Question for teachers, past and present.....would you rather get a GC that you could use on yourself, or would you prefer a GC for a teacher supply store?

Thanks, Beth. I usually get GCs for supplies for Christmas gifts and then GCs for Starbucks/Panera/Etc. for end of year gifts. Then I got to thinking, would GCs for supplies be equivalent to me getting, say, a vacuum for a present? Sorry if I offended anyone that would truly relish opening a vacuum Christmas morning. ;)

I agree with what Beth was saying. I love getting the barnes and noble gift cards-I usually get a book for the kids and a book for me! But I do love the notes/cards--i have a file full of them and keep them all.

You did make me laugh with the vacuum comment--I actually bought my brother a vacuum for christmas this year..hes also waiting to hear about a house and he said he wants house stuff becuase even if this one doesnt go through, he will be moving out soon--so i bought a vacuum!

Single digits!!!
How exciting!:cool1: Are you packed?

Well, it's a snow day here. I swear that I am living in the land of wimps! I try to justify it by saying that it is very hilly, but really, I think that they just don't know enough about keeping roads clean and driving in the snow. (And I am one of the wimpiest people I know about driving in the snow.) This snow wouldn't even be on the radar where I grew up. Syracuse and Buffalo would be laughing at us!

I don't work on Mondays, and I had a full day of starting my Christmas shopping planned. I guess that is out, and I'll have to fit it around other things this week. I will have fun with the kids, though.
How was your snow day?

Hi I am back from a great time with the girls at Disney!!!!! We got alot done in our short trip. We went to the Allears meet (lots of nice folks), saw parts of the parade taping, had tea at the GF (fancy!), & really had a alot of fun. I have some pictures which I will post later. Hope everyone is well.
Can't wait to hear more & see your photos. Did you have a new room at FQ?

Ok, I haven't been tempted by the Dooney & Bourke purses until now. This one has my attention! Chuck would kill me and I won't end up purchasing because that is an airline ticket for a trip. But oh so tempted!!!! :lmao:

I like that one a lot too but I really don't carry a purse. I got some fabric markers and was thinking of copying a coloring book page onto fabric and coloring it in with the fabric markers to make some sort of park bag. Maybe do patches with different characters and then get their autographs on it. BUT that would mean using white fabric and not sure that would be a good choice for a bag. Maybe I could use print fabric for the bottom & straps of the bag....I've got all sorts of ideas spinning in my head......I think I could come up with something pretty cool.

DH & I went to an IEP meeting for Joe today. We were both very happy with all they've done/continue to do for him. They all really care about him and are helping him make a lot of progress socially. His teacher is absolutely perfect for him this year!!! All of his teachers have been very good but this one is really special. She really likes Joe and seems to enjoy the "challenge" of bringing out the best in him.

There was a thread on maybe the family board about when kids stop believing in Santa and one poster who was a teacher said she would think a 10year old who still believes must special needs. It made me wonder if I was doing Joe a disservice by "letting" him still believe. So I asked today about it and they all said they would let him believe for as long as he "wants" to. They said they tell the kids who bring it up in school that families believe/celebrate different things and that is a discussion to have at home with your family. His teacher said she thought about 1/2 of the kids in her class still believe. I know I was 6 so I have to say I'm surprised my kids still believe. Lizzy hasn't really said boo about Santa or what she wants for Christmas or anything so I think she must know or at least suspect.

I've been thinking something similar. I was thinking about using cream colored canvas material to make a bag and use that for the characters to sign and then add some patches.

It makes me angry that people are so judgmental about kids who want to keep the magic longer. I "pretended" to believe for a very long time. I never did tell my mom that I didn't. I knew that would ruin the "magic" for her. It was more fun to pretend.

My kids also believed longer than other kids. I like to think they really, truly believed but never wanted to ask to find out. I think that the kids that truly believe longer are those that have a great home life so are able to keep their innocence alive longer.

Beth sorry about the snow day. Apparently it is snowing all around us, but we have none...nada :confused3

Tammi :cool1::cool1:

It's funny that you guys are equating Disney gifts with airfare. We've been watching airfare for April and it would cost a minimum of $2500 for the 5 of us to fly to WDW for April vacation. Most airlines are closer to $3500. It doesn't look like we'll be going this year. Our APs will expire before Nick finishes drivers ed and I he didn't like the idea of us going without him.

I have 3,4,5 and 2 6th graders for Sunday School...at least half of them still believe in Sunday and the other half did not say boo when the big man in red came up. I think there are some mean and vindicative grown ups and children.

I am all for keeping my kids kids as long as I can. Lizzy complains (not too loudly....) that all the kids in school have cell phones and ipod touches and TVs and computers in thier rooms...I just don't see how those are needed for an 11 year old.

I think my kids believe in Santa because Santa brings them gifts I would NEVER buy them.

That sounds great too! I was thinking it would be easier to copy the images I am thinking of using onto something lighter than canvas. I'll have to try out different fabrics with my light box. I should work on it so I can make something to use as a momento of my 50th bday trip.

Especially on the Dis! I am still shocked at what folks will say on the boards. I think sometimes they do it just for fun.

All 5 of the educators in Joe's meeting were 100% behind letting the kids believe as long as they want.

How old was Abi?

I suppose I should face the stairs. I haven't gone upstairs since I came down this morning to go to Joe's meeting. The couch really isn't the same as my bed. My foot is a bit uncomfortable. I think part might be that I'm ready to get the stitches out.

Good morning. :)

While my parents were down here we had our "Christmas" since I we won't be together for the holiday. I got a Kitchenaid Artisan Stand Mixer, which I asked for, so I guess I need to figure out what I'm going to do with it! They also gave me some money, so I think I'm going to get myself a 22" LCD tv for my bedroom. Nicholas got a Kodak Playsport underwater video/picture camera, which he will get to take with us on our trip! Alyssa got bunk beds for her American Girl dolls. But the hit was their Snuggies that they got!

Hunter and Nick were both 12 when they stopped believing. Colby still totally believes.

I did not sleep well at all. I need to call my doctor as I'm out of the meds that they prescribed to help me sleep. I was hoping that I could sleep without it, but I swear I saw every minute of every hour pass by. It is going to be a loooong day today.

Good morning!

I know its not THAT cold out but its cold enough to make me wish for summer! I hate going outside on cold days!

Bernadette,
Yes we did get a new room at POFQ. We had a corner room on the 3rd floor in building 7. The new decor in the room was really nice. This was my first time there & it was just beautiful & very easy to get around.

I still tell all my kids to make out a letter for Santa & will never "admit" anything .:lmao: My 2 older ones don't believe but Sophie still does (she will be 10 in 3 weeks). Let them be kids as long as you can. :goodvibes

Tammi,

Yay for your ticker! Sounds like a nice early Christmas celebration at your house. :goodvibes

Deb,
:wizard: for getting some sleep. You cant do all you do without proper rest.

Bernadette,
Hope your foot is getting better.
