DDA Chapter 17

Hi, all,

Long time, no talk! I have spent the good part of the last week reading through Chapter 16 and up to this point of Chapter 17, trying to catch up on everyone's lives before I just jumped back into the fray. :goodvibes

I want to wish everyone a belated happy holidays, and a happy new year ahead to all. Thank you so much for all of your cards over the last several weeks - they were truly a bright spot!

I know Marci posted the news of my job loss, and I really appreciate everyone's kind thoughts, prayers, and words. I was in a bit of shock there for a while, and then with the holidays, having to clean out my office/e-mail account right after Christmas, etc., I just vegged for the first few days of '09. I think I've read about 7 books since Christmas, and avoided my e-mail account, which was a nice "clearing of the head" time. I have no idea yet as to what I will do next (although I have plenty of thoughts on what I don't want), but I am fortunate in that I have a severance package that should get me through for several months, so I'll have some time to get some perspective. That was one good thing about having been at the firm for a while - they couldn't really screw me out of a decent amount of severance.

I truly hope that other DDA'ers will be able to weather the job and economy situation. :wizard: :grouphug: It's a little unsettling how many people I now know that seem to be affected daily by all that is goinng on, and I know all we can do is keep working hard, and praying a lot!

I can't even begin to try to recap everything I read, so I will just extend a huge blanket of hugs and PD :grouphug: :wizard: , and please know that I celebrated, sent prayers/good thoughts, etc., every time I read over something that needed it.

In other news, we had a great trip to the World in mid-December. We did a lot of fun things (great meals at R&C, Boma, Narcoossee's; the Segway tour; the DIS' Toy Story Mania after-hours meet), got to see several DDA'ers (Terry, Stephanie, and Denise), and really enjoyed our time at AKV (definitely where we'll probably add DVC points once the time comes). Best of all, we got a huge amount of pixiedust when we were upgraded to the Main Building concierge at the GF - we had booked a concierge room after our great stay there last year initially, but when the economy began tanking in Sept., it just seemed the right thing to do to back off to an AP rate in a garden view room. To get that sort of an upgrade was a huge thrill, and was even more wonderful in hindsight, considering what was to come when I headed back to work that Monday.

I'm also fortunate in that I'm going to go visit my parents later this month down in FL (they've headed there for a couple of months of "winter" at my grandparent's old home), and they've asked me to go for a couple of days to WDW with them while I'm there. Unemployment does have its silver linings at times. ;)

Plus, I'll get to DIS more, and keep up with everyone here on a regular basis. :dance3:

Well, this went much longer than intended, so I'll sign off for now, and see you guys tomorrow. Night night, DDA!

It's great to hear from you. :wizard: :wizard: That you find that perfect job for you. I think many of us are soul searching for life direction in that aspect:wizard: :wizard:

Good Morning DDA,

Terry - I'm sorry to hear about your loss

Deb - I would definitely make an appointment for Hunter, has he ever had his iron levels checked out?

Tammi - Love the pictures, you all look like you were having a great time.

As fas as August goes, just let us know what you decide. They are changing the way we accrue vacation time so I'm not sure how that is going to work with our plans for the year. I honestly believe that some companies are using the economy as an "excuse" to screw over their employees. :headache:

I made Hunter an appointment for Tomorrow at 11:40 AM. He told me yesterday that he wanted to go to the doctors, even if it meant having to have blood drawn:sad2: That is when I knew it was time to call. It has really been just the last couple of weeks. My mother said this morning that she has been having a lot of dizziness the last couple of weeks too. Now I'm praying that it is just viral and that it will disappear really soon. We will get things checked out just to be safe.

Make sure they check his BP... it's not standard to do so in kids except in trauma, etc, but it sounds like it could just run low. I hope that's all it is! :wizard:

ETA: Have the nurse or MA do an orthostatic BP, too -- standing up vs lying down, etc

I will have her do that. Thanks for the tip.

I got an ammendment to my Disney Visa in the mail yesterday. It looks like they are finally raising interest rates. I'm going from 9% to 14%. We hardly carry a balance, but we just put on our flights and insurance to PHX for our March trip. We have until March 1 to pay it off and not get that lovely 14%.
Anyone else get one? It's my only credit card, and Bob hasn't seen any for his.

I got one for one of our accounts. The rate is going up to 10.99% which is determined by prime rate plus 6.99%. We also usually pay off our credit cards monthly. The last couple of months haven't worked out that way so we are working on getting that one bill paid in full.

My mother is coming over this afternoon. They signed up for the comcast Triple play last December. There was a special rate for the first year of $99. They just got their first bill at the "regular" rates and it went up to over $200 per month. She thinks that she has charges for items that they don't even have. To make things worse the service wasn't great last year as they had to have the technician come out at least 5 times and they went through 11 cable boxes :confused3 We'll see what we can do on that one.

Well, that's a bummer. Actually, we do have a balance right now but it is from those "checks" with the locked in APR. 3.99% for the duration, I think. And our tax refund will be used to pay off the Chase balance. The only thing I have gotten from Chase lately is more checks! I guess it won't really bother me if they raise the APR because if we aren't going to pay something off immediately we use the checks to lock in the low APR and make sure we don't charge anything as a purchase that would go behind the balance from the check.

Do the checks work the same way for "services not rendered"? Meaning, we put our flights on the CC because if Continental for some reason goes bankrupt, we can claim "services not rendered" and get our money back.

No clue. But what you can do is write the check into your checking account and then either pay with your debit card OR pay with another credit card and then use the cash from the Chase check to pay off the other card. The only down side is that you don't get reward dollars for any of the check transactions.

Marci - Yep, Mom starts radiation today. Her appointment is this afternoon - 3 something, I think. She finishes work at 2:30 IF she is working. Since she has to have her arm and fingers wrapped up I don't think she is terribly effective on the job. Her lymphedema treatments are every day at 6:30 AM, so she has to go to the hospital before and after work every day. She thinks she will have the lymphedema treatments for 2 more weeks, the radiation will be for 6 weeks.

Elizabeth - :wizard: for your mom today.

Thanks! :)

So I was reading some reviews of Great Wolf last night and a couple of people mentioned getting a AAA discount. Hmmm. I just called them and I got $44 back! That will come in handy if I have to pay the $60 upcharge for having 8 people in the room! :thumbsup2 I didn't even think to ask about a AAA rate when I booked the room. The guy said there are no "local resident" rates, he didn't tell me there was a AAA rate. He also didn't offer to send me a confirmation e-mail, which the girl today did offer. Very cool!

Tammi,
GREAT family pictures!!! You got so many nice shots.:thumbsup2

Heidi,
Yay for ME tags!

Lindsay,
Good to see you posting.:wizard:

Debbie,
:wizard: for your vacation.

Terry,
I am very sorry.

thanks for the dittoable:goodvibes

:wizard: :wizard: For Elizabeth's Mom

Laundry is almost done. I started by folding a load of socks :headache: Just one last load in the dryer and one in the washer. I also received the pesticides, but they are frozen solid. I don't think I'll find time to work on that project until Thursday. I just keeping moving projects back :sad2: At least I haven't swept them under the carpet yet.:sad2: :rolleyes1

It is so cold outside. I think the high today is 28 degrees, but we are at 7 now and the cold front hasn't moved through yet:confused3 . There are also snow storms that should be pushing through before the cold front. Snowboarding tomorrow is going to be so cold. It is supposed to be sunny, with a high of 4 degrees. I need to pull everything out and get it into piles by kid, that will end up saving me a bunch of time tomorrow.

I need to run to pick up Colby. I started the car 15 minutes ago. Did I mention that I hate cold. Not to mention that I'm allergic to it  I'm hoping to avoid hives although a little benedryl would give me a nap wouldn't it

Elizabeth-your mom is in my prayers today.

Deb-take care today....if I had half your gumption I would be extremely happy. Hopefully the dr. appt. tomorrow will cast some light on the dizziness.

Deb - I hope you can avoid the hives! :wizard:

I was talking to Susan last night and I mentioned that I CAN NOT hear my new cell phone when it rings. I have messed with the ring toes, the volume, etc. and I simply can not hear it. She said she has hers set on "outdoor" which makes it ring louder than the highest regular setting. I just changed mine to "outdoor" so we'll see if that makes a difference. I used to be able to hear my phone if I was in Princess's room and my phone was in my purse in the kitchen. Now I am struggling to hear the phone if I am IN THE KITCHEN! :headache:

Thank you, Theresa. :)
How are you feeling today?

okay for the amount of sleep I haven't gotten in the last 3 nights. No big headache but I have an ear that seems to be perpetually clogged with wax. There are no jobs to apply for today and I am ticked at my family. Okay....just got some of my grumpiness out. ;)

Is there anything out there that will remove the little round balls on my blanket? that happened after I just washed and dried it.

Thanks thats good to know.
We are nervous because you only read of the negitive that has happened. People who had no problems never seem to post.

Why? It really is a great service :thumbsup2

I'm sorry. Have you tried those drops for excess ear wax? We used to have to do that with Sister. She had these TEENY little ear canals that were impossible to clean.
:wizard: I hope tomorrow will bring some jobs to apply for!

I have seen a "shaver" thing that is supposed to take the pills off of sweaters, but I have never tried one. :confused3

Hmm.

I just got an e-mail from a family we know from DS's school. They bought a house to use as a rental, and they are asking if we are interested in looking at it. The house would be the same price as what we pay in rent + storage unit. We would need to buy a dryer, but the other appliances are included. It sounds really nice.

If we were closer to the end of our lease I would JUMP at this. I am worried about what kind of penalty we will owe if we break our lease. :scared: We still have 5 months left, so we really are nowhere near the end. I called DH and he thinks we should definitely go take a look at the house and go from there.

you need a de-piller I think they are fairly common in stores...I swear I have seen them in Walgreens
