I played cello in middle school and LOVED it. I had no interest in band. I wanted DS to play a string but he refused. Percussion.And he loves it. Visions of marching band dance in his head and all that sort of thing. If he LOVES orchestra let him stay in that. If not, see if he wants to try something else.
Let Miles choose. If the rental fee for another instrument is prohibitive then have a heart to heart with him and find out what he wants to do.
The only thing I have been successful at pushing with DS is Theater classes. He balks, but he really does LIKE those classes, so when he balks I ignore him. With other stuff, when he says NO, he means NO, and if I push he is a complete snark every step of the way.
Beth - If Miles is already happy with one instrument, I would let it alone. At this point children usually start to come to the parent asking to add another instrument. Not the other way around. As for dropping the other two extra activities... if there is a good reason for it, I would not worry any further. If he seems to be looking for things to do as the school year gets going, you can always add something but I wouldn't push it now. Just my opinion!

Yikes! Poor Richie and you! Do they pay him overtime? Not that it is worth the money to work those kind of hours. If they don't pay him overtime I don't know how legal that is. There are laws about who has to get paid overtime. My husband used to work at a garden center. He worked liked six 12 hour days in the summer and then the owner had a snow plow business in the winter and ended up working more than 40 hours most weeks then too. He got paid for 40 hours because they said they would pay him for 40 hours all year long. They were shocked when he quit-they are lucky he didn't listen to me and call the labor board as what they were doing wasn't legal. Then he went to work someplace that paid him for 40 hours in a check and the "overtime" in cash-but not at time & a half. DH hated that because that isn't legal. Can Richie just tell them he can't/won't continue to work those hours? Hope he can find some way to stop this madness!

Yes she does. Here, as long as you have a note from your doctor sent to the nurse, along with the meds., the nurse will administer the meds (prescription or OTC). The meds are kept in the nurse's office, ahem, CLINIC, as it is now called. So if one of my kids has a headache, they can go to her and she will give them a motrin and let them lie down for awhile.Tammi - I don't know what the medication policies are here. I think probably if your child requires OTC meds you would have to come administer them yourself. The kids can be suspended/expelled if they are carrying OTC meds. I will tell you my prescription ibuprofen says IB800 but it doesn't come in any sort of factory sealed bottle. That nurse just likes to irritate you.
