Good morning, DDA!

Trying to break my unintentional computer hiatus today. I know I missed some, but I can't even remember where I left off.

Deb - Our prayers continue for you all. I hope the doctor can get things moving on meds quickly. Poor Hunter, I can't even imagine how worried he is right now. all around!

Anne Marie - Glad you and Sophie had a great time!

Marci - Have a good day at school today. I'm glad you dad goes happily now. I know if must mean everything to the boys.

Vicki - I think the limited view friend is a good option for your adopted brother. Good luck with the decision, either way.

Gotta a Santa question for you all. (not for little eyes)














Do you always give your child a gift from you as well as Santa or are all the gifts from Santa?

The reason I ask is since my kids all are getting that 1 big expensive gift from Santa (which looks pretty small under the tree) I supplimented with clothes & books in big boxes so it looks like alot when they actually come down Christmas morning.....well I was hoping they will think the trip to Disney a few days before Christmas would be their present but I am not sure if the 2 younger ones would be dissapointed not seeing something from mom & dad.

Santa has already started wrapping so if i decided to make the clothes from us then I would have to re wrap those so its not the same paper as Santas.

So, what do you all do?

Santa has always just brought one present to our house (and I still save one present that goes under the tree after they go to bed). He can only give us one present....think of all of the kids who don't have so many grandmas and grandpas to give them presents.

Terra and Kassie have both been asking a lot of questions. I think we can talk them through at least one more year, but I'm sure the days are numbered. Too many kids, especially at both churches, taking against him.

That's how ours has always worked. The one mainly asked for gift is from Santa - sometimes it's the most expensive, this year not so much as she really wants him to bring the talking toucan from Cracker Barrel (about $15). The rest is from us and wrapped.

Well, Terra is begging for me to bring her the next bit of work so who am I to pass up that opportunity. She also begged to mark 10 our of 15 chores for the next two days as ones that she would help with. I figured maybe 5, but if she wants to do 10, then by all means. So with that, the post-dance class/lunch break is over. Back to work I go!

Our Santa ritual........maybe this is just a southern thing but our stockings would be full of goodies and then Santa would leave our presents out for us to see. Before we went to bed at night we would lay our stockings out either on the couch, love seat or chair where we wanted Santa to leave our presents. The next morning the presents would be layed out.....displayed not wrapped....the the stocking would be returned to the mantel and hanging up fill of stuff.

The boys always know they will get from us......a pair of PJ's, DVD movie, new ornament. We always open those on Christmas Eve. It helps to have all clean, new PJ's for pictures the next morning.

That's how we do it. But I know everyone is different.

Anne Marie-I usually give my kids PJ's wrapped from me on Christmas eve but this year the last thing any of them need is PJ's-not enough room in their drawers. I'm thinking I'll get them ornaments instead. Then on Christmas day I usually have a book for each kid to them and Gene. I just can't come up with ideas for kid/dad books this year. I don't know if I will wrap a book to them from me or not. EVERYTHING else comes from Santa unwrapped.

I must be off because I almost wish the gig was up with Santa. I know I was in the first grade. I was thinking Lizzy was catching on but then Sunday she asked me if the Tink in the "magic" shots from photopass was real. How could she think that was real? I guess she believed me when I would say "Oooo, I felt her" after they'd take the photo. I wonder if seeing the world Santas at Epcot will bring questions.

I think your kids are old enough to understand that a trip to Disney is part of their gift from you.

Quick Santa / Disney story:

The boys were probably around 4yr and 7yr. We were going to Disney the week after Christmas....just like this year. We told the boys to ask for Disney tickets and maybe we could go. It was their first trip to Disney. BUT....I told them I had heard from other mom's that if Santa's leaves a Disney ticket in your stocking you only get 2 or 3 toys from Santa. Austin said that he didn't care because he really wanted to go to Disney.

Christmas morning....the boys go running into the family room and Austin stood there and looked at his 3 toys.....then turned and ran to the mantel to pull his stocking down. He turned it upside down and dumped it all out. When I asked him what he was doing he said, "I only have 3 toys from Santa so there better be a Disney ticket in here." I laughed so hard and of course didn't have the camcorder going so I missed it. But I will never forget it!!!

Now they are 12 & 15 and this is the 3rd time we have done the Disney trip the week after Christmas. They know to only ask for 2 or 3 gifts since they are wanting a Disney ticket in their stocking. Thank goodness they are both asking for lacrosse equipment. That's a good thing since the season starts up in Febuary and I was going to have to purchase it anyway.

That is about what we do only the stockings are hanging on the fireplace empty on Christmas eve and then are filled with all their gifts ona chair or couch the next morning so you know who's pile is who's.

I might have to rethink the PJ thing. I really hate to break the tradition!
