DDA Chapter 24

Everyone must be busy tonight. No posts in over 2 hours. :confused3

I do not do online check-in, just because. I don't have a REASON. Supposedly it shortens the time you wait to check in, but honestly, I never noticed a separate line at AKL. So theoretically it MIGHT shorten your time at the window once it is your turn.

In December we didn't do it because we wanted to use a different card than the one we had on file and I figured that would befuddle them.

Concierge check-in has a podium outside (by the Valet desk), but if you go to the Bell Desk inside they will call somebody to take you up for check-in. You bypass the line downstairs entirely, but you have to be escorted up since the 6th floor is key card access only.

There are only 5 concierge studios, so if you don't like the one they give you it is probably going to be tough cookies. ;)

We have a Value 1 bedroom for June. Since there are only 10 of those I imagine we will be in the same "tough cookie" boat for room location. :rotfl:
Thanks Elizabeth. So I should go to bell desk instead of podium outside?

When I was there last May I checked in at the podium outside and they had everything ready for me there-then they brought me up to my room. No lines at the podium and I didn't have to go check in at the concierge desk upstairs.

If you are already outside I would stop at the podium outside.
I was already inside because we were moving from savanna view to concierge. When I went to the Bell Desk they said "Oh, that's outside. But wait here and we'll get someone." So it probably goes faster if you go to the podium outside.

Bernadette - Did you do online check-in? Trying to figure out how you bypassed the desk upstairs?

Thanks Bernadette and Elizabeth.

Bernadette - how was your trip? How are you and your family doing? I've been thinking of you often.

No on line check in. They had everything waiting for me at the podium. The only thing I really remember was signing the thing about not feeding the animals. They must have verified my credit card info too. They had the whole packet with keys, parking pass, general info right there at the podium.

Then the guy took me up to the room-we didn't have too much luggage so he helped us and we took it up ourselves. I do remember that even though our room was very close to the main elevator he took us up the elevators closer to the pools. I was confused where the room actually was by the time we got there.:confused3

Hmm. I have no clue why we had to go to the desk. Unless maybe there is a different procedure for DVC vs. Lodge. Who knows. :confused3
When we stayed in a concierge room on the 4th floor (not DVC) the girl took us to the room first to make sure we liked it, then she took us to the desk upstairs to finish checking in.

Trip was good except I was worried about Emma at home and then I got sick there and then Joe got pneumonia when I was gone too. But things actually went pretty well on the trip. I still don't think I would ever go to WDW in December again unless our entire family went and it was a replacement for Christmas at home. It is just too stressful to travel that time of year-even though I had finished shopping before I went.

We had some really great meals on our trip! Went to the Coral Reef for the first time and really enjoyed it. Also went to Flying Fish for the first time and other than the screamer that was there we had an excellent meal there!

The loss of my brother has been very difficult.:sad1: There were huge crowds at the wake and funeral which didn't surprise me as he really was the type of guy that everyone loved. His 29 year old daughter did an awesome job on the eulogy. I don't know how she did it.

I thought I would be OK if I could get through the wake and funeral but I went to work on the Monday after and said I just couldn't do it. I took that week of Christmas off and then just kept myself busy making lots of gifts. I made my 3 kids plus Lizzy's best friend all PJ pants with appliqued T's, made the kids' teachers all lanyards, made my mother in law a fleece shawl, made Joe & Emma name pillows, made Lizzy & Emma I Spy pillows, made crayons using a soap mold and melting down old crayon pieces, and made myself a quilt.

It was really hard to prepare for Christmas but Christmas day was nice. We stayed home. My MIL & SIL came early and then my sister and 17 year old niece came later in the day. My SIL gave us a Wii which we've been enjoying. That was supposed to be a family gift but then she gave Lizzy a Sony digital camera, Joe a Sony camcorder (she says he's outgrown his flip), Emma a near life size stuffed Husky puppy(plus a huge sticker book and husky book), Gene a German pruning pole with interchangable blades and warming mat for starting seeds and she gave me the coolest little Sony printer. It is NOT inkjet so it makes lab quality prints-just 4x6. It lets you print out scrapbook images, put text on the prints or borders or print out calendars. It is really cool!!!

Gene did a great job this year (after the toilet seat last year). He got me a bigger gorilla pod for my camera, a book on Disney dining, a book on the Haunted Mansion, an Orlando map, extended my XM Radio, and a Blu ray player. We are all in shock over how clear the blu ray player is!

Right now I am still sick since Disney. It is getting really old. Not sick enough that I want to go see a doctor but sick enough to be exhausted and cranky. I started taking Mucinex Monday and it does seem to be helping to break it up. I just have to get over this before my next trip-3 weeks from today!:scared1:

Joe had a followup visit for his pneumonia last week and was fine. They gave him the flu & swine flu shots. Emma had another xray yesterday as a followup to her pneumonia and we have an appointment for her to get her flu shots tomorrow. Hopefully that will be just in time to kick in before our trip. Lizzy had the swine flu mist before our trip but hasn't gotten the regular flu shot. Gene & I got the regular flu shot at my office a while ago.

I uploaded all 500 photos yesterday and have about 140 of them in an album on facebook. Today I hope to get a good start on my TR here on the DIS. I will let you all know when it is up.

I hope you feel better soon, Bernadette.

Wow Bernadette. I'm exhausted just reading all of that. You all got some great presents this year. I'm sorry you are still not feeling well. :wizard:

Bernadette - Sounds like your Christmas was good. I hope you can kick the sickies soon!

Jennifer - How are Olivia and Virginia?

It's a horrible snowy morning, here. It's been snowing since 10:00 yesterday morning. We've got quite an accumulation of snow. Makes me want to snuggle in my jammies all day long. Unfortunately, I need to run to the grocery store at some point. Good thing Alan's car has 4 wheel drive!

Have a great day, everyone!

Olivia says her throat feels better. Virginia not so sure. She is still very whiney. Jeff is on the way to the Dr now as he stayed home yesterday as he said he was not feeling well.
Thanks for asking.
