DDA Chapter 17

So, I could use some creative ideas...

Terra would like her new room to have a giraffe theme. Since that could easily be overpowering, I'm trying to figure out ways to do it nicely without being too kidish or going overboard. She also wants yellow walls so that would be the start. I'm thinking about doing a collection of framed photos and posters on one wall, but from there can't really get a vision of what I could do. I tried googling, but get overwhelmed with listings for this bedding set that is crazy busy with giraffe spots.

Anyone have any ideas?

The basement area, which we'll use as the playroom and also the primary area when I add a couple of more kids for babysitting, will be the easy one. Total Disney! We're going to use the lithographs and posters I've collected over the years to hang around the walls. I'm thinking of doing a couple of display shelves as well for things like my Disney glasses, our Mickey ears, and other collectibles.

Speaking of which, we walked into one house yesterday and we're looking at the living room. They had a huge display cabinet filled with Disney stuff - special mouse ears, collectible glasses, AKL DVC artwork and collecitbles, etc. One of the bedrooms had the Mickey headboard and DL and DCA collector maps framed on the wall. Small Mickey head accents throughout the kitchen. Terra was thrilled and sure that all of that stuff just needed to stay in the house for us.

What about painting the top half or 2/3rds of them room a muted yellow and then the remaining bottom cream and painting on girraffe spots. I would separate them with a chair rail or even a painted border.

The bedding could be neutral and then it might not seem so overpowering.

Tia- It sounds like you have a great start on your house dreams!

It might be hard to find all giraffe items for Terra's room. I know when we were looking at paints Abi was looking for animal colors. She choose two blues...her room looks either like the ocean or the sky now. She has chosen a bunch of science and animal posters and pictures for walls.

For Terra how about a muted yellow/cream (because giraffe's aren't actually yellow) on the wall with a safari border (either the trees or other animals) and a few pictures of your favorite zoo giraffe on the wall in large brown frames? I also know Home Interiors (the home party company) had a safari set a few years ago so E-bay might be a place to look for those.

For bed/bedding-I would go a light wood frame with light tan to medium brown comfortor with sheets that match or complement the wall coloring.

I like Robyn's idea better than mine. Mine wasn't as detailed...but I was going to suggest using brown picture frames as the spots going up the wall.

Does anyone have an idea on what to get a child/parents for a baptism? We found out today that we are the godparents too! I can't think of anything unique...

Feel better Theresa,
I went to bed last night with a Migraine I also took some Exedrine Migraine I woke up with a migraine still. I also add sneezing and runny nose to that.

Yuck! I hope you feel better as the day goes on! :wizard:

That is very exciting, Tia! :goodvibes

Tia, I am so excited for you! I am glad you have an idea of what you want and that things are falling into place! :thumbsup2

So, DH talked to his boss and he has the Fri & Sat of Super Bowl weekend off! :scared1: I booked our room at Great Wolf for Fri. 1/30. We need to find someone to look after Princess that afternoon, but Momboss said not to worry about it. I e-mailed the moms of DS's friends that I have e-mail addresses for. The other 2 will have to have written invites. I have phone numbers for one, but the other little guy is new this year. I have met his mom but I don't have ANY of their contact info.

I guess I need to phone my cake lady and give her a heads up. I told her yesterday I thought we were doing Feb. 7.

Amazing that DH has off both of those days...and with you being out of town he can't be called in:woohoo:

The supervisor said since DH always goes above and beyond that he doesn't mind DH having those days off. Which is really nice, because other than just verbal "thanks" DH never really sees much return for all the extra effort he gives.

That's impressive! Great that you can finally get your party plans off the ground though.

:crazy2:

It is strong, and not particularly pleasant. It is more grapefruit than anything else, but with "toilet cleaner" undertones. We always keep our toilet lids closed so the cats don't play in the water, so when you open the lid you get a big "whoosh" of chemical grapefruit. :scared:

I think brown picture frames would work, but I'd use round or oval frame just to keep more with the theme

Tia this is what immediately came to mind for me. My cousins used to have this in their room

There is now much nicer ones like this

Tia how artistic are you? Could you do this?

I would probably use jungle wallpaper as I'm not an artistic painter. Then you could use giraffe furniture or bedding and curtains.

Here is a cute wallpaper mural for a feature wall

This one is kind of cool too. They used animal stamps to make the pattern on the wall. I did this in Nick's Western Mickey room and it wasn't too hard to do

I could design Terra's rooma all day, but I really should get something done around here. I think I'll start sewing.

Thanks for all of the ideas so far everyone! I did find one walpaper mural, but depending on the size of the room, it may be too large of a scale. I love the stamped wall, Deb.
