DDA Chapter 17

It looks like I've missed a few things...

Becky, :cheer2: for Florida airfare!

Elizabeth, I hope that everything is ok with your ds. That sounds scary!

Lindsey, I'm so sorry to read about your layoff and Jonathon's ordeal.

Dh finally checked in. He said nothing new. He thinks that no layoffs are ever going to actually be announced here. They are just quietly cutting people. He hasn't heard anything more about anyone that he knows (or himself).

yikes on pins and needles with you.

Sorry for all not feeling well! I haven't been feeling well all week but I keep trying to tell myself I am NOT sick. I don't have time for it!!! I just hope this Saturday isn't a repeat of the last 2 with someone getting sick.

Hi all,

Thanks so much for virtually keeping me company tonight (although I'm fairly certain the majority of you are asleep at this hour)! I really needed to get my mind off of RL for a bit, and catching up on tens of pages of DDA chatter was refreshing. So, even though I didn't respond, thank you so much for being there, and a huge dose of :wizard: :grouphug: for all, particularly for all of those fighting sickness. And, a happy birthday to Glynis!

I'm sorry I've been away again for a few days. I was determined to get a lot of things done around the house before I left for FL, and my computer is still not fixed, so that ate up a lot of time shuttling it back and forth to the Geek Squad.

I got to Florida Wed. evening, and am here in my grandparent's old home with my parents. Unfortunately, today was not a good day for us. Jonathan called me this morning, and said the sales force in his division received a 20-second voice mail from their VP that they were to have an "office day" today, and wait by the phone for further direction - i.e., layoffs were beginning. This came out of left field (although some things have happened with a drug they were certain would be given FDA approval, and it seems indefinitely stalled at this point), and needless to say, it was a harrowing morning. I felt so bad that this was happening to Jonathan while I was 1300+ miles away, and could do nothing but offer support over the phone and get down on my knees and pray.

The good news - he was spared (although you certainly wonder if you should add the "for now" to that statement). Our hearts just break for all those that lost their job - they had almost 300 people in their sales division, and there are only 160 left - it affected all levels too, from managers on down - the field level managers had no clue either that this was going to happen. Of the 10 people that covered the DFW metro area, there are only 3 left - 2 others got reassigned to other sales divisions in the company, but 5 were let go.

The irony was not lost on us that it was 1 month to the date of my lay-off. I've never been a suspicious person, but I think I've decided I do not like the 22nd day of any month.

Here's hoping that the days ahead will be better for all - I'm beginning to wonder how much worse the economy can get, but I have a feeling we're about to find out. For now, I'm staying in FL, although I feel like I should go home. I know Jonathan doesn't want me to, but it doesn't feel right to stay here when all I want to do is give him a hug - I know that's all I wanted after my ordeal last month. We'll see how things go in the next day or so. At least the weekend is coming up - nothing bad can happen workwise then!

Thanks for listening, DDA, and I'll check in tomorrow. I hope everyone has restful nights' sleep.
:grouphug: So scary! So sorry for Jonathan. Even though he's safe things still won't be the same.

Looks great! Five more days, how exciting & going to the Poly as well :cool1:
Thanks! Can't wait to get onto the beach at the Poly!

I love it, can you make me one? ;)
Thanks. Sorry all out of the remnant I bought and that Pooh fabric is regularly $14.99/yard.

In the same vein... I think I had told you all that Bob's company had cut salaries and hours of all its employees, effective last month. He got his first "real" paycheck last Friday and we were shocked. It is half what it was 6 months ago. We have tried to find as many ways we can to cut our budget and I have decided to try to add another class and possibly a couple of additional private students to my already packed schedule. Kristin has even offered to chip in which means more to Bob and me than she will ever understand (I hope).

So, for all of you dear friends who are try to live through this recession/depression... We are all in this together. Remember that and come here to get it all off your chests so we can be strong for those we love. :grouphug:
:grouphug:

oh my goodness!! I love it!!:goodvibes
Thanks!

I do! Bob's work was offering a great deal for one night and 2 days at the waterpark. We couldn't pass it up!
Cool!!!!

Well, DS INSISTED on going to school, so I took him. I called the asst. principal and told him my concerns. He said DS spoke to him this morning, and he told DS if he feels frightened to come straight to the office. Hopefully everything will be OK.

ExMomboss isn't happy with the way the school has handled things, but she says for now we are just going to see how it goes. If they want to question DS again she said to call her.
Hope things went well for DS today! You must be proud that he wanted to go to school even if you are worried.

Well $185 later I have Blue back home. She was given a steroid shot & we need to give her antibiotics & pretizone(sp). When she has another bad attack we will have to take her back for another shot.

Other than this she is in perfect health :thumbsup2
pixiedust: Hope Blue doesn't have any more attacks.

Pearl seems to be better today...I will take her in on Monday unless she gets worse.

I forgot to say...YEAH!! for a fairly simple vet visit
Hope Pearl continues to improve!

That is wonderful, Bernadette! I know Lizzy will love it.
Thanks!

Dh finally checked in. He said nothing new. He thinks that no layoffs are ever going to actually be announced here. They are just quietly cutting people. He hasn't heard anything more about anyone that he knows (or himself).
:grouphug: Hope DH & his coworkers all keep their jobs!

DS is home and he had a good day. It sounds like he didn't even see either of the coaches. The asst. principal came up to DH and talked to him for a bit in the carpool line. DH told him we are just very concerned about DS being approached after school yesterday. I said "Did you tell him we have e-mailed our attorney?" He didn't, but I kind of think he should have.

They had the Science Fair awards today. DS said they put his project on display in the library but he didn't win anything. Well, duh! Next year we will start earlier and do a cool project. Remind me that I said that.
I asked him if he saw any projects he thought were cool. "No." Of course not.

I could have kept him home today and he wouldn't have missed much, but I guess he was better off going to school since that's where he wanted to be.

Oh Science Fair Guru :rolleyes1 - it's approaching SF time for Nicholas. I think his has to be in on March 12. Any 3rd grade suggestions???

Hey all-
I just got a minute to stop in and say hi.
We got a wii fit today, so ive been playing that since i got home!

Happy Friday All!

I'm glad that his day was better than you feared. It is very strange how the dynamics very in our various neighborhoods. If something like that happened here I would feel comfortable walking up to the gym teacher and asking him or her what the h@ll he was thinking? Even before working at the school I knew all of the kids teachers. Being a small school, not much happens and when something does we usually hear about it very quickly.

Yes. My 3rd grade suggestion is home schooling. Any other questions? ;)

I actually can't remember what DS did in 3rd grade. That may have been the year we added up how many grams of sugar you would consume if you ate one serving of everything they advertised on Saturday AM cartoons in the span of 2 hours. I thought it was brilliant. He didn't even place. :confused3

Yeah, that would not be a good idea in an "urban" school district. :scared: The LAST thing I want is any kind of confrontation between ANY of us and the coaches. If they will gamble with a bunch of 12 year olds there is no telling what else is going on that we don't know about - in school or out. For DS's sake I hope they both get put on leave and/or transferred to another campus.

I forgot to mention that Mr. Driscol used to be a lifeguard at Blizzard Beach. Hunter has had long conversations with him about it. He wisked his girlfriend (another teacher at the school) away for a surprise 4 day vaca at WDW for her birthday earlier this month. He is really a very nice guy.

Well, I hope they skip over you guys all together! pixiedust:

I've been working out pretty consistently and today my Wii Fit age was 23!! :cool1:

Ok everyone, I have a poll over on the CB. Would ya mind taking a short detour over there and taking it, if it applys?

I do! Bob's work was offering a great deal for one night and 2 days at the waterpark. We couldn't pass it up!

That is wonderful! What a terrific way to spend a winter weekend. :)

Ohh yeah that sounds like something I could wear. What is the name brand?

My guess is that you need a different style of glasses, Heidi. The ones I have now are so light weight that I often fall asleep with them on and they can take the abuse!

Deb -- I'm sorry you are so sick. You don't sound just a little sick, you sound very ill, like the flu or something. I know you promised Hunter, but you might think of an alternative person to take him tomorrow just in case. I was sick to my stomach last Monday after having to withdraw the offer to take the boys to the movies, but I never would have made it to work the rest of the week if I had tried taking them.

It sounds like the flu to me too, Deb. Take care of yourself.... :grouphug:
