DDA Chapter 3

I don't think it's a using Disney images thing. My guess is that it was because she had a website set up and she was profitting from using those images by accepting donations.

I didn't realize that she was making a profit. I think I'll still reserve my designing for friends and family, though. It can be a big commitment, and although there are many wonderful people, more and more people have just been rude and demanding about it.

You can add my daughter to the list for last night. She had an essay due for English today that she had been given several days to do. I was out with Miles at swimming when she called to let me know that she had left her English binder in her locker, and she couldn't do the essay without it. Fortunately for her, school was on the way home from swimming, and the school was still open because of a concert.

must have been something in the air!!

Thanks Tammi,I do feel bad(I won't tell him that)! I did tell him that if the teacher will not let him bring it on Monday for a partial credit to ask if he could do anything for extra credit to make up for it. We will see when he gets home today.

It is so, so hard to let our children "fail" at things, but sometimes that is exactly what they need. I hope that the teacher is fair with him.

Unlike Vicki and Deb I have NOT been spending my time away from the DDA accomplishing anything remotely resembling housework or costume design. Well, I DID guilt myself into cleaning the bathrooms this morning before I got on the DIS. ;)

(This is going to be long and if you are not interested in reading my brainstorming, please feel free to skip the rest of this post! My feelings will not be hurt in the least!! Besides, I think this is what you all lovingly call a pre-trip report! So maybe I need to post it on the TR Board too... :rotfl: )

I didn't find it boring in the least. Unfortunately, I am no help to you, but please continue to write.

Beth

If that was their (Disney's) gripe then the other designers should be OK. I am personally glad I DON'T design because some of the requests just seem so, well, unreasonable? I read through some of the threads sometimes and I wonder what is UP with some of the things people ask for. I know I can't design my way out of a paper bag, so I wouldn't expect someone to make 18 different designs for me, plus autograph pages, plus invitations to ALL of the character meals, plus a design for a tote bag, plus designs for my hotel window, plus a punch card for my DDP, plus...

It's not so much the amount of things that are asked for as it is the way people ask. Even my preschoolers know that if you want someone to do something for you, you had better remember your PLEASE and THANK YOU. Then there are the ones that you spend days working with making changes, correcting colors, etc., and, not only do you not get a thank you, but you also see a request on the board for the exact things that you have done for them. If you don't like my style/designs, that is fine, but don't start with a request for something with purple lettering then have me change it to blue because the boys won't wear purple then change it to green because someone else doesn't like blue and then decide to ask another designer for the same shirt. I want people to be happy, so I really don't mind making changes if the design is actually going to be used. And then the THANK YOU should be said.

Guess I'm a bit of a witch today, huh? The other designers are obviously much, much nicer and much, much more patient than I am.

I would have been at the grocery store buying poster board.:rolleyes1
I was looking at DS's online grades last night and he has a "0" for one assignment in Science that is dropping his grade by a LOT. I asked him what happened. He said he turned it in. I told him to go look in his folder for it. Lo and behold, THERE it is! So I told him he better march up to her today and ask her if she will give him partial credit for it. He got a "0" on an assignment for the last marking period, too, and now I am really questioning if he really turned that paper in because she never changed the grade.

I probably would have been as well, but really I think the correct response was the one that Janet made. It's just so hard, because one bad grade can really matter when it comes to the report card grades.

Good morning all! Looks like a busy day ahead. Rachel's birthday party is tonight and Mom works until 4:45 so I'm in charge of the final prep. We've got to get to the library, Target and the grocery store this morning. After that, I've got to make mask shaped cookies for the party. She's having a Mardi Gras theme and their going to decorate their own mask cookies in lieu of cake. They are also going to decorate "floats". That reminds me, I was going to find some Mardi Gras-type music to download for playing during the decorating and "parade". The hardest part is going to be keeping Terra distracted enough to keep her from wanting to join in. I wish there was a way to take her out to do something, but I've got to stay and help mom lest she go a little crazy with 11 way-to-hyper-12yos running around.

Happy Friday everyone!

I hope that Rachel has a fantastic birthday party! It sure sounds like a lot of fun.

I think you've hit the nail on the head...and I think the other designers (who weren't asked by Disney to stop) who are taking breaks and stopping designing for exactly the same reason.

I am sorry if I ever forgot to use my manners and say please or thank you to any of you!!

I am sure that I forget sometimes, too, so I shouldn't be such a witch. There isn't anyone that posts in here that I would ever feel that they didn't appreciate something, though.

I don't know why I'm so grumpy right now. It's not time for PMS. I have to admit that I was a inappropriately grumpy and even a tad bit rude this morning at preschool. Our classes start at 9:15 am. I can't get Miles to school before 8:40 am, and I have a 15 minute drive to the preschool. Fortunately, I have a wonderful co-teacher that understands and does much of the set-up work while I take more of the clean-up. Today I arrived at 8:55 am to find two families already there! :scared1: My co-teacher and I still had set-up to do and things to discuss that really needed to be a bit private. I am sure that my feelings were more evident than they should have been. We told the families that they had to be responsible for their children until closer to 9:15, but they were still there while we were trying to prep and talk.

Ok...I really need to go for a little while. I promised that I would put together the PARP packet by mid-February, and we are just about there. If you see me back on here, please ask if that packet is done and e-mailed to the PARP chair. Thanks!

Our preschool downstairs has a closed door policy specifically for this reason. The main door opens at about 10 minutes prior to class starting. We have parents and kids still(school year 3/4 done) coming at 9 hoping to get in and wrecking havoc in the office halls:scared1:

I am sorry your mood is "off"

I love the technical wording. :rotfl: :lmao: It must have worked, though, because I see Elin's link has words instead of that html stuff. :rotfl:

Well, it did point me over to the Technical Board! And with much reading and testing and reading and more testing it finally DOES work! Thank you all very much. :goodvibes

I hope to check in periodically over the next three days. It is our first weekend of pre-Festival practice recitals. Between 3:00 this afternoon and 5:00 Sunday evening I will listen to and judge somewhere around 165 students, in 17 recitals. I also have to accompany 9 concerto students so I do have a chance to get up and play the piano a bit. :goodvibes:

I hope you all have great weekends if I miss checking in. Please leave me a forwarding address if we move! ::yes::

Desirae told my mom she is pregnant and she flipped out. oh well i get to hear her (mom) complain for 9 months now.

since y'all are talking about weaknesses mine is sweets and sodas. i am not catholic but i am doing lent and giving those up. i am hoping to start eating more fruits and veggies too. i am a little upset because last week i weighed 187 and weighed yesterday and i am 191 GRRRRRRRRRRRRR. i though i had lost 3 pounds but i guess i gained 4 back. oh well.

Karen, I am not catholic either but used the idea of lent several times in the past (and at other times of year even) to regain focus on things that I believe in and should be living by. I think giving up a few things you know are affecting your health is a great idea. Good luck with your "healthy living" decisions! :goodvibes:

Yes I think they came out really nice. I showed one to a few friends and had great comments.

Hooray! I'm so glad they looked good!

Have you seen this?

'American Idol' is "Going to Disney World!"

http://www.allearsnet.com/news/hnews.htm#020708

I did see it. I must admit, I loathe American Idol. Always have, and can't cahnge it . Still, if the prizes are as good as they were for Millionaire, you better believe I'll be hypocritical as necessary to sing and try and win! It might become my new favorite attraction! :rotfl:

Hi all! Wendy just called and Michael is out of surgery and in ICU now. They
started surgery around 10:45 this morning and finished up around 5:30.
The doctors were able to accomplish everything that they hoped and are
very optimistic about the outcome. Michael is currently intabated and
under sedation primarily to minimize movement, etc and not disrupt the
surgery site. He will be in ICU for a few days and the recovery will
still be awhile, but things look really good.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers!

Great news! Thank you for keeping us posted.

Betty Crocker has kicked me out of her wannabe club.:guilty: :guilty:

I'm probably the only woman alive that could burn a crock pot meal......

Nite all....

:rotfl: I'm sorry, but you are too funny! I hope you got something to eat at least! ;)

Well, now Brantley-Kate has the stomach flu... It's going to be a long February...

Oh no! The kids (and you!) can't catch a break! :(

That's ok Stephanie, I have a friend that was never allowed in, in the first place.

I don't think it's a using Disney images thing. My guess is that it was because she had a website set up and she was profitting from using those images by accepting donations.

I figured the same thing. Even just asking for donations "to keep the site running" is a little fishy, since I'm sure nobody is keeping track of how much people are actually accepting. Some of the sites I've seen that on have been freely hosted sites, too!

Unlike Vicki and Deb I have NOT been spending my time away from the DDA accomplishing anything remotely resembling housework or costume design. Well, I DID guilt myself into cleaning the bathrooms this morning before I got on the DIS. ;)

I saw your link, and wondered with whom you were cheating on us!? ;) I loved your pre-trip report though, and your plans sound absolutely wonderful!

That's exactly why, as someone pointed out, the designers always rotate...

Somehow you have to use that little globey-paperclip thingy.

You all are cracking me up today! :rotfl:

Happy Friday everyone!

You do have a busy day planned! I hope it's a good one so far. Have fun with the party tonight! :)

Abi had honors ceremony yesterday during school...she came home and said her goal was to be High Honors by 8th grade...I told her unless I am mistaken she will make it this semester if she keeps her grades where they are. :goodvibes

Cassidy had to explain the term "DDA Aunties" to my mom this week. It seems that she has narrowed her search for colleges specifically down to places where there will be an "auntie" or other family nearby. So in the next couple of years I will get to meet more of you as we college hunt. :goodvibes

Yay Abi! What's on Cassidy's list?

You are not being witchy, those are very valid complaints that I think we've all seen too much! There will always be people like that, which is why a lot of people give up designing altogether. I think it's wonderful you are still enjoying it, and will do it occasionally (for a limited population)! I know I for one love your designs! :goodvibes:

Yay Abi! What's on Cassidy's list?

Right now it's been narrowed down to Utah, TX, Colorado or near Ama.:rotfl2: It will probably expand by a couple of more states as she looks....or maybe, just maybe she'll narrow it down even farther(who am I kidding:lmao: )

I hope you college hunt in VA!

Can I just tell you all what a wonderful man I have found. Bob showed up at my work today (lucky for him I was in my office; well, maybe lucky for me) with flowers and a card, wanting to take me out to lunch. Tomorrow it's officially one year.

He's definately a keeper Tammi! (I think there is something to say about the name "Bob" to just about everyone on this thread!) ;)
Happy Anniversary!

I hope you college hunt in VA!

you all are one of the first stops....we are trying to coordinate it so that Cassidy can watch Elin at work. :lovestruc

Another bonus?? You all live near Ama. :lovestruc
