DDA Chapter 25

I took the afternoon off today so that I could help Lizzy's girl scout troop make fleece blankets for a charity. The charity gave us solid fleece and the troop used cookie money to buy the print fleece.

I am really exhausted tonight. I think I might be getting Joe's cold. Gene took the kids to Math & Science night. I just wasn't up for it. I think I should take advantage of the quiet house and go to bed.

We had Colby's ADHD eval this morning. As suspected he has it. I was impressed at how thorough they were. The looked over all the answers that the school and I provided then proceeded to ask questions to make sure that he didn't have any underlying undiagnosed learning disabilities. The agree with me that he is a very intelligent kid, but just has trouble focusing. They will write something up and we will need to change his IEP to include ADHD as well as his developmental delays in language/speech. He learns very well one on one, but I'm sure that he doesn't qualify for his own aide and the teacher doesn't have time to give him one on one. That leaves meds. I will meet with the doctor in a couple of weeks to discuss which meds to try. Does anyone have an opinion on a med that will give him focus, but not drone him out?

Theresa - I can't tell you how sorry I am for all you are going through right now :hug::hug::hug::hug:

Thanks for all the well wishes on the shoulder, it took a couple of days but I think the cortizone shot has made some difference. I still have lots of mobility issues, I had my eval with PT yesterday and was given some pushing and stretching exercises, and will have my first session tomorrow.

Looks like the BBQ is going to have a big turnout, I can't wait!

We can't wait either.

I think getting pregnant was a good suprise, it will make you slow down.

Of course Deb you need to slow down too.

I wish it would work soon! I think once the school year ends it will slow down a little. There may be a number of kids over, but we won't be running as much. Then, next year we'll work it so things are a little slower.

So I haven't come to terms with what is going on in my house but I need major prayers so I will tell some of what is going on:

Our house is in final foreclosure....sale date next Wednesday...which means we will be evicted at the end of the month. We are going to try and short sale it.....extending the amount of time we are in here long enough to get me back on my feet.(all of this was a lot sooner than Jim led me to believe it would be....I thought we had an extension until mid April)

I am a bad housekeeper and with me being laid up my house is a disaster zone....I am hoping they can come together long enough to clean it up for Saturday.

My family starts trickling in on Friday for the reunion that they are holding for my uncle, so that everybody can see him while he is still good. I am a mess.

Oh, so many other things are going on but I just can't get into it right now. That is also why I haven't called any of you.....I am embarrased and disgusted with myself and I can't seem to talk to anyone that I know without crying.

I'm so sorry, Theresa!!! I wish there was something we could do to help. You've got all our prayers and hugs coming!!!

Had my mammo today and eveything looks good.

That's great news!

So what is everyones thoughts on the death of actor Corey Haim?

Sad that he was so young, but not suprised as he always struggled with drugs.

It made me a little sad as I always loved him as a kid/teenager. He's struggled so much though and had so many drug issues that I wasn't that surprised though.

Deb-on meds....I have seen a lot of kids (and grown ups) on the different meds available....most do fine on whatever med they are on once the appropriate dosage is figured out...Jim didn't do real well on any of them but he wasn't willing to work on the behaviour modification that goes along with the meds.

Good morning. :)

Lot's of :wizard: and :hug:s for everyone.

It's Friday!!

/
Morning!!!it's going to be a crazy Friday... Going to get my blood drawn then two big meetings at work--have a great day

Good morning, DDA! I have a lot more cleaning to do today, and then I leave this afternoon to pick up Matthew! :woohoo: :yay:

I've already used the Shop Vac to make sure there is no cat litter on the floor in the basement. It's supposed to rain this afternoon through Sunday, so I'm expecting water in the basement. Water plus scoopable cat litter equals a real big mess.

I think it's time to switch from the flannel sheets today, too, and I want to wash Matthew's sheets. Then I need to finish getting the craft closet stuff that's staying out of the living room and back into the closet. The floors all need a good mopping, since people are constantly tracking in road salt/sand. Guess I'd better get busy!

Deb -- there are lots of different meds out there and they react with kids in different ways. You might find one that won't help at all, but the good news is that these meds get lots of research money and have come a long way with fewer or no side effects. After being at a school for learning different kids for 9 years I've heard lots of stories. :rolleyes1 Since he doesn't seem to have the hyper part, he most likely will be able to take a smaller dose than other kids. There are even patches that can be worn instead of pills, though we've never gone that route. As Theresa said, finding the right dose makes a huge difference. We use the drugs that are XR, or extended release, so it slowly releases throughout the day, meaning one dose. (Though for Andrew, who does have the "h" part, he needs a small additional dose after lunch to be able to focus in the afternoon. Since Colby is so young his work isn't going to require quiet as much focus yet. As he gets older his dose will need to be adjusted to his tougher workload and change in weight.) It's also good timing as the teachers have had him for a while, so they know him well enough to help with feedback on what is working and what is not. We've always depended on the teachers for that advice, as it's hard to tell if it's working as we don't have them sitting still for most of the day concentrating on homework!

The "takeaway" from the doc visit sounds like with a little help from meds and some mods in school, he will do great as these kids may have a focus problem, but they are bright. I wasn't a big fan of meds at first, but when I saw what a difference it made in their confidence level and how quickly they started learning when on them, it became a no-brainer to us. Call or pm if you want more info. :goodvibes

Glynis -- thanks for asking about the family. I've been reading along periodically, but nothing real exciting to post. All of my boys are doing well! School is a challenge for Andrew with 2-3 hours of homework every night, plus some over the weekend. Throw in the sports that Andrew is playing at school (currently baseball) and it's driven me crazy this year. Jake decided (with some help from me!) that he will only play baseball this spring, instead of playing that and soccer. That helps some, but going between Dallas and Kaufman for the different sports is difficult. Randy is loving his job, so that is such a blessing too!

My PT is coming along beautifully and the mobility in my shoulder, while still hurting from time to time, is close to 95%. I think my arthritis is what is causing some of the problems now. We are still back at full salary at work, though it would be nice to get some of our benefits back that were dropped. At least I have a job! Between work and the kids, I'm running from 5 a.m. to helping Andrew finish up homework between 10-11 p.m. I'm really getting too old for this schedule!

Elizabeth -- sending lots of good thoughts and prayers to DS for school, and to you that that darn letter arrives tomorrow with the news you are hoping for.

Amy -- the pictures of Sammy with you and the kids that were posted on FB are precious! I hope last night went well and that you are able to get some rest.

Good morning, DDA!

Just wanted to send a big bucket of :wizard: to all of the DDA before we leave for Oklahoma.

We actually don't leave until tomorrow, but are planning to be out of the driveway at 6am. Today, I've got to go do all of my comp shopping for next week as I won't be back before it has to be transmitted. Wouldn't be too bad if we wouldn't keep having really big lists! It'll probably take up the middle half of my day. Yuck! Luckily, Mom did our laundry the other day as well so that is done. We've just got to get packed up and cleaned up a little. Looks like I may be the main driver so I'm also hoping to head to bed early tonight. Then next week...nothing! Well, something, but nothing crazy busy. I think we're heading to the aquarium in Tulsa one day, maybe the zoo another, but otherwise just hanging out with family and hitting a few favorite restaurants.

In case I don't make it back today, have a great weekend and week everyone!!!

Looks like the BBQ is going to have a big turnout, I can't wait!

I want to see lots and lots of picture, please! It will be so much fun for you all!

I hope the PT and the cortizone continue to increase your use of the shoulder, Debbie.

Marci - I am delighted to read that you all are doing fine. :goodvibes

I honestly think that one of the things that has drawn us and kept us all together on this board is how much we have in common. There are certainly lots of noticeable differences, but we all seem to be hard-working, take-charge women! And I think having each other to talk to really does enable us to be even better. We each need to find some spot in our lives that we can slow down a little. I think our families, but especially each of us, would benefit greatly. so says the one who can't seem to slow down even when I say I am... :rotfl:

Deb-good luck finding what works for Colby:wizard:

Beth-enjoy your time iwth Matthew! I'm not ready to give up my flannel sheets yet-it is still cold at night and early mornings!

Elizabeth-hope you get great news soon!:wizard:

I booked airfare for July!:cool1: I paid more than I wanted but still just under $300 each. I can get a credit with Jet Blue if the price drops and am happy with the flight time. Now it is real and I can get excited!!! Have to review park hours and such to book just a few meals. SOOOOOO very excited for the cookout!
