DDA Chapter 24

Deb,
I hope the reduction of meds helps. That must have been so scary to see him acting & talking like that.

Great, Katie is failing Spanish!:headache: This is with the teacher who had the class dance Thriller. Katie got off to such a bad start & she just can't get back on track.:sad2: All of her other grades are A's & some B's so I just cannot figure out what to do. They have a tutoring session at lunch today so i told her she HAD to go. She just does not get it that she'll have to go to summer school & take spanish again if she fails...Teenage girls can be so unreasonable!!!
Is a language mandatory for her? Can she repeat the class next year instead of summer school?

Christoper has Spanish issues as well. As a mater of fact when the teacher first met him she said, "Oh great, another Ryer" Thinking he was like Jackie....little did she know! :sad2: Right now he is at a C-(and dangerously close to a D)......he is a classic underachiever. So odd given the academic driven personalities of the other 3.

Is a language mandatory for her? Can she repeat the class next year instead of summer school?
It is considered an elective so no. I am going to speak with her guidance counselor at school & see what alternatives there are if she fails. She will be entering HS next fall so I am not sure they handle that coming from the MS.

Kristine,
I love your new family picture.

Thanks! :)

I am conflicted as to what to do with the whole foreign language thing. Here is it is mandatory in 6th grade...elective 7th & 8th.

Both Jonathan & Jackie had several years under their belt when they went to HS...and then ended up in AP.

Fast forward....so Jonathan met all foreign language criteria for college...which was great! We are grooming Jackie for the same. Clearly I need a new plan for Christopher

Kristine,
I love your new family picture.

Glynis-I will look up the cinammon roll recipe....maybe I will surprise everybody and have them ready for Christmas morning:confused3. Are you going to visit your new nephew....is that why you are going to New York?

If anybody knows where I can find my Christmas spirit please tell me. It's starting to affect my girls.

You so should make the cinnamon rolls. You could get them all made, and in the pans, then put them in the fridge overnight. Just pull them out the next morning for the last rise, then cook them, make the icing, and serve them piping hot, with a mug of hot chocolate or cider!

Yes, Dad and I are flying to meet Paxton! Dad wanted to go, but didn't want to fly alone, and my SIL asked if I could come and help her figure out being at home with a newborn, so hooray for me!!!

As for your Christmas spirit, make the cinnamon rolls tonight, and the smell will lift your spirits immensely! Seriously! I've been in a real funk, and the smell from those heavenly rolls lifted my spirits, along with all my grumpy kids! So worth the work!!! Good luck, sweetie!!!

Any chance you can do a copy/paste for me on here. I tried to pull it up but my work computer won't let me in. I'm going by the grocery store on the way home tonight.

I'm so sorry I didn't see this until now! Here's a copy of the recipe that I halved:

Ingredients:
_2 C whole milk
_1/2 C vegetable oil
_1/2 C sugar
_1 tbsp active dry yeast
_4 C flour
_1/2 C flour
_1/2 heaping tsp baking powder
_1/2 scant tsp baking soda
_1/2 tbsp salt
Filling:
_1 C melted butter
_3/4 C sugar
_1/2 C cinnamon (or more depending on preference)
Frosting:
_1/2 bag powdered sugar
_1/4 C milk
_1 tsp vanilla or maple flavoring
_2 tbsp melted butter
_pinch of salt
Mix whole milk, vegetable oil and sugar in a pan. Scald to 150 degrees. Let cool until lukewarm. Sprinkle in yeast and let sit. Then add 4 C flour, stir mixture together. Cover and let sit for one hour. Add 1/2 C flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Stir mixture together.
Sprinkle surface generously with flour and form into a rectangle, roll the dough thin, maintaining a rectangular shape. Drizzle melted butter over dough. Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon. Roll the dough toward you. Pinch the seam to seal it. Grease foil cake or pie pans. Cut rolls 3/4 to 1 inch thick and lay in greased pans. Cover the rolls and let sit for 30 minutes. Bake at 400 for 15 to 18 minutes.
Combine all frosting ingredients in a bowl and mix thoroughly. Generously drizzle frosting over warm rolls after they come out of the oven.

Be prepared for a goopy mess when you pour the melted butter over everything and then try to roll the dough up. I plan on making them again, only not melting the butter. I'm going to let it get really soft, and then spread it over the dough. Hopefully that will work.

Speaking of photos...I was amazed by the lack of photopass people in the parks towards the end of the trip...there were some days...we saw maybe 1 :confused3

The few pics we did get...stink!

Kristine I love you new photo too.

I noticed that too in October...I don't think we'll do photopass again for that reason & that most of the pictures Don't come out any better than the ones with my camera. The only advantage to photopass are the "fun" shots but those alone are not worth the price.

2 weeks from today we will be at Disney!!! This is our very first stay off property. Gasp! I am a bit of a resort snob (ask Chanon!:lmao:) so I am interested to see how this works for us.

if they would drop the price in half...I'd order it just to order it. But the going price they have for lousy pics seems silly

Sorry to hear that! We ended up with about 500 pictures, but the photographers snap away with the little ones interacting with the characters. I can't say they're fantastic, but having so many pictures of our entire family (since Kevin is usually our photographer) is worth the price to me.

Theresa, wishing you the best on this lastest interview! :wizard:

Deb, continued prayers for Hunter! I hope the adjustment of his meds improve things a bit.

Happy belated birthdays to Nicholas and Andrew!

Good luck with the snow in Texas! I remember the January we moved to Baytown, the city was freaking out over a little accumulation and we were pretty confused!

Glynis, how awesome that you and your dad get to take a trip to see the baby!

Wishing magical Disney trips to early December group!

Have a good night DDA! :wave2:

What level Spanish is it? Will the teacher tell you what areas the issues are in? Is there another student in a more advanced level who she could work with? Although the language may be an elective at the school some colleges require you take a foreign language or sign language as an entrance requirement.

Deb- More hugs and good thoughts your way. Just keep an eye on him as some of those meds can make people do weird things due to side effects. I got Celebrations Magazine today and your family is in it.:thumbsup2

Theresa- I hope this is the job for you!

Tia- My Dad was told to take it easy and avoid seeds, nuts, anything that could get stuck in the small pouches that develop due to the diverticulitis. His first bout he was diagnosed right before our cruise in Aug 2008. Then he ended in the ER the day we were to leave for the cruise since he was worse. He felt much better about a day later, so they decided they were flying to CA, he overdid with the flight and the travel that he ended up worse, not going on the cruise and was contemplating going to the ER in CA but did not. He took it very easy and was better from that bout in about a week and a half.

Glynis-The cinnamon buns sound good. What part of NY are you heading to and when and for how long?

Kristine- Great signature picture.

Hi Vicki hope you are doing well!

Amy-good to see you.

I need to head to bed. Night all!

Everyone traveling soon have a great trip!

Sorry to cheat, but ditto!

I'm almost all packed. Trying to figure out what else I need.

Tia... Dream Catcher is my locker. It will be delivered to CSR today! YAy!

I'll be in Disney in less than 12 hours. I better get some sleep! Nite all. See you there!:dance3::dance3::dance3:
