I read about all of the difficulties that you are all facing and beating and I find myself inspired by all of our combined strength. If I can help any of you in any way please do not hesitate to ask. I know that you are strong alone, but together we are stronger, unbeatable.

Can I just say how much I love Hal????

This afternoon at work, I was starting to smell a weird odor and could not figure what it was. Stephanie remembered they were starting to redo the floor in the gym. She was leaving to go home and was coughing up a storm and I had about 45 minutes to go. So far she is okay.
My co-worker told me to leave and she would close up at about 15 minutes to close. By then the migraine was starting and I was sick to my stomach. I managed to get home and immediately changed into my pjs and went to sleep on the recliner. The next thing I heard was Hal getting supper ready, emptying the dishwasher and just generally cleaning up. He brought me supper and I was able to eat a little. I am feeling better now but am apprehensive about going in tomorrow. The workers will be here all week and apparently the smell gets worse when they paint the floor.

I really hate that I get migraines from smells. It is very frustrating that I can be sick so fast and cannot control any of it. But at least Hal is understanding about it all. :goodvibes:love:
Hope you were able to avoid the fumes today!

Those are great! I really love the ones of your kids with your parents.

The neuropsychologist from the children's hospital e-mailed me back - he is going to try to call me today or tomorrow. He said if I don't hear from him that I am welcome to call and see if I can catch him between appointments. So that's a good thing.
:wizard:

Congrats on the new laptop, Bernadette.
Thanks!

Happy Birthday to Matthew!!!!

So I have a question for you all....I am a big believer in you are given situations that will teach you....

What exactly am I learning from the last year??
Well, I certainly think better things are in store for you and I think it will be easier to see the good that comes out of this when that day comes. I hope that day is very soon!!!!

Marci is recovering from having a bone spur removed from her shoulder.
:scared1:YIKES! Shoulders problems are so bad because you can't escape it. Lying down doesn't always make the pain go away. I hope she heals quickly.:wizard:

It looks like my coworker's boyfriend has lung cancer.:sad2: I think he's in his 40's. They have him sedated, on a ventilator, and on a rocking bed to try to clear his lungs of the pneumonia. My heart really aches for her.

There's no point in yanking him out of band and/or theater until we know what the problem is. A SUDDEN drop in grades is indicative of a problem. Until I know with 100% certainty what the problem is, I'm not taking him out of the only things he enjoys. If he was just being defiant or lazy then yes, I would revoke his extracurriculars.

He says over and over again that he doesn't know what the problem is. If that is true (and it may or may not be) then that means this is not something he is doing intentionally and that it is not something that can be fixed by punishing him. I can think of about 8 or 10 separate factors that could all be part of this, and I have no accurate way of determining what is and what is not important. The neuropsychologist knows I am waiting for his call, but I suspect the call will be lengthy so I am happy that he is waiting until he has more than a minute to discuss things.

I can imagine that without knowing all of the intricacies of the situation, allowing DS to remain part of his activities could be viewed as being excessively permissive.

You know your DS best:hug::hug:

I don't know how many of you knew that the Challenge studios (for Food Network) are just up the road from us. Anyway the "Last Cake Standing" this week is doing an elopement wedding cake and it's funny to see them "hailing" cabs in Downtown Denver....you really can't just hail cabs.....I am sure they had the cabs following them because they were from the same company.

Hi all,

Well, what a day. The traffic was horrible and it was rainy and Guenna was not sure if they would make it. They did manage to get there on time. They went to the Eisenhower building which is next to the White House. They could not take any pictures but a staff photographer was there. Our local news team did put a picture on and a phone interview while broadcasting the event. They even made the nightly news.:cool1:

Chris is right behind the Pres in this pic and then Guenna.

Guenna said Obama remembered her and she was able to give him the letter from Nick and his class and he took the time to read it and there were pictures taken by the staff photog who will get copies to them.
They left right after since they were so tired but ended up having trouble with the car, so they just got home and are exhausted.

You are learning that you have a bigger backbone than you knew you did. We here on the DIS are here for you always.:hug:

Oh no. Didn't you say her last boyfriend passed away :hug:

I didn't mean to insinuate that you are being too permissive. I'm sorry if it came off that way. That is just how we have had to deal with our boys having grades dropping, but there was not any other factors involved here. i have a bunch of probably too strict rules here. Like if you stay home sick from school you MUST take a nap. That one tends to stop the kids from making up illnesses. My DH reminded me this evening that I am not the typical Mom and I guess this is another one of my quirks. You know your son best. I also understand your frustration with him saying that he doesn't know what the problem is. Hunter did the same thing for 2 months, then suddenly it just came to him. We can't even get him an appointment for therapy or a med eval until June. June makes no sense as school is a contributory factor and we will be heading into summer. I will probably make an appointment for early October that way we can be prepared for what might come next year. If all is okay I can cancel, if not we can proceed.

Wow, that is very impressive. I'm sure this is a day they will never forget.

Tammi I meant to comment earlier that I loved your Easter pictures. It is nice to see that people still get dressed up and celebrate the religious side of Easter and not just the Bunny side of things :thumbsup2

It was okay at work today. Thankfully I did not smell anything until about 4pm. Not sure what tomorrow or Friday will bring.

We are finally in for the night. All 4 of my boys are thoroughly enjoying Lacrosse. I snuck away and saw my neice's play. They performed the Emporers' New Clothes. They did an excellent job, I actually liked it much better than the play the boys did tech crew for, which was the older grades. She looked really cute with her hair all curled. I didn't have my camera so I don't have any photos :sad2:

SIL is going to go to Six Flags with us. She is taking my neice and nephew. That means there will be 10 of us. Colby is happy as Logan is now his "friend" for the trip. Having 10 will give everyone a ride buddy too.

Terry-that was way cool!! I am glad the fumes weren't around all day.

Deb-I understand what you answered in response to my question but because of the "other" stuff going on that I don't tell most people about I don't think that's what I am learning....maybe I am learning that I don't kill easy. :rotfl:

I did our taxes....we ain't getting nothing and we don't have to give anything to the national government but I will be taking advantage of the automatic extension and paying a little bit of late fees for the state (not worth paying 90% (and worrying about food) and leaving the other 10% for interest)
