DDA Chapter 5

Bernadette - There is some other song about a train. "Train whistle blowing, makes a sleepy noise, underneath the blankets, go all the girls and boys. Rockin', rollin', ridin', down along the bay. All bound for morning town, many miles away." I think Slim Dusty does sing that one. The one he sings in the barn is about having a dance with all of the different Wiggle friends - Wags the Dog, Dorothy, Henry.

Karen,

That is so very nice. :goodvibes

Hi! :wave2:

Kevin had the internet shut down for most of the weekend, hooking up our new computer. I finally got caught up today, but now with the start of the new thread, I'm going to "cheat" and send :grouphug: and :wizard: to you all.

Matty got his fingers caught in the door at our community center this morning. I was RIGHT THERE. :sad2: I had moved his hand, but he moved again, and now he has blood blisters around the tips of his ring and pinkie fingers. It just set a "blah" tone to my Monday, and I felt like the crappiest mommy every time he said "boo boo" today.

Amy :(

Oh, I feel for you! I remember when Mary was around Matty's age. We were going to Dairy Queen in our van, and when we got there, I got the kids out and slammed the door. Mary put her fingers in the door as it was closing. There was no time to get her out of the way before it closed all the way. Luckily, there was nothing broken, but there were blood blisters! I felt horrible, and cried for quite a while.

Jennifer -- we know you will be back when you have the time to be here. I can only begin to imagine the stress you are having to handle. All we ask is that you take care of yourself first. You know all this, but because I care it has to be said. I speak from experience, as do many others on here, I am certain!

You are an integral part of a team. A team is supposed to work together to reach a goal and your team will reach that goal eventually, with or without your help. It is the way it is. Every time I thought my work or homelife would fall down around me if I didn't get things done, Someone Somehow Someway got it done. It may not have been done the way I would personally have completed the task, but it did get done. The outcome may have been different than if I had done it, but it did get done.

Like Julie, I had preeclampsia when I was pregnant with Kathrin. I was the only music teacher for two very large schools and we were preparing our Fine Arts Festival, for which I was the chair. I was put on complete bedrest with no warning and could not go back to work to do anything to prepare them. They managed to get through the Fine Arts Festival with a shortened program and my sub was miraculously able to write her own lesson plans. They were not what I would have taught, but it wasn't me doing the teaching. It took a little while for me to realize that they could do it without me and I had to let it go and let them do it. It was a wonderful lesson for me to learn at the ripe old age of 27. (I have to admit that I still have to take a refresher course occasionally.)

I am not preaching at you; I am not your mother. ;) But, even without a detailed explanation from you, I bet nearly all of us have been in your shoes. We are a pretty dedicated group here and have handled situations like yours many times. That doesn't make it any less stressful and most probably doesn't answer your individual need for assitance, but I want you to know that the work will get done and those beautiful babies will come and the house will be ready. You will get it done, or Kyle will, or your Mom and sister will, or Someone Somehow Someway will get it done. For some unknown reason life happens that way.

The point to all this rambling is to say, we have been in your shoes and know how tough it is. And we also know you are tough and will handle it. Just be very careful of you in the process.

(Mothering over)

Elin, you put this so well!!! I second everything you said.

Jennifer - one of my nurses said something to me while I was on bedrest at "Hotel Hospital" that really hit me. She told me in the last few weeks of pregnancy, each day that you can keep a multiple in the womb equals a week in the NICU. When I heard that, I was much more inclined to follow orders and stay down to keep those little girls inside.

I'm praying for you and the girls (whose names I absolutely LOVE, by the way!!!).

My mom pulled my arm out of its socket when I was younger, just trying to "help" me get up from watching TV when we were supposed to be leaving. We didn't know at that point that my joints allowed things like this to happen much easier than you would expect, so she thought I was screaming for nothing and totally scolded me for it to boot! :rotfl:

She definitely felt guilty for quite some time.... I still love her though ;)

Sounds like this happens frequently! Alan was swinging Katie around by her arm when she was 2 and dislocated her elbow! He didn't believe that he had really hurt her, but later that night, she would scream if anyone jostled her, so he took her to the ER while I stayed home (we had some people cleaning our carpets and someone had to be there.). I was 8 and a half months pregnant with Jacob at the time, and ended up slipping on some water that the carpet cleaners spilled on our floor, and fell down our front stairs. I went into labor that night and Jacob was born 3 weeks early as a result. Our first pictures of Katie with Jacob have her with her arm in a Snoopy sling. Poor little girl.

Did Alan learn his lesson? Nope. He did the same thing to Jacob as well!

Nick fell down our stairs when Hunter was about 5 weeks old. Nick was 26 months old. I think he may have tripped over the dog, but who actually knows. Anyway he broke his leg. He was in a cast for 3 weeks. The day that the cast came off he was at my parent's house and fell down their cellar stairs. Off to the doctors for another x-ray, thankfully he was ok. I thought for sure that they would haul me off to jail for child neglect :rolleyes1

Oh, I know that feeling well! Katie fell off the top bunk of her bunk beds when she was 5. She landed on her face on the floor. She bit through her lip, which bled like a stuck pig, blacked both her eyes, and bloodied her nose. I had to take her into school and right into the principal's office to let him know what happened. He called in the school nurse and her teacher so I could let them know what happened. He told me that if she'd just come to school looking like that they would have called the police first thing, so it was good that I had gone in with her. It was scary though!

So, I guess I win the Dumb--s award for today. After getting up at 3:30 am and getting to work at 5:00 am I went to punch in, and the computer told me that I was not scheduled to work. I completely forgot that I was supposed to be OFF today,

I need to vent a bit. Chris and I went on our weight watcher's diet full force Monday morning. I even gave up ALL soda, even my beloved diet cherry pepsi. I'm drinking as much water as I can and supplementing with crystal light. I have been sure not to go over my points, so why is it that I haven't lost ANY weight :confused3 Chris has lost, though he won't tell me how much as he knows that I will be mad that he can lose at the drop of a hat.
I guess I'll just keep on swimming.

Vent over return to your regularly scheduled DDAing :goodvibes

That's one reason I hate to diet with Alan! It's so easy for him to lose weight, and I have to fight for every little pound. It tend to make me feel like it's just not worth it.

You are doing great, Deb! You can do whatever you set your mind to. Just don't let yourself get discouraged, and know that we are here and proud of you!

Public Service Announcement:

Colby watched the Today show this morning and he learned that we should not eat burritos. Why you might ask...well there was a lady on the show that wanted to have one baby so she had a burrito and then she had three babies at one time...

She had in vitro not a burrito :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: I get tears from laughing so hard at his interpretation :rotfl: :rotfl:

Ok, this one really got me!!! Good thing I had just swallowed or I might have burned up our computer! Thanks, Deb!

So who is watching America Idol this season?

I told DH last week that I really, really don't like that one guy. Then I see yesterday that he spent 3 years dancing NAKED!:scared1: No wonder he has that really arrogant attitude. Like those boys in high school who were CONSTANTLY hounding the girls for, um, attention.:rolleyes1 He just has that attitude that he thinks he is soooooo cool, but he tries to act like he is humble. He kind of makes me nauseous.

I do really like that little David Archuleta. He is precious and he is an amazing performer.

I also really liked the Lionel Richie meets Pearl Jam guy! :rotfl2: The problem is that I have heard him botch lyrics twice in the handful of times he has been on, which can't be good. He messed up a lyric in his audition and he did it again last week. What boggles my mind is that the judges don't call him on it! Maybe they don't know the lyrics, either?:confused3

How is David doing? He's a home town boy from Utah! I guess I should watch the show, but haven't been able to do it this year.

Anne Marie & Elizabeth how do you deal with the humidity in August at Disney? It does get really warm & humid here in the summer, but then I stay inside as much as possible lol

I am thinking we need to get to the parks early & leave in the afternoon & return at night. Do you all stay at the parks or do you take breaks? I know neither of you like taking breaks, but do you do things differently in the summer?

Well conventional wisdom says to do just that..go early, leave after lunch & then return at night for dinner & evening entertaiment. HOWEVER, I have never followed this rule.

..we tried, we really tried but we all have a hard time sitting still for too long.
5.gif
I plan pool days & late sleep ins & they don't usually work. We like to be at rope drop & stay til closing. Yes we are very tired at the end of the trip

but we just can't do it any other way.

I'll catch up more later, but I finally got this loaded and wanted to share with you all. I hope the link works.

WOW!!!!!! Awesome!!!!!!!

Oh no!!!

Karen
What nice ways to remember Shocker.

I DID IT!!! I'M ALL CAUGHT UP!!! Thanks for taking it easy on me with only 15 pages to read through today!

Leslie is much better and went to school today. Katie, however, is still quite sick with high fever, cough, sore throat, earache, etc. She's been home from school all week, and looks like at least one more day at home. She's really upset since tomorrow starts the schools storytelling competition. This is what she won last year, and she has been working really hard on a story for this year. I'll have to call the powers that be, and see if she can do her story when she returns. Keep your fingers crossed.

Luckily, Mary and Jacob have escaped this round of sickness. Knock wood that continues. I'm desperate to have the house to myself again!!! I need some mommy time without kids around!

There's some talk of Easter starting up. Here's what my kids are getting in their baskets (besides the required candy): Katie: High School Musical 2, Jacob: Pete's Dragon, Leslie: Barbie as the Island Princess, and Mary: 101 Dalmations. The twins birthday is also coming up 2 days before Easter. So, I'm getting Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium for Mary, and Enchanted for Leslie. That will be a fun weekend of movie watching at our house!

Gotta go shred the chicken for dinner. Talk to y'all later!

Chanon - loved your slideshow!

Tia - I am SO glad you found so many pictures hiding on Photobucket!!

Tammi - what a terrific job on the slideshow from October.

Can I go with your family? My family is a bunch of wimps!

Katie is so sad, but still working on her story. Hopefully, she'll be able to do the competition tomorrow!

We love Pete's Dragon!!! Jacob wasn't sure, at first, but lately he's been asking for it, so he should be happy!
