Thanks!! I need to do something to cut back on the daycare but I can't just stop. So while I am not "advertising" the website is just a way to display what I've done. I hope to bring in some extra $ by word of mouth. I am going to take some more cake classes over the summer in hopes of working in a local cake shop come fall.

I wish you lots of luck..the cakes you have showed us have been fabulous!!!

We're back from Pinewood Derby. Jacob didn't win, but he had a great time! He's such a good sport, it makes me so proud of him!

I had a small panic attack this morning due to the swine flu. I think we're all entitled to feel nervous about this thing. I went through our emergency supplies, and we are looking in good shape. When I went shopping today, I stocked up on Immodium, toilet paper, Gatorade and Pedialyte. I also picked up the new anti-viral tissues that Kleenex makes.

We are all set for emergency food and water. We have enough in the house to last us a good 9-10 months if we're careful.

I think that going through all of that, and really seeing that I'm doing all that I can to make the situation as "normal" as possible for my family made me feel much better.

Alan spoke to our doctor, and will be going to get a pneumonia shot tomorrow. With his weak lungs, I've been worried about what a bout with the flu would do to him. He's going to speak to the doctor about Leslie, since she has inherited his weak lungs. After all of that, we've got to just use common sense and try not to get too overwhelmed.

It sounds like you are doing everything right

The more I think about this swine flu, the more confused I get. Ok, so it originates from pigs. Usually it is a pig to pig virus, but then people catch it. It transmits from person to person. People get sick. The symptoms are the same as influenza. Every winter we have hundreds of kids out sick from CONTAGIOUS influenza. Life, school, etc. go on as normal, with several kids missing. ONE PERSON, out of millions, gets the swine flu and the world comes to a screeching halt! What am I missing?????

As I understand it: It is a mutant strain that is a combination of a pig virus and a bird virus. It is changing as it infects humans and they are not certain just how it will continue to mutate. It is highly contagious so therefore they are thinking that illness and fatalities will be higher just simply because of the number of people who will contract it. It has flu-like symptoms (fever, body aches, etc) but also carries vomiting and diarrhea which poses the secondary problem of dehydration. I think as long as people are healthy (right now, at least) there is little harm from the virus as it is in its present state. If the immune systems are already compromised or endangered by things such as age (both oldsters as well as wee ones) or preexisting conditions there is a higher risk of severity.

So says this layman, anyway.

I think Elin hit alot of key points, The one point that I've heard that she didn't mention is that most adults have had the flu enough times to have a bit of a built up immunity, but this new outbreak is a totally new beast, part bird flu, part pig flu and now human flu. Since it is new there is absolutely no one that has any immunity to it which means that everyone, no matter what the age is at risk to contract it. As Elin mentioned it isn't the flu itself that kills, but the effect or side effect such as dehydration and pneumonia, bonchitis, etc.

I was hoping to get tickets for the 10/29 MNSSHP but that date seems to have become unavailable. Thought it might be better to go before Halloween but now there is no choice so looks like we will be going on 10/31. It will cost us $320 to go on Halloween night. I am not sure I want to pay that & don't think that Dana will like that too much.

I agree with you Glynis! Hang it there! Knowing you have family members who are more susceptible to illness is obviously scary.

Obviously, I did not let Noah play any games at Chuck E. Cheese. He was happy to sit in the stroller with his Cheerios.

Now that Alan is immunized for pneumonia, I feel much better. Our kids know to wash their hands (while they sing "row, row, row your boat" twice) with hot water, and to use hand sanitizer when they can't wash. I do get concerned about the baby, since he's at the stage where everything goes into his mouth. However, I can't put him in a bubble, so I just have to be vigilant. I have decided not to be a nervous Nellie about this anymore, but to live as "normally" as possible.

I have to bake for our synchronized swimming bake sale tomorrow. Anyone have any good suggestions? I was thinking cute cupcakes might sell well or maybe something not sweet. I can't seem to get motivated here.

If you're not too concerned about peanut allergies, here's something I like to do. I make a batch of peanut butter cookies, then spread grape jelly in between 2 cooled cookies. You can also do chocolate frosting between 2 cookies.

I did these for our school carnival last year, and they were a big hit. As long as you label them very clearly, you should be ok.

I'm not panicking about the Swine flu, but I have purchased extra purell, clorox wipes and lysol for our trip, thank goodness we're driving so bringing extra stuff won't be an issue.

With my asthma I have a really hard time with respiratory illnesses anyway.

I know everyone loves the hand sanitizer and don't want to upset you.
However my sister was watching a doctor show and he said that the hand sanitizer does not work and its an accident waiting to happen, he calls it sterno in a bottle. Also said that airlines won't let certain item but allows the hand sanitizer and a couple squirts of that and a match and it would get out of control very fast.

So during the chemical stress tests, my mother's heart stopped!! After performing chest compressions they got it restarted. Thankfully they got enough data for the test. They also beleive she may have diabetes. So waiting for those tests as well. I am heading over shortly.

I had a procedure on my finger today...I have a cyst that has been causing pain...they shoved in the world's largest needle. I actually yelled and had to restrain from smacking the doctor. Unfortunately he recommends surgery to remove it as he thinks aspiration will not be successful.

And in other news....Bill has decided to have double knee replacement. Consult is on the 13th. He is in so much pain he is almost handicapped by it. So it is definitely time.

Wow, double knee surgery. Will they do both at once? We have several people that come in to swim as they are recovering from knee surgery, but only one knee. How's Bill's finger?

Both knees....they recommend it as most patients after doing one won't come back for the second one. I'm sure the pain is terrible. Finger is better for him

And...apparently my mother had an allergy to a chemical used in the stress tests...this is what caused the heart to stop. She had several odd allergies. Good news...the heart is ok

We are staying in Paramus and the concert is at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck. I remember you telling me that this was about an hour or more from you so I didn't pursue it any further. I arrive tomorrow morning about 10:15 and leave Monday about 10:30 with lots of stuff going on in between. The concert isn't until 4:00 on Sunday so I figured even if you had chosen to come to that it would have been really late Sunday before you could get back home.

So... I figured it was not going to work out this time.

I wa s thinking the same thing. A friend of mine works in a hospital and the ER is a SIX hour wait with people waiting in the rain!
