DDA Chapter 26

I agree with you guys--I even look at my kindergarten kids and they want EVERYTHING. I have a prize box that individuals or tables can earn a trip to--some kids think that when one kid goes, they all go, just because its "fair"- or when I send home a certificate to one kid for something, they all want one right then...it drives me crazy because i know its going to be a huge wakeup call to them

I'm always telling my kids "life's not fair". Emma always mutters "I HATE when you say that". I think she hates it because she does know it is true-sad but true.;)

The latest "not fair" thing I've been listening to is from Lizzy. It isn't fair that you had a dog when you were kid and you won't let us have one.

Jen Chris wants to know what you think about Jimmy Johnson being on Survivor?

Remember I was telling you how crowded the Big E was on Saturday? The paper said there were 157,000+ people there. It is no bigger than a Disney park what is the max capacity of a Disney park?

In VT you take the written test at 15, then you have to take drivers ed and have had your permit for a full year before you can take the driving test at 16. In NH you can just start driving at 15 with an adult. After taking drivers ed you take the written test and driving test the same day at age 16.

Here you can't take the written test for a permit until your 16th birthday. Then you need to wait at least 6 months and log a certain amount of driving time (both day and night) before you can test (driving) for your license. If you are under 18, you cannot drive after 9 pm unless it is directly between work or school and home. You cannot have more than two passengers unrelated to you in the car. You can get these privileges at 17 if you take a certified driver's ed. course. On the permit, you must drive with an licensed adult who is at least 21 in the front passenger seat. (There are many more restrictions in NYC and the surrounding areas.) At the rate Laura is going, she'll be close to 18 before she decides to go for the driving test, though she did get her permit on her 16th birthday.

I popped back on here because our weather is so terrible I am not driving until it clears up. It may mean that I lose my "free" night at the hotel, but I am not stupid. I would rather make it at 5:00 a.m. than not make it at all.

MA is the same-16 to get permit and must have it for 6 months before getting a license. You can not drive with anyone under 21 not related to you for the first 6 months. I think the time restriction is 12:30 to 5am or something like that. I actually tried to look it up but it was too confusing.

I went to the school to pick up Lizzy. She was supposed to be there at 8pm so I got there about 7:40 since parking is somewhat limited. At about 8:02 the first bus pulls in but Lizzy wasn't on that one. By 8:20 we start hearing rumblings that the other 2 busses went to the church. So instead of moving 2 busses to all the parents they make all the parents drive to the church-what a zoo!!!!! AND just to make it fun there were no lights at the church. I was happy to find Lizzy in the dark and she had already found all her stuff before I found her. She had a great time but was really sad to come home early and to have not had me there with her tonight.

Elin, I wish you a safe and wonderful trip!

Bernadette, our 6th graders have a similar experience in June. I am sorry that Lizzy's was shortened due to the weather!

And she has to go to school tomorrow. She's not happy. They missed tonight's magic show and tomorrow she was supposed to do a coastal study thing that she was really looking forward to.

She said they were told they came home early because parents were calling in a panic. I have to say the weather report doesn't look that bad-looks like 1" of rain.:confused3

I was thinking about you--I know we had horrible weather last night and was wondering how it was by you!

It is pouring out. Several Vermont School are closed, not sure if there is flooding or maybe the electricity is out :confused3 I haven't seen it rain this hard in a long time and it has pretty much been nonstop since yesterday morning.

I'm off to sub today, then home for a bit before heading off to wait tables tonight. Long day, but hopefully the restaurant will be busy:wizard:

I went to Target this morning to do the grocery shopping & saved $24 in coupons. :yay: Since I cannot find a job I figure I can be more deligent on what we are spending. :littleangel:

Bernadette, I am sorry Lizzy's trip was cut short.
DS came home last night and said the Biology teacher is taking a group of 15 kids to Costa Rica for Spring Break. Just $1900! First ones to turn in their money get to go! Um...Guess who is NOT going to Costa Rica? :rolleyes1

WOAH! only 1900--whew!

Thanks. I really feel like Lizzy & her classmates were "robbed" of their full camp experience. Especially all the kids like Lizzy who were waiting for their parents to come and spend the last night there. The forecast was always for this area right on the coast to get about 1" of rain. We actually got less than 1/2" of rain. A few nervous parents called and the school administration caved in and called the kids home early.

Costa Rica sounds cool. We could have sold overprice frozen meat as a fund raiser for Lizzy tuition for camp. We would have had to pick it up when I was in Disney last Dec. Then they had another fund raiser in the spring selling frozen pizza. We paid the entire tuition. I liked the set up of Lizzy camp with parent chaperones. I don't think I would send Lizzy to Costa Rica with one teacher. Maybe I would have to go as a chaperone.

Deb-hope things went were lucrative a work for you tonight!

I think I better start on Halloween costumes this weekend.

We were not busy at work last night. I think the weather has kept the leaf peepers at bay. Even the customers that we did wait on were not good tippers which is the norm for foliage :upsidedow Oh well, at least I did work and did make some money. I'm glad that I'm working some at the school because that certainly does help. I know that God has a plan for me and something will happen if I keep applying. I've never been a patient person so maybe he's teaching me a lesson in the meantime;)
