housework (not that I can find the house) and everything else. I've got laundry going now and I'm off to find places to put stuff away in Hunter's room as the new unit is much smaller than the old unit. I'll wait to post pictures until the whole room is complete with flooring. I was planning to paint Nick's room tomorrow, but my Dad just found out he needs to work so that may not happen. Hopefully I can get it emptied and taped though.

Chris has someone looking at his truck today, I don't know if that is good or bad since I have no idea when we can actually close on the mortgage and buy a new truck

I will say that buying an automatic paint roller was a very smart idea. I really cuts down on painting time, especially if you need 3 coats to cover

I have no idea when I'll find time to drop in again, but I'm thinking of you all.

Princess has swimming today. Her regular instructor got promoted so she has a new instructor. The new girl is nice, which will be her downfall with the other 3 girls in the class. The other 3 moms have decided they don't need to be poolside anymore, so they have moved to the observation room. That means if the girls are naughty the moms can't hear the instructor telling them to behave, and the moms can't tell them to behave without getting up and going through 2 doors. They didn't tell them to behave when they were RIGHT THERE, so there is no way they will GET UP to tell them to behave. Is it summer yet?

Thanks for the compliments on the kiddos...Cassidy goes from looking so young to looking like a grownup in milliseconds I think.

She tried out and made the top band at her school. She is now pumped to get the piece for next marching band season to prepare to tryout for section leader...she is also pumped because she loves the music...they are doing selections from a Broadway composer...dang I can't remember the name.

I need to get a picture of the girls side by side but lately they've been acting like sisters and bickering up a storm(mostly Cassidy...I think she's finally become a full blown teen).

Lindsay - The first week of June is the last lesson. I don't mind swimming lessons so much now that I don't have to get in the water, but those other 3 girls are just naughty. Luckily Princess hasn't tried to join them in their antics.

Chanon - I think I am all set now! Thank you! And since free dining isn't likely to include my dates you could be off the hook entirely! (Well, as far as dealing with my ressies. I'm sure other DDAers will require your assistance, but they probably aren't as high maintenance as I am. )

Theresa - Congrats to Cassidy! DS is at a competition today. He was kind of nervous about it, so I hope it goes well.

Good Morning DDA!!

Thanks for the compliments on the kiddos...Cassidy goes from looking so young to looking like a grownup in milliseconds I think.

She tried out and made the top band at her school. She is now pumped to get the piece for next marching band season to prepare to tryout for section leader...she is also pumped because she loves the music...they are doing selections from a Broadway composer...dang I can't remember the name.

I need to get a picture of the girls side by side but lately they've been acting like sisters and bickering up a storm(mostly Cassidy...I think she's finally become a full blown teen).

Congratulations to Cassidy! (I'm sorry she's a real teenager lately, though! )
