DDA Chapter 17

Wow... that was quite a P3 I just had!

I am glad I don't have to teach until 2:30 today. I went back to bed after I let the dog out at 5:00 and slept till 7:30. I must have needed it since that is really out of character for me. This junk has made its way into my chest and I am coughing. No fever, productive cough. So, I will continue with my Mucinex-D and hope this thing will make its way out of my system.

I noticed on facebook that Stephanie is sick again and headed to the doctor, so lots of PD that she gets to feeling better too.

:yay: I still need to do mine. :upsidedow

The only thing about seeing Ray Liota that I would probably enjoy would be looking at his amazing eyes... :rotfl2:

At night before dinner, he looked pretty hot, in that mobster kind of way. (You know, I guess it's not really fair to peg him with the type of character he usually plays, but he has that dark hair and the "character" just seems to fit him.)

In the morning, well, as they said in Meet the Parents, the "hair fairy" must have visited him. :rotfl2:

Tuesday

This was our Universal Day. We did the tour with two parks, and it was terrific! I love going in the backdoor entrances and not waiting in any lines. I do have to say, though, we got lots of dirty looks from people who had been waiting in the holiday lines. We were with a family of 6 who we met when we checked in. We weren’t originally supposed to tour with them, but the Grandmother in the group had the tour people change things around because she thought we would be a good fit with her family, and we did have a lot of fun. (She’s been a reporter for years and specializes in healthcare, which is the industry of a lot of our clients. I now have an open invitation to visit her in Florida, or at their Maine house in July/Aug!) I can’t believe all the things I rode. Some of them, like Dr. Doom, I might not ever ride again. It took well in to the night before my head stopped hurting from the G-force and my stomach settled. Dueling Dragons was also a lot of fun. We rode in the back seat of Fire and the front seat of Ice. It was fun!

We went to Whispering Canyon for dinner, and had the skillet. You can tell that Jake spent most of his time at the table in front with the Lincoln Logs. He did these pretty much by himself (there wasn’t much of a wait that evening).

Jake’s middle name is ketchup, so of course he needed to ask for some.

I enjoyed our dinner. We were back in a quieter party (which I didn’t mind, as we were exhausted) but our waiter was terrific. Another waiter walked by at one point, and Andrew was playing music on his phone and sort of moving to the music. She asked if he wanted to dance. I should have gotten a picture of him ducking under the table and turning beet red!

After dinner we headed back to the room to pack up.

(As a side note, the second morning we were in WDW I had sent an e-mail to my friend in IPO telling him how much we appreciated the signed pic of Minnie and Mickey in our room, how I was a little disappointed in not having a daybed or castle view, but that I know he tried and really appreciated everything he did. During our tour of Universal, I received an e-mail on my Blackberry asking me if I’d like to move rooms. This was his first day back in the office after a break, and he asked the room assigner if they could move us to a castle view. I asked everyone what they wanted to do, and they said it was my choice, but Jake said he’d help pack everything, so I e-mailed back that we’d love to change and appreciated the move.)

Guess who has it now :guilty: I have been up & down since 2am. I was suppose to work today for my manager as she is needed at another store. I am trying to get that straightened out, I just don't think I can do it today.

Gary is still not feeling well, I was hoping he could take the boys to school & drop Blue off at the vet, but that is not happening either.

So I will go out & hope I don't need a bathroom real quick. I just feel drained at the moment.

Oh, Janet - I'm so sorry to read this. Lots of pixiedust: pixiedust: that this leaves your family soon. :grouphug: for today.

Momboss said they had a meeting yesterday. For now they are not laying off anybody else. She told me about 4 or 5 other companies that are laying off hundreds to thousands of people. :sad2:

DS didn't know of anyone else being called into the office, but obviously somebody (either a student or a parent) said something to get the ball rolling. I think I am going to keep him out at least for this morning so I have some time to talk to the principal. With the economy it isn't like these guys are just going to waltz straight off to another job, so I imagine they are not going to go quietly.

There are so many companies laying people off across the country, it just staggers the mind. I know all the local news channels will report the smaller local companies (so now I'm aware of Dallas', as well as the Treasure Coast of Florida's problems), not to mention places like Microsoft, IBM, etc. that are laying off nation-wide. It's just such a gut-wrenching feeling. I have no idea, at some point, where the money to pay all these unemployment benefits is going to come from. I'm glad to hear Momboss is safe right now.

I think it's a good idea to keep DS home today. I hope you get some answers from the asst. principal.

I finally had hot water today! :cheer2: :cheer2: It's the little things in life that are terrific today!

And I'm beginning to feel better. Just a little, but I'll take it. :cheer2: :cheer2:

Everyone who is trying to eat better -- good luck with the weekend -- that's always my most difficult time.

Yay for the hot water - and for feeling a teeny bit better today! :thumbsup2 I hope things continue to look up!

Ok everyone who wears glasses, how do you do it? I have had glasses since 10th grade, but never wore them full time (yes I know shame on me, but I just couldn't get use to them) until about 6 years ago and I still really can't get used to them. The minute they get a speck on them I have to clean them, don't know how everyone in my family wears such dirty glasses. Plus they are just annoying. :sad2:

I don't. ;) I've worn contacts since I was 8 (my dad worked in the business). I am close to legally blind, and even with today's technology, glasses are Coke bottles for me. Contacts changed my life. :thumbsup2

Have you ever looked at getting any?

Oh, Lindsay... :grouphug: It is so scary, isn't it? We are all living in such an uncertain time and to know Jonathan was "spared' is good news, indeed. But I do understand your fears. Every time that Bob comes home with further plant closings and layoffs my stomach tightens too. He is very down because his friends and associates are no longer working. So watch for that to happen to Jonathan too. He will need your understanding in a week or so as it all sinks in at his office. I think you should enjoy your time in FL with your family. You need the recharge it will give you right now and Jonathan will be ready for your support when you head back.

In the same vein... I think I had told you all that Bob's company had cut salaries and hours of all its employees, effective last month. He got his first "real" paycheck last Friday and we were shocked. It is half what it was 6 months ago. We have tried to find as many ways we can to cut our budget and I have decided to try to add another class and possibly a couple of additional private students to my already packed schedule. Kristin has even offered to chip in which means more to Bob and I than she will ever understand (I hope).

So, for all of you dear friends who are try to live through this recession/depression... We are all in this together. Remember that and come here to get it all off your chests so we can be strong for those we love. :grouphug:

Elin - I'm so sorry to hear the cuts in Bob's pay are worse than you guys were initially prepared for. :grouphug: I'm also sorry to hear that Bob is down - I can certainly understand that, and know that I will be watching for that in Jonathan. The good news - all of his really good friends in the state were saved, but a couple were moved into different divisions, so he won't be working with them regularly any longer. He had the most friends lose their jobs on the east coast - particularly in the mid-Atlantic states. Although he didn't work with them day in and day out, it's hard to get your mind off those families whose lives have been turned upside down in the space of a phone call. I hope that a way to weather the storm becomes evident for your family, and how wonderful that Kristin wants to help, too. I think weathering this storm will tell us a lot about our country - I think it's time to remember the hard work and entrepreneurial spirit that marked this country for decades, and not the "I'm owed something/I'm a victim/I'm too good to work hard" mentality that seems to permeate so many these days.

We went back to the hotel and hung out in the lounge. I think this was when I first saw Ray Liotta. We were sitting in the chairs in front of the TV, and a couple of kids (probably teens) had been hanging out there as well. This guy walks by, asks the kids where someone was, then they all get in the elevator. As soon as the door closed, I asked Randy who it was because I couldn't remember his name. It turns out, Randy had seen him that morning, and he made quiet an impression. :snooty:

While I was finishing getting Randy in the room, Randy was with the boys in the lounge. Someone was showing Ray around and stopped at the breakfast. Ray took a look at it and said, "Just so you know, I like a real breakfast." :snooty:

I did end up seeing him the next morning. He was standing over by the breakfast layout ending a bowl of cereal and had earbuds in his ear. I'm guessing so no one would say anything to him. He loaded up a tray of food and headed down the hallway. I guess that breakfast ended up being good enough...
:rotfl2:

Love the pics and the additional installment! Too funny about Ray Liotta. Umm - what has he done lately?!?!

The only celebrity (at least that I was ever aware of) that we've seen up there was Kelly Ripa during last year's parade taping. Nobody really approached her, but she was totally normal, getting her breakfast just like everyone else, and joking with someone that was with her that she hadn't washed her hair yet that day.

Wow... that was quite a P3 I just had!

I am glad I don't have to teach until 2:30 today. I went back to bed after I let the dog out at 5:00 and slept till 7:30. I must have needed it since that is really out of character for me. Lots of pixiedust: pixiedust: that you get to feeling better, Elin. And more pixiedust: pixiedust: for Stephanie, too. When I had similar junk after Thanksgiving, it didn't begin clearing up (even with prescription drugs) until I started supplementing with Mucinex. That stuff works wonders!

:rotfl2:

I know exactly what you are saying... those ice blue eyes are so striking, but with his dark hair he is a little eerie and gives me the creeps. I think I have seen him play one good-guy part and I just couldn't see it. He is type-cast by his looks but has decided to go with being a character actor instead of a leading man, I think. Too bad he is apparently a jerk!

 Or... maybe his wife planned the trip to WDW and he really didn't want to go. Some of us could identify with his behavior since we have DHs that often act like that too. :rotfl:

Another great recap! And you gotta love the GF folks. :thumbsup2

Wow, Chanon... you sound like a travel agent!

:lmao: Exactly!

Great report, Marci! So cool that you got to change rooms princess:

Lindsay: :grouphug:

Here's the fleece hoodie I made Lizzy. I found the Pooh fleece as a remnant on Black Friday. Now it can be nice and warm when we go to Disney. My countdown is wrong. I only have 5 days. I never fixed it after I added a night with the 7 for 4 deal. I'm a bit :scared1: and a lot :yay: I'm so excited to be returning to the Poly!!!

oh my goodness!! I love it!!:goodvibes

Hi all,

Thanks so much for virtually keeping me company tonight (although I'm fairly certain the majority of you are asleep at this hour)! I really needed to get my mind off of RL for a bit, and catching up on tens of pages of DDA chatter was refreshing. So, even though I didn't respond, thank you so much for being there, and a huge dose of :wizard: :grouphug: for all, particularly for all of those fighting sickness. And, a happy birthday to Glynis!

The irony was not lost on us that it was 1 month to the date of my lay-off. I've never been a suspicious person, but I think I've decided I do not like the 22nd day of any month.

Here's hoping that the days ahead will be better for all - I'm beginning to wonder how much worse the economy can get, but I have a feeling we're about to find out. For now, I'm staying in FL, although I feel like I should go home. I know Jonathan doesn't want me to, but it doesn't feel right to stay here when all I want to do is give him a hug - I know that's all I wanted after my ordeal last month. We'll see how things go in the next day or so. At least the weekend is coming up - nothing bad can happen workwise then!

Thanks for listening, DDA, and I'll check in tomorrow. I hope everyone has restful nights' sleep.

oh dear:flower3: I am sorry Lindsay (and Jonathan).:grouphug:

I planned on getting a tie, hmm now I will look for a coat. I am most worried about shoes, he only wears tennis shoes. He can wear Garys, but he only has a brown pair of dress shoes.

tennis shoes are fine....all of the guys here wear their jackets/ties and tennis shoes (One of the guys for homecoming did make sure he had almost brand new ones....he kind of looked like Ducky from Pretty in Pink :goodvibes )

Like I said before, he will look handsome no matter what he wears. :groom:
