DDA Chapter 4

:scared1: I'm glad I wasn't downtown today! Well, except for driving through to/from church this morning. I saw your car, btw.

The building in question is the Café New Orleans, Tammi. Here is a very small picture of the building. You can just see the bottom of the roof here.

Weekends go so fast. Today after church I stopped and got Nicholas' hair cut. For the life of me I can't find someone that doesn't chop his hair or cut his bangs straight. I always end up redoing it. Then we came home and had lunch. Bob and Bethany came over, I took Nicholas to a friends house then went grocery shopping. We had pizza and salad for dinner. Nicholas worked some more on his science project. The bacterias are now culturing so in a day or two we should see things growing. It's not due until March 11 so if this doesn't work we should have plenty of time to redo it or come up with something else! Now we are off to read for a bit. Check ya later.

Have him document the "disaster" if it doesn't work. Part of experiments is learning from did & didn't work. That is part of the learning process.

We will need pictures of what grows! :thumbsup2

Before I heat up my soup and get into my jammies I have to tell you about my afternoon. I think I told you all that we had high wind warnings on the east coast today. Well, it WAS windy here! I was hoping one of my co-workers had gotten then chance to email me the pictures she took downtown this afternoon. You all will just have to listen to my description. Sorry...

We were judging the 2:00 recital and we heard some odd noises and saw things blowing by our window. Then we saw police cruisers and fire trucks and flashing lights and running men in uniform. The next thing we know they are opening the door to our studio to tell everyone to stay indoors but to think about moving our cars because the roof is coming off one of the downtown buildings!

I work in an historic downtown area and most of the buildings are from the 1700s and the 1800s. This particular building has a very steeply pitched roof covered in the old metal roofing. The wind had somehow gotten underneath the metal sheething and had pulled it completely away from the bricks which is what we saw blowing by our windows! It was rippling in the wind and they had blocked off our entire street. A roofing contractor and his assistant got there about 30 minutes later and were up on the roof nailing 2x6 planks all over the roof to get it to stay down. It was an amazing sight and they are a lot braver than I would have been! I will post pictures when I get them.

Oh my! I'm glad you all are ok. I'm sure it was a sight!

Hello, all! You have been a chatty bunch!

I haven't had time to really catch up. I love the ultrasound photos and the microscopic photos, Jennifer! I can't wait to hear the sexes.

I think I can win for the least pairs of shorts. I own none. I don't wear shorts ever.

Deb, I like the new shirt with the coordinating fabric! That was a great idea.

pixiedust: to all who aren't feeling well.

Beth

Elin the wind has been blowing here today, but not that bad :scared1: Glad everyone is ok!

I'm sorry you aren't enjoying being pregnant. I think I was one of the lucky few who never had a pg problem and loved every minute of it. When I hear some of the horror stories about morning sickness and such, I realize how lucky I was.

Thanks... I have had a fairly rough go so far, physically. I consider myself pretty tough, but when it's one thing after another (and I hear about people like you, and one of my good friends who never had a minute of trouble ;)) it just gets exhausting! To top it off, I've always had a lot of emotional struggles through the winter, and I think I staved them off being so busy but now that things are settling down they are kicking in (and of course it doesn't help all of the physical changes, hormones, etc added this year!). I'm hoping that if Spring ever shows up I'll be doing a bit better. I am thankful, though, that I've got the most wonderful husband I could have ever asked for. He is super supportive when I feel worthless, so at least I have someone to bounce a lot off of. :lovestruc I am a pretty lucky girl!

I went grocery shopping today and spent about $300. With Katrina living at home again most of the week, I can't believe how much our food bill has went up. She eats constantly. It doesn't matter how much she eats, 1/2 hour later she is hungry again. Yet, she is a size 2 (or 4).

I wish I could still do that! That metabolism will unfortunately catch up with her, sooner or later, I'm sure.

Look at it this way - she could be a guy! Then, you'd probably see your bill triple or quadruple!

Thanks everyone, for the comments! Kyle and I were pretty thrilled to see the babies again. I needed it, too, because I just don't enjoy being pregnant at all. At least I have a refresher of the outcome! ;) After realizing it doesn't always come easy, I'm not trying to complain about how blessed we are..... I'm just really wishing the stork would bring these babies instead, and sing Happy Birthday to them as he drops them off, and all would be great :rotfl:

I am done with Round 1 of the practice recitals. :woohoo:

However, I have a nasty cold developing. :sad2: It came on very fast with a horrible sore throat and chapped lips. Very odd, but I am not at all comfy cozy right now. Talk about the grumpies taking over. That could do very easily happen to me. I need to eat some soup, put on my jammies and climb into bed with my laptop, my DDA friends and my Dining spreadsheet.

I feel you, Elin. I'm having a similar experience myself, today. Don't know if it's the weather that is all over the map (and thus maybe allergies?) or if I have your garden variety cold coming on. Either way, not a fun way to end the weekend, or start off the week! Here's some :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: for all of us not feeling quite up to snuff these days!

Deb - The shirt looks great! But Chris needs a pith helmet, not a bucket hat! ;)

:rotfl: :rotfl:

You guys do look great, Deb! :thumbsup2

well i have news! My cousin and I were looking at islands to go to this summer, but airfare is ridiculous...soooo it looks like ill be in disney/universal/sea world this summer!

WOW! I'm glad no one was hurt. I don't think you could find me up on a roof with metal sheeting flying around. :scared:

Glad it was a productive day for you, Tammi. I wish I could say the same! Can't wait to hear the results of Nicholas' project.

How exciting!! When are you guys going to go? Any idea of where you'll stay?

I was kind of disappointed at first, at not going to an island..but...if we go to florida, we will have more money to do fun things there-so im pretty excited!

My first choice is June 14-21...i have to check at work tomorrow what day my kiddies' graduation is..I have narrowed it down to 4 places--we are using a timeshare from my grandma--but i know nothing about these places so were still doing resarch

He used 6 different cleaning solutions (water, water&soap, water&alcohol, water&bleach, lysol wipe, & lysol antibacterial cleaner). His hypothesis is that the lysol antibacterial cleaner is going to clean the best. Why? Because it's what Mom uses to clean the kitchen. I sure hope there isn't tons of cultures growing in that petri dish!!! :faint::rolleyes:

:cool1: Have any dates picked out?

YAY! When?

What's funny is I didn't tell you that I was the same way when I was her age. You see what happens when the metabolism catches up with you! :lmao: I was less than 120 pounds through all of high school and into college. When I married at 20, I was 110 pounds. I'm 5'5". I was down to 145 after more than a year of eating healthier. Unfortunately, I'm back up to 165 right now which is the reason that I'm working on eating healthy and exercising again. I got the eating healthy last time but didn't get into the exercise habit. I'm hoping the exercise habit will make the difference this time. I'd really like to be around 135-140. That is an ok weight for my height according to the health charts.

Here is my worksheet for dining in September/October. What do you think??

diningwksheet.jpg

If Tutto Italia is closed during our trip we would probably put Coral Reef in its place. At least, that is the plan right now!

We will eat breakfast fairly early and will eat dinners as late as we can make a reservation. As you all know, we are used to eating dinner at 9:00-9:30 anyway because of my teaching schedule.

ETA: For some reason all my snack credits are not showing up on the worksheet here on my screen. But they are on the photobucket picture so I assume you all will see them and when my cookies are gone, so will I!

There are wind chill warnings here. It is horrible outside! I mean worse than I ever remember. I sure am glad that I don't have to be out in it for any length of time. Just walking from the car to the store was horrible.
