DDA Chapter 17

If you all could spare a little pixie dust and a prayer for my sister, she takes her driving test at 1 today. I know it's not a big deal in the long run, but she's a mess.

She's actually a very good driver, but had one incident where she turned and cut someone off a bit and it totally freaked her out (I'm sure my dad, wonderful but very quick to snap sometimes, didn't help the situation) (I picture a "When you're driving, you have GOT to be careful because someone could die" sort of lecture, you know...). I tried to reassure her that it's really by the grace of God sometimes that we arrive places safely, because - as far as I can tell anyway - we ALL have days that we either zone out or just do something stupid while driving. We shouldn't, but we do.

Anyway, after that (about a week ago) she just has herself all embarrassed, more than anything. She wouldn't try the maneuverability portion (she hasn't since driving school, 6 months ago), and when she did it last night she got flustered and had a hard time.

She'll be fine if she chills out.... but that's the problem. She's very chill all of the time, until she gets worked up about something. Then it's over! ;)

:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: tell Kassi (did I spell it right?) good luck!

Close! It's with a C (Cassi), but she'd be thrilled that you got the "no E" part! :teeth:

Thank you!

I was thinking it was more different than Cassidy's name, but I guess I was wrong!;)

sad when zero looks good :rotfl2:

I was listening to them talk about Chicago on the news when I was waiting in the Drs. office. I'm trying very hard not to complain about the temp here, knowing what you all are going through.

I remember when Jonathan took the driving portion of the test...I was sitting outside of the DMV on a bench watching all the folks...the instructor is standing at Jonathan's window trying to tell him something...I see the kid fumbling around....apparently he couldn't remember which button was for the power windows :rotfl2:

Jennifer - The Packing Gods will not smile on you if you are a packing slacker. :sad2:
Good luck to your sister on her driving test!:wizard:

I had a waiver from Driver's Ed saying I didn't have to take the test - I just had to go in and get my license. Well, I smarted off at my mother in front of the examiner and he decided to make me one of the "random" ones who had to take the test even WITH the waiver. My mother drove this horrid land barge Grand Marquis that I had NEVER driven, and I had to try to parallel park it. Of course I couldn't, and of course I failed. So they took away my waiver and said I couldn't have my license until I could pass the test. I was SO infuriated. I can't remember what car I used when I finally passed the test. I almost think it must have been the land barge, because I think the Ogre drove a stick shift.

Theresa - I am glad Dude is doing OK! :)

 Funny, but I swear that's the kind of thing that would tip Cassi over the edge today.

(God help me when I have 2 teenage girls :faint: )

That stinks! Although, I must admit, the idea of a waiver seems a bit odd! Was it just for taking drivers ed? Was that not required? I passed my test fine, but was not thrilled about taking it. Shame on you for smarting off to your mom and missing that opportunity! ;)

As for packing.... eh :confused3 I just don't know where to begin this time!

Ditto - but at least you looked and knew you could rule it out comfortably!

I need to make this a quick post as I need to get Colby out the door to pick up brothers for snowboarding.

Hunter's appointment did not go as well as I had hoped. He has a definite heart murmer which they have never heard before. They did an EKG and it looked okay from the peds prespective, but a cardiologist will look at it. They also ran the various blood pressure tests at my insistance ;) They had him lay down for 10 minutes, took a pressure, had him sit for 2, took a pressure, had him stand for 2, took another pressure. The blood pressures weren't alarming, on the low side, but he always has been. What was remarkable was his pulse. His pulse laying down was 81, sitting up was 102 and standing was 117. There should not be a difference like that as he wasn't moving and did nothing to elevate his pulse. Now they need to figure out why it is doing that. That resulted in a trip to blood draw. Hunter freaked out. He screamed and cried. It was horrible. Heck he cried most of the way back to school and says that he will run away before he lets them do that again. colby was with us and said that he has never heard Hunter scream like that :scared1: The doctor is supposed to call me this afternoon with the results of the blood work. They are doing a CBC, checking for iron levels, sugar levels and other things. He has a follow up appointment with his actual ped next Wednesday. He was told he could do snowboarding tonight, but if he feels at all lightheaded he needs to sit immediately. Either Chris or I need to shadow him to be on the safe side.

So in short I am much more worried now than I was before his appointment.

:wizard:  for all of you. I'm so sorry the blood draw was so traumatic, and that things seem iffy right now. Could the pulse change be from anxiety, i.e., the longer they were testing him, the more time he had to think about it, be nervous, etc.?

I hope you get some results you can work with soon.

Howdy....

Deb....hang in there! I know how stressful these things can be

Good luck on your interview Theresa!

AFM....I have a sore/lump that has been bothering me ...I finally went to the doctor. I knew it wasn't good when the doctor lets out a yell "Oh my God, that's huge" :sad2: Apparently it's a cyst with a major infection....I have to take meds for 10 days. That was the good news. She then informed me that these things don't typically go away, but have to be surgically removed....are you freaking kidding me!! But....after last nights SEVERE pain, I decided that surgery couldn't possibly be worse.

OUCH!! (Don't they teach doctors not to say those things aloud in medical school?!) Hang in there, and I hope the surgery, whenever scheduled, is quick and painless.

You all seem to get the chattiest when I am not near the computer.;)

The "interview" went well. I am to call him back tomorrow to discuss pay and whether I want the job. The one sticking point-I won't start until they have a potty on the premises:rotfl: I just need to decide if I want the job....so I will be doing some pro/con sheets tonight. :thumbsup2

Well, that's good news! But yes, I think bathrooms would be a must. ;)

Well the curtain is not long enough for the bathroom window, but looks perfect on the front door. It is so pretty we had to make it work somewhere lol

Garrett is a little bummed that he only made $10 with one driveway. He said they knocked on so many doors, but everyone just said no. I told him a lot of people just don't have the extra money now & at least he has $10 more than he did before.

School has already been canceled for tomorrow, so now they do not go back till Tuesday.

I am scared our water will freeze again, so I am going to let all the faucets run a little tonight to hopefully keep the water flowing.

I like Garrett's resourcefulness! Good for him for being out there. I hope you guys can stay warm - we're barely in the 30s here, so I can only imagine how cold it is for some of you!

Goodnight everyone!
There is a stomach thing going aruond my school and im not feeling toog reat so i think sleep is in order--goodnight all

Feel better, Jen.

Since the TSA site doesn't list it and the search on the DIS isn't working (typical), can I pack a very small pair of fingernail clippers in my carry-on?

Well I called and said that I would be interested in the job...we'll know by Monday. :goodvibes

The driver's ed guys were able to test and "certify" us, then we just had to take the waiver to the license office. I had already passed the test in one of the driver's ed cars, which were nowhere near the size of my mother's bus. This was in FL more than 20 years ago, so things may have changed!

Yes.

Janet, Kristine, Deb and anyone else with -temps, come on ove to my area of PA its a lot more warmer. It is 12º with the wind from the WNW at 6 mph, tonight is going down to -2 with the wind WNW at 5 to 10 mph.

We're up to 10 degrees now. It a heat wave. We'll be back below zero by nightfall. Thankfully Colby and I are in for the day and the others will be as they get home.

I'm off to bed. I'm exhausted. I probably won't be on tomorrow. I'll be driving home after work if the roads & weather cooperate. Have a great day DDA.

Safe travels, Vicki! :wizard:

Well, I had my 2nd weigh in tonight. I managed to lose 2.2lbs. I'm sure had I not derailed myself at the bar Saturday night it would have been much better. And if I could actually drink water too. I have no problem drinking it any other time but it's been so freakin' cold all I have been drinking is coffee and hot green tea. Thankfully, I've switched to skim milk and had already cut out the sugar otherwise I probably would have a 20lb gain!

Woo hoo! :woohoo: :woohoo:

If anybody is still up...send some pixie finding dust this way...we think Dude got out some time this afternoon and it is way to cold for him to be outside.

ETA: the ferret rescue guy was wrong....at least with Dude. He said ferrets have no homing instincts, Dude never left the area surrounding our building. We found him shivering under our porch.

Poor little guy! I'm glad you found him before he became an icicle!

Thanks for the birthday wishes for Randy. I think he had a great birthday. Of course, that key lime pie derailed my eating, and along with other snacking I gained a pound. I did get on the elliptical for 30, so it could have been worse. I think my sinus infection I had while at Disney never quiet went away, as I'm pretty miserable again. I guess I'll call the internist and let them know what is going on. A bright point -- I don't like to eat when I feel like this, so maybe I'll lose the pound. I do plan on starting back WW again. I'm not doing well on my own.

Have a great day everyone!

Sorry that you're not feeling well again. Glad Randy enjoyed his b-day!

Prayers said for Cassi. :wizard: :wizard:

They changed the law in TX right when I was turning 16 that as long as you had taken driver's ed and were certified by them, all you had to do was take the written test to get your license. :thumbsup2 I was so happy, as I still stink at parallel parking! :rotfl:

Well I called and said that I would be interested in the job...we'll know by Monday. :goodvibes

That's great! Lots of :wizard: :wizard: until Monday.

Well, got to get back to cleaning around here. My dog's vet appt. went well yesterday - they can't find anything of concern, and all her labs check out. Hopefully, she was just in a bit of a funk. I'm sure my being home all day has thrown her schedule off, as this has never happened in her entire life. She's reaping the benefits of getting chicken baby food mixed in with her dry food right now to interest her in eating more regularly. :goodvibes

The computer is still with the Geek Squad. I went to pick it up yesterday, brought it home, and it was doing the same darn thing. Needless to say, I was not a happy camper. They have it again, and I told them they're going to fix it right, and I'm not paying another dime for it. We'll see what happens - should be done either today or tomorrow.

Stay warm, DDA!
