DDA Chapter 17

Theresa, I hear you! I've only ever met one DDAer (aside from the locals ;)), and - as Tammi mentioned recently - it was a very brief, accidental run-in before they took off for the airport.

Lynn and I tried to catch up once, and Glynis and I started our 1/2 Marathons something like 10 seconds apart, but that's about it.... :upsidedow

I'm glad she's ok! Thea was very clingy when I was home on bedrest.... maybe they are just thrown off by the change :confused3

I hope your computer isn't too far gone... how frustrating!

Pearl is just now getting used to me being home all the time. Dude just loves that he gets to spend more time running around.

Whew! Miss a few days, and you all go nuts!!!

Alan's computer has been in the shop since last Friday, so he confiscated mine (which used to be his), and I just got it back this morning. Sounds like I've missed a lot! Sorry I wasn't around to let you know I was thinking about you, but I was. You all are in my prayers each and every day!

Deb - Jacob had a heart murmur for a couple of years, but then it went away on it's own. We had to watch him carefully when he was active, but he never showed any of the signs they told us to watch for. I hope that Hunter's dizziness goes away, and that it's nothing to be concerned about.

Kristine - I'm so sorry about the cyst! Not fun at all! I'm glad you were proactive and went to the doctor about it.

Congratulations to all of you losing weight! I stand in awe! I was all set to begin training in earnest for another half marathon, but I went to my doctor the other day, and she suggested that if I want to continue nursing Timothy, I need to not do too much exercising. She's concerned that due to the gastric bypass I'm not eating the amount of food necessary to promote good nursing, and she really wants me to try to add an additional 500-1000 calories per day. I'll try, but it makes me so sick to eat so much. Guess I'll have to put the training on the back burner. Looks like I'll try to shoot for the half marathon in 2011.

Life here is good! It's been cold, but the last 2 days have been almost spring like! I even went shopping this morning without wearing a coat! I'm not holding my breath, since I'm sure we're in for more winter weather, but I'm enjoying it while it lasts!

Now, I have to brag on Katie for a while. In November, she took a test to try to earn a place in the advanced programs for English, History and Science at our Jr. High. If she got in, it would mean she was in that program for the entire time of her jr. high, and she would automatically enroll in AP classes in high school. She was so nervous! She took the test, and we waited and waited for the results. We didn't hear anything by Christmas and figured that she hadn't made it. Well, we got a letter of acceptance yesterday! She was so excited! And to make things even better, 2 of her best friends were also accepted! This has been just the best thing for her self esteem. Lately she's been down because some of the "popular" girls are making fun of her. She's not the standard stick figure, and has started to develop, and so she's become an object of ridicule! None of those girls are in the advanced program, so that made her feel pretty good!

Anyway, that's the news from Utah! Talk to y'all later!

The problem is that you girls don't travel in AUGUST. ;)

I have met:
Terry, Stephanie, Vicki, Tammi, Debbie, Anne Marie, Bernadette, Beth (briefly), Janet, Robyn (but she had to come here for me to meet her), Marci, Lindsay (of course they are local, so that's cheating). I think that's everyone.

Glynis-How wonderful for Katie!! Please tell her I am very proud of her. :goodvibes I can't wait to get back to see you all.

HOLY CRAP!

US Air flight from LaGuardia to Charlotte is in the Hudson River! :scared1: :scared1:

About 150 people on the plane, along with 5 crew.

The pilot was reporting they flew into a flock of geese.

People are having to walk on to the wing of the plane and climb aboard boats. YIKES!!!

I think we bumped into eachother a couple of times that dreary, rainy day! Did I ever tell you about the wonderful Dream Team member that caught up to us on ToT right after I said Hi? If not, remind me later...I really have to get dinner going now.

Congrats to Cassi on the driving test!!!

Congrats to Katie!!! Tell her those "popular" girls aren't worth any time or concern. We had a long discussion here about them not too long ago.

I've read along, but now I can't remember what else I wanted to respond to. I wish I could take the DIS boards along when I have to sit around waiting for Miles and his friend at swimming tonight. Oh well...I'll have to read.

Don't I know it!!! We've had several discussions about this lately. I'm just glad that she's got something to obsess about other than how they've been treating her. Usually, she just lets it slide off her back, but she's been very emotional about it.

I told Alan, it seems like she's PMS'ing. I think puberty is awfully close!

Beth - You did tell me about your ToT "Dream". :)

Glynis - I just don't know if I could be a "girl" mom. There are days I question being a "boy" mom! :rotfl:

This plane crash is unreal. Makes me think of Titanic. :scared: Can you imagine being the LAST guy in the line to get out as the plane was sinking? :sad2: Absolutely terrifying.

Jennifer glad to hear Cassi passed her driver test!

Glynis congratulations to Katie :cheer2:

Theresa I hope the job works out for you :wizard:

I wasn't aware that heart mumurs could just go away. That is terrific news in my mind. Congrats to Katie. That is very impressive. She must be a very smart girl :thumbsup2 You need to give up on the exercise and keep that little guy well fed. There is plenty of time to exercise when he is a little older.

Beth - You did tell me about your ToT "Dream". :)

Glynis - I just don't know if I could be a "girl" mom. There are days I question being a "boy" mom! :rotfl:

We watched a bit of coverage. It seems that geese took the plane down, but the pilot managed a safe landing in the river. I don't think the plane was sinking. Either they towed it to shallow spot or they secured it to some barges, either way everyone got out ok :thumbsup2

Kristen-good luck with the cyst!:wizard: Stay warm!!!

Deb-glad to hear Hunter's blood work came back normal. Hope they can find more answers for you soon!!!

If anybody is still up...send some pixie finding dust this way...we think Dude got out some time this afternoon and it is way to cold for him to be outside.

ETA: the ferret rescue guy was wrong....at least with Dude. He said ferrets have no homing instincts, Dude never left the area surrounding our building. We found him shivering under our porch.
Glad you found him OK!!!
When do you make a decision on the job?

It was so cold here I went to bed at 8:30pm just to stay warm under the covers. What a shock when I got up at 5:45am & the house is freezing.

Love your frozen smilie!

Good morning-As soon as i logged off , i went to sleep and slept the entire night...still not feeling great this morning, but nto too bad..if im not feeling much better by this afternoon, i may be taking a sick day for tomorrow.

Theresa-glad you found dude!
:wizard: Hope you're feeling better!

Elizabeth is 35 days out to soon to pack?
This time of year it is unless you want to pack for 80 degrees and 30 degrees. I want to pack now but I really need to wait for a better forecast. Right now it is highs in the 50's lows in the 30's in Orlando but accuweather's 15 day forecast has my early dates as highs in the high 70's and lows in the 50s. I'm hoping accuweather is accurate! If the forecast stays like that I will of course pack some clothes for cold weather (we will them for travel anyways) but will pack more for warm weather. If the forecast changes I may not pack as much warm stuff. Traveling with just Lizzy I can't just pack 2 sets of clothes for everyday (warm & cold) like Elizabeth would.

No, it is NOT too soon. The rule is that you must be completely packed a minimum of 12 days before departure. :)
Whoever designed the stupid packaging for Cabbage Patch dolls needs to go in front of a firing squad. :headache:
It took me TEN minutes to get the doll out of the box. It felt like 10 days, because Princess kept saying "Is my doll out of the box yet? Is my doll out of the box yet? Is my doll out of the box yet?" She was standing RIGHT THERE! NO, the doll is NOT out of the box, and you can SEE THAT! :headache: The box is wider at the bottom than it is at the top, so you can't pull the doll out through the top of the box. Of course they seal the top of the box like it is a box full of rare jewels instead of powder scented plastic. After you wrestle with the top of the box you discover the damn doll won't come out that way, so you get to repeat the process with the bottom of the box. Then the doll is secured to the inner cardboard with no less than 4 million twist ties AND rubber bands. What? Like someone could actually get the box open to begin with? I hope that doll is the best toy she has EVER played with because it was entirely too labor intensive to be less than that.
Well seeing I'm about 12 days out now I better get cracking!!!!

Santa brought Emma a set of 4 small plastic dogs for Christmas. They came in a cardboard box with a clear window. Opening the box wasn't too bad but it was well taped. The dogs had a wire on every single paw. Santa paid $11 for the set. How can that much packaging be worth it?????:confused3

Oh I remember opening boxes like that on Christmas morning for the boys :rotfl:
That is why Santa generally opens everything before bringing it but those dogs looked so cute in the box.....

Then you must come to Disney with me. :thumbsup2 It may be cold but its above freezing.
Not always! I've been there in temps below 32 degrees.

Since the TSA site doesn't list it and the search on the DIS isn't working (typical), can I pack a very small pair of fingernail clippers in my carry-on?
Yes. You can take scissors too with blades up to 4 inches.

She passed though! :yay:
:woohoo:

:woohoo: Congrats to Katie. Is she too old for American Girl Doll books? The 2009 doll of the year confronts some bullies. I bought Lizzy the DVD but we haven't watched it yet. I'll let you know how it is.
