DDA Chapter 25

Daniel spent yesterday reading in bed. He finished Kingdom Keepers in a few hours & loved it. Now he wants 2 & 3. :)

I read #1 a long time ago. Miles got 2 when it first came out and just got 3 for his birthday. He hasn't started it yet, though. He chose to read The Red Pyramid and How to Train a Pirate (or something like that...it's the second in the How to Train Your Dragon series) first. I don't know why I never read 2, but I feel like I should go back an reread 1 first.

Jennifer, I am glad that your dad is doing better.

Becky, I'm glad that you had a good trip! I'm sorry that your car wasn't done for you though.

My car is in today for two recall notices and the 60,000 mile service package. That is going to be expensive! We need it all good and ready for our drive to Florida, though, and dh gets out of having to get me an anniversary gift this way.

Hi all!!

My mom heads back tomorrow....the last of 20+ family members to leave.

Continuation and than graduation were awesome!!

I did well at both until.....at graduation 2 graduates got a standing ovation as they walked across to get their diplomas because it was the first time they had walked in public (twins both suffering from MS). So proud of the senior class at LHS (we know one of the boys from Jazz Band and his volunteering with a band event)

I am peeling because I didn't take my own advice and put on sunscreen on Friday with 80+ weather.

Everybody is in my thoughts and prayers.

Congratulations to Cassidy! You and she are ready to enter a new stage of life. It's a little sad and a little scary and sometimes frustrating, but mostly exciting.

Welcome home, Becky! I am glad you had a good trip but wish your car issues had been resolved by the tie you got back!

Tammi - I will be curious to see what our county decides on. I like Plan B. It would necessitate a huge change in our summer schedule the first year, but we would benefit in the long run. I think the kids would too. Have those vacation-crazed parents realized that if they get out on Memorial Day the rates at the beach are cheaper t the beginning of June too?!?!?!?

Jennifer - I am glad your Dad is doing better

I had a fantastic trip. I got back last night. None of the problems or issues of my last trip. My room at Pop in the 80's section had just been refurbed and they were still redoing the rooms in the building I was in. They were painting on stilts on the lowest level the 1st days but by the end they were done doing those rooms. But I came home to the issue of my car not being done. I was having the damaged fender replaced from when my Dad hit my car. The new was damaged, so it wasn't done and still isn't.

The parks were all very busy. I knew DHS would be because of Star Wars weekend but the other parks were as well. They were parking people going to DHS at EPCOT and then busing people back and forth but they got free parking then. Magic Kingdom was extremely busy yesterday. I was glad I had stayed out til 2am as I got to ride and do things that otherwise had long lines and then got up and went back to MK at 9am.

There is lots of construction all over. Lots of things covered in drapes and undercover or behind walls, but still plenty to do.
Sounds like you had a nice trip! I would say the parks seemed busier to me too but Joe's my early riser so we were always at the park before opening. That combined with fast passes we did OK but there were times when it was hard to move due to the crowds.

The new Pop rooms sound great! I'll have to plan a trip back there!

:woohoo:Congrats to Cassidy!!!:woohoo:

Tammi, we DID have a calendar similar to "B" and it was good. NOW we start the 4th Monday in August (no TX district is allowed to start earlier). We get a week at Thanksgiving, 2 weeks at Christmas (but if Christmas is on a Monday the break will START on Christmas), a week in March for Spring Break, and we don't finish until a few days after Memorial Day. The first semester runs over into January. Asinine. DS has to go to school Tue, Wed, Thur next week. 4 hours Tue & Wed, 2 hours Thur. But they give exams so the kids can't skip those days or they fail.

They had posted a proposed calendar that cut Thanksgiving down to 3 days, and they must have done something with another day to get us out by Memorial Day, but that is NOT the calendar they adopted. The kids only have ONE day off between Labor Day and Thanksgiving. One of the districts near us had been starting the first week of August, then they got a week off in October. That would be AWESOME. But, alas, that is no more.
I haven't seen a 2010/2011 calendar. I think the teachers go back on the first Tuesday of September so that meant this year the kids went back the Wednesday before Labor Day but next year it would be after Labor Day. They have Thu/Fri off for Thanksgiving. 1+ week for Christmas-go back the day after New Years, week in Feb & week in April and get out mid/late June. This year with no snow the last day is June 18th but there are years when they have to cancel in service days to make the 180s days and follow the MA law that says no school in July.

I have been watching for a discounted rate to appear for one night at the beach Club for the girls on October 8. Kathrin is coming in on the 1st or the 2nd and staying until the 9th. Bob and Kristin will be there for only the 8th through the 10th. Having Kristin share a room with Bob and me for two nights is not so bad. But the 4 of us would kill each other so I decided if I could get a discount on a room at BC I would book the girls one night.

Well, this morning I had a pin # in my email! And it is valid for some nice dates! It was good for the one night we needed and could be used through 12/18 if that were an option this year. So, with a 40% savings the girls have their own room for that one night of overlap! :yay:

Tammi - Option B sounds closest to what we have now. I love it!

Becky - Sorry your car wasn't fixed when you got home. I am glad you had a nice trip!

Elin - Congrats on the room! Good things happen to good people!

Theresa - Congrats to Cassidy! I hope things go smoothly with your move! Are you excited???

Today is my 20th anniversary! Alan and I are spending the day together, getting the car all ready to go on Friday! We are also going out to lunch. It should be a nice, relaxing day for us... NOT! However, we'll be together, so that will make it fun!

Happy Anniversary Glynis!

The kids start school the first week of August here, but yesterday was their last day.

PT this morning, a little TMI here, but I am having a terrible time trying to shave my pits, one arm won't raise high enough, and the bad arm barely reaches the good one, I have several nicks trying to accomplish this task. :lmao:

Happy Anniversary Glynis and Alan!

Elin - yay for the PIN!

Debbie - good luck with PT. Could Richie give you a hand? :confused3 Or not. :scared:

Tammi,
Plan "B" sounds similiar to what we have here. I liked the way we had it in NY (going back after Labor Day) however my kids schedule now gives us 2 weeks off at Christmas, & 3 days off Thanksgiving week (In NY we only had 2 days off for T-day & 1 week for Christmas) So I am liking our new plan ("B")better. My kids go back mid August & end early June now.

Elin,
Congrats on the PIN!

Deb,
:wizard::wizard::wizard:

Glynis,
Happy Anniversary!!!:yay:

Went to the podiatrist. He said I was a very good candidate for surgery becasue all my soft tissue (ligaments, tendons...) is in very good condition. He does it with a pin that gets removed. He knew & loved my father-in-law. I really liked him. He will NOT do anything before my trip. I told him I had thought about canceling the trip but he said "NO, you can't do that!" Did I say I like him? He's going to give a prescription for stronger ibueprofin that he says I should take every 6 hours until the pain is completely gone. I took over the counter at Disney but haven't been taking it at home. Then he told about some other inserts to try. He said if it isn't better before the trip I could try cortizone but he would rather not as it can degrade the ligaments. Now I've got to figure out when I could do it with my work schedule......I think perhaps as soon as I get home would be best with the hopes that I would back to work by the time the budget got super crazy. Otherwise I would have to wait until January and I don't think I want to do it in the winter.

Bernadette,
Sounds like a good Dr! Never underestimate the power of a cortisone shot. If I didn't get the one I did right before a Disney trip a few years ago I would not have been able to walk all that much. Good luck & hope you can schedule the surgery way before January.

Good afternoon, DDA!

Glynis - Happy anniversary!!! Happy packing...what a way to celebrate. ;)

Bernadette - Sounds like promising info on your foot. I hope that you can get the surgery scheduled soon after your trip.

Debbie - Hope the PT isn't too painful!

Joe is reading the narration for Carousel of Progress to the girls and singing the song between each "act".:rotfl:
