DDA Chapter 24

Tammi - Good luck on Monday! Do you think the school district will do that? It sounds like it would be a good solution. President's day is kind of an odd day off, anyway!
Honestyly, no I don't. Especially since they haven't made a decision on it yet, and it is Friday. If they were going to do that, they should have decided Wed or Thur to get the word out so people had time to change their plans. Turns out, even though we've missed 11 days of school, we only have 2 to make up. We have extra days built into our calendar year for this purpose.

ETA: I just checked the school website, and I was right. They will continue to have President's Day off.

Thank you! I've been fighting my director on this forever, and although I've lost with her, I'm glad to know that someone else finds it ridiculous. We follow the public school for closings and delays. If there is a one-hour delay, we also have a one-hour delay for the start (and end at the same time). Our class is only 2.5 hours long. With a one-hour delay, they start at 10:15 am and are dismissed at 11:45 am. We don't have that many delays during the school year, so I (and the other teachers) say we should just close the preschool for any public school delay/closing. We did convince her to close if the public school posts a 2-hour delay. As it is, it hasn't mattered to me at all, because we haven't had any closings or delays for that last few years on my class days.

When DS was in preschool the policy was:
If Dallas ISD is closed, they are closed. If Dallas ISD is on a delay, they are closed. I think this is only the third time in 8 years DISD has been closed, and I have NEVER seen them on a delay.
I really would NOT have been happy if I would have had to try to get Princess to school.

I feel bad for my bosses, but I am not sure what we can do. They have no power and there is a tree in the driveway. Momboss changed her flight to tomorrow (she probably wouldn't have made it out on the original flight anyway). I could send DH to get the girls and bring them over here, but not sure what we would do after that.

Good morning! We had snow all day yesterday, and when the alarm company for work called to say there was a problem with a signal around 1 a.m. (I'm sure the power went out) it was still snowing and 1 1/2 hours later when I finally got back to sleep, still snowing. Looks like we got around 12 inches here. I've never ever seen it more than 4, and that's probably only been maybe twice. Our satellite is out and has been since yesterday, and we lost power for a while this morning. The power is still out at work and our server is down, so Merrie closed the office today. Dad came to get us this morning to take us around town to see all the snow, and got stuck twice trying to get us out and we had to move several giant tree limbs. The roads around town that are traveled are fine, just slush now. Those poor guys at the electric company -- they are going to be out all day and probably all weekend from all the power lines that are down. There are also tree limbs broken in just about every house. The town drunk had a huge limb fall on her car, but she probably won't notice for a while, or won't care, as she's very wealthy.

I'm sure this has also created problems for the All-Star basketball game this weekend, and all the surrounding parties, as the airports cancelled lots of flights yesterday.

While I know this is MUCH less snow then everyone else has gotten, this has been an epic event for us!

I'll post some pics later.

Since this was his third day of no school, Hal went in anyhow. He has so much to catch up on. Lesson plans, report cards, and just general catching up. I plan to get dressed soon and go out and will then meet Stephanie for supper after she gets done with work.

Any recommendations for a good chapter book series for Alyssa? Something a little more challenging that Frannie K. or Magic Treehouse.
Sophie just started the Nancy Drew series & she loves them.

Waiting for the dealer to call me about how much my van is going to cost.

I'm trying to remember what they read at that age. Miles loved the Hank Zipzer series, and I know that Laura enjoyed a few, too. They came out as she was getting too old for them, but it didn't bother her that the main character was a boy. I'll ask Laura when she gets home.

I'm off to the 5th grade Valentine's ice cream party.

My van is fixed!:woohoo: There was a problem with a steering belt, they fixed it for no charge!:yay: We had taken it in for a full workup in November & apparantly this belt was covered under what they had worked on already. We did take a peek at the pre owed minivans but now (hopefully) we can put that off for another year or so!

Finally checking in. Another busy day. I was a sub this morning, then went to Colby's Valentine's Day party. I came home and tried to nap as I woke up with a sore throat and runny nose. Unfortunately the sore throat was bad enough that I couldn't fall asleep. Hunter got good news from his Doctor today. They will do an MRI in June and he won't need the contrast which means that they won't have to do an IV. He has been worried about that nonstop since we got home from surgery. With any luck all of his future MRIs will be without contrast and he will be totally happy to have them.

Anne Marie yea for your van being fixed!

Deb good to hear that Hunter will not have to worry about getting more IV's!

I am enjoying watching the opening ceremonies for the Olympics. Very sad about the young man who died this morning though :(

Good Morning,

We actually did get some snow yesterday, about 25 minutes worth that didn't stick

I have a boring day of housework and laundry planned, I do have a local DisMeet tonight though.

I need to go through all the stuff I've already purchased for the party and figure out exactly what I still need to get and make a new list. We've got bows to make for balloon bouquets and centerpieces.

Good morning. :)

Anne Marie - I'm so happy that your van is fixed, and free at that!

Deb - great news about Hunter.
