DDA chapter 21

Yesterday, we had a mini DDA meet at IKEA! :cool1:

Tom, Angie, and Leighanna drove down and met Jennifer, Avery, Elise, Alyssa, Matty, Noah, and me for lunch. Speaking on behalf of the group, we all enjoyed ourselves and the antics of the children, and then Tom's family went off to explore, Jen took the girls home to continue to tackle birthday party preparations, and after a long walk, I managed to finally find the exit (thank goodness for those big floor arrows).

Pictures were taken. I snapped a few before lunch, but you know what a slacker I am about getting anything posted in a timely manner. ;) Jen took some group shots at the end, but cut her some slack, because there's a big celebration on Saturday! :)

Hope everyone is having a great week! Off to swim lessons...

so what's you new pet's name??? ;)

"The Kitten Who is Leaving Soon"

Thanks, Elizabeth! I am mostly over it...I guess I just needed to get it out. We have an extra $1.50, and Miles is normal weight, so it isn't the end of the world in any matter. I do feel bad for the families that $1.50 means a lot more to, and there are plenty in our elementary school. For not much more than that you can get enough ice cream to get the whole family a treat at the store. (Of course, now all the ice creams are downsizing again from 1.75 quarts to 1.5 quarts for the same price. I remember when the standard was a half gallon...yep, I'm turning into a mean, or maybe just cynical, old lady :rotfl:)

Thanks also for the offer of the kitten, but our two kitties probably wouldn't be particularly welcoming to a cute, young thing. They are turning into grumpy, old men. (Maybe it's something in the air or water? :rotfl:)

 Hi, MG61218!

Our cats are VERY VERY interested in that thing shrieking in the bathroom. The rescue group doesn't have any foster slots right now, so my best guess is that there will be a shrieking kitten in my bathroom all weekend. It will cost $47 for the vet to look at the kitten to make sure it doesn't have parasites or something else that would hurt our cats. :sad2: DH is in so much trouble. I think the nice police officer in the next building might need a cat. I will have to go ask him. :rolleyes1

At our school I think they jack up the price of everything to subsidize the kids who can't pay.

Welcome, MG61218!

Beth...

around here they have been absolutely nuts collecting money. $25 per kid for end of year teacher gifts.....there $75 gone. At least another $30 per kid for other misc. c r a p. Annoys me :confused3

Yes, it is the time of year for that, isn't it? Also, coaches gifts, etc. Each individual request may not seem like much to the requester, but when you start multiplying by number of kids and number of requests, it gets crazy.

Happy Birthday, Becky!! Hope it's a good day!!

If anybody is on I would appreciate help....with the rash I want to try and cover up plus I don't really want to wear pantyhose (where it will bind at the itchiest spot) so I am wondering for a greeter/receptionist position at a car dealership interview is a mock turtleneck and pin striped slacks okay?

do you have a suit jacket/blazer to wear with this?

Sorry, Beth!
Want me to send you a kitten?

:rotfl::rotfl:

so what's you new pet's name??? ;)

:rotfl::rotfl:

my vote is to name him/her either coal or midnight ;)

And before you offer we do not need another cat either. I'm sure our very sickly cat would be put off by a kitten appearing. My kids would be thrilled, but me not so much :rolleyes1

What is the temp in your area? If it is warm a mock turtle neck might look strange. A high collared blouse or maybe a blouse and scarf? The pinstriped pants should be fine though.

it's cold and rainy....and a short sleeved mock....I think I will wear my black blazer on top to finish it off (thanks Kristine!!)

My day is over half over  I survived the 7th grade class trip. It was pretty cold out so there wasn't much swimming happening so I only actually guarded for maybe an hour over the course of the 3 1/2 hours that I was there. Now if I can survive one more job today then the rest of the week will be a breeze. I'll be glad when school is out for the summer, all these extra activities will come to an end :thumbsup2

I'm glad that you got great advice. I, unfortunately, am the definition of "what not to wear". Some day (when I'm thinner and if I ever feel confident enough) I need someone to go shopping with me and pick out my clothes and shoes.

Lots and lots of pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BECKY!!!!!

I'm sitting here wondering what today will bring. Nick was complaining of a tummy and headache most of the day yesterday. I know that he wants to go to school today since it is their trip, but will he be feeling up to it? Hunter also had a tummy ache at bedtime.

Apparently the boys were playing with water balloons on Monday at my parent's house. Nick put a balloon filled with water in his mouth and it popped. The water rush caused him to swallow the balloon. Now he is worried that it is stuck inside him :confused3 He didn't mention this until yesterday :headache: I don't think that it actually has anything to do with him not feeling well, but I'm letting him sweat it out because 13 year olds should know better than to put object in their mouths  It's not like we haven't told them a million times that you can choke on balloons.
Hope the boys are feeling better. :scared1:Yikes about the balloon!

I think I'm turning into a mean, old lady.

Miles came home with a notice that the elementary school is having an ice cream truck come up on the second to last day of school during the lunch periods. If we want our child to have the opportunity to buy an ice cream cone, we need to send in $1.50 by next Friday. It seems that there have been so many "treats" at school lately, and we've also been nickeled and dimed recently. The kids can buy packaged ice cream and treats any day at lunch. I think that the most expensive of those items is $1.00.

The PTA had an ice cream social this past Tuesday in conjunction with an art show. It was an evening event, and the ice cream sundaes were free.

Today the 3rd-5th graders went to a local minor league baseball game. Tickets were $3 each. If your child wanted to buy "lunch" (hot dog, chips, soda) at the stadium, it was an additional $3. They were told that they could bring up to $20 for additional snacks.

Tonight is a "Math Night" up at the school. This is also free, but there is mention of refreshments. I doubt it will be fruit and veggies, but we'll see.

All grade levels have had another field trip in the last few weeks. The fourth graders went to a science center and hour and a half from here yesterday. That was no cost to us, and we packed lunch. The school did find it necessary to send home a note to remind us that we should pack a healthy lunch.

The week of May 18th, the school celebrated it's 40th birthday with treats (including ice cream one day and cupcakes another) and time out of class for special events all week long. Also, we needed to send in a white t-shirt for tie-dying (that has never come home).

The fourth grade is having a kickball tournament (during class time, not gym time). We needed to send in a yellow shirt. (Which I had to buy, since Miles did not own any yellow shirts.)

Monday is field days.

I know that I'm being petty, and I'll get over it. If I decided to take my kid out of school for a baseball game, though, it would be an illegal absence. Every time you turn around, you hear warnings about childhood obesity and being told to make sure you feed your kids healthy meals, and then the school supplies treat after treat after treat (half of which you have to pay for).
:hug:I'm mean & old too. A professional photographer took photos of the kids in Emma's class to make a book for the teacher. Emma's picture isn't very good (I know she can be tough to photograph....). She send us all a link to the book in case we want to buy a copy for ourselves. She's using some service I've never heard of and it is $35 for a softcover book. I guess I won't have to hear Joe & Lizzy complain that they don't have one cause I won't be buying one for Emma either.....Then what really got me and shouldn't have is that of course the room mothers' kids are first........

Just wanted to stop by and tell everyone good morning. I'm on here everyday but I don't post much. Just wanted to say hope everyone has a good day!!

You are too nice Elizabeth!

How fun! We want photos!!!! Where did that year go?????

If you take his/her photo I think you have to keep it!

:wizard:Good luck!!!!:wizard:

Becky - Happy Birthday!!!!!

Elizabeth - Let that kitty come out and play!

Welcome to the new person!

Here is a clip of Alyssa's show, if you care to see it. She is obviously confused and and upset with herself for all of her mistakes. I think the dance is going to look horrible come the show on Sunday.
