DDA Chapter 16

So the bridesmaid dress was just the beginning of the fun, it would seem!

I had to create a folder/filter in my inbox because I get LITERALLY 35+ emails per day from girls in the wedding party (there are only 6 of us!), going back and forth about themes for various parties, showers, etc that will supposedly happen between now and August (the wedding). The latest and greatest ideas are to recreate Daytona Beach Bike Week (and not the look at really cool Harleys part of it...), or to do a Drinking Olympics.

Am I the oldest 25 year old on the planet?! Or just, more um..... suburban? Traditional? Classy? :snooty: :rotfl:

The maid of honor, who is spear-heading all of this, is married with 3 children.

Anyone else think that's weird? I feel like a bit of a prude, and I assure that's a first

It just seems that, for me anyway, wedding planning was a very different experience than when I planned sorority events. And my SIL was never within 40 miles of a sorority event. Heck, my sorority events were classier than some of the shenanigans they're hoping to plan, and this is a wedding! :scared:

ETA: (Did I just say shenanigans? I AM old! :rotfl:)

That is the most adorable picture!!!!!!

I'm hoping to get to walk a 5K with the two cuties! If I ever get this job permanently, I'll probably lose my state vehicle. That means I'll be in Lansing with a personal vehicle. I just may take one of the week-ends I get stuck down here and travel to see a couple of DDA with a couple of cute kids.

I'm sure we'll be able to meet up at some point during the walk! You might want to pass us up, but we'll catch up at the finish! ;)

(And to think, not 2 years ago I ran a half marathon. It just plain sucks that the "un-training" is so much easier than the training! :sad2: )

Chris and I have dissected all of our livingroom furniture. One chair is now outside though the little critters appear to have died when we had the exterminator her over the summer. I will not take any chances. I've ordered a pesticide and some phermone traps that should remedy the problem. We think that we were probably infested with both the larder beetle and the flour beetle at the same time. Probably a bad bag of pet food though it could have been anything. We noticed the larder beetles as they are larger and were prevailant in the kitchen area. The flour beetles can live on flour dust or even some furniture stuffing materials and they are so tiny you wouldn't even know they are there. Apparently many homes have them and never know it. I'm tempted to throw out all the furniture, but what's to stop new furniture from becoming quickly infected if just one little guy remains. So we will do this right and not make assumptions. I feel like I must be the worst housekeeper in the world, but I swear that I do clean regularly and the entire house has been "spring cleaned" and I mean deep cleaned this year as we've redone 90% of the interior and we have no carpeting other than a few scatter rugs :confused3

You need to stop looking so closely! :lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl2: You are going to have bugs.

:rotfl: Thank you! You can come visit these two instead, if that would be easier for you in the long run! ;)
i so wish i was close enough to come visit you guys!!!!! I would love to!

thats okay, im the old 24 year old then!

Jim thought it was too when that whole bed thing blew up. Until he somehow got burned by one of the people who is still on my ignore list.:rolleyes1

It isn't that bad. I am only being flamed by one zealot who keeps insisting that having her child when she was 17 was a brilliant thing and was in no way a burden to society. OK, great. When you live in a state that is spending upwards of $78 million per year on illegal immigrant health care AND that state ALSO has one of the top 3 rates of teen pregnancy you get a little irritated by people trumpeting about teen births being OK. If there are 80 pregnant girls in ONE high school how many pregnant teens are there across the state? They WILL perpetuate the cycle of poverty because that is all they know how to do! They are TEENAGERS!

Prayers needed for Chuck's mom. She is in the hospital again. It sounds like her meds messed up her system. She will be coming home Friday or Saturday. Chuck is going to go stay overnight with her at least her first night home.

Since I have to head back down here on Sunday and wouldn't get home until Friday night (when Chuck would be gone anyway), I'm just going to stay down here for the week-end. I might go see my mother on Saturday and spend the day with her as she'll be at my aunt's house which is only a couple of hours from here.

Oh, dear. Good thoughts for Chuck's mom! :wizard:

ETA: (Did I just say shenanigans? I AM old! :rotfl:)

I'm definitely old and a prude and traditional! These over the top weddings are ridiculous. We had a bridal shower, a rehearsal dinner and the wedding. Chuck didn't want a bachelor party because of the "shenanigans". :lmao: I'm sorry to say Jennifer, you are a very mature 25 year old. Sometimes, I forget that you are only 25.

thats okay, im the old 24 year old then!

Eh... I don't know, it's weird. I'm not against partying. I LOVED theme parties, etc in college. But in college, not associated with my wedding.

I've been told on dozens of occasions that I should go into wedding/event planning. The sources have something, in that I would LOVE it and I think I have just the personality for the planning part.... but Kyle has pointed out on numerous occasions that I would have a heart attack if people requested some of the stuff we've seen at various weddings (namely, um, with his family :rolleyes1 )

I know that it's not at all important what I think, and that's it's so not my wedding.... but I just get a little (toned down) Bree Van DeKamp streak when I think about some of these things! It would drive me nuts, and I just wouldn't be able to "put my name" on it. I guess I'd just have to be choosy about my clients, which is not a great business model! :rotfl:

Jennifer - I hardly think an alcoholic olympics is an appropriate pre-wedding activity. But that's just me. It sounds like a disaster.

I WAS OLD until I was about your age.....now I am the teenager (in spirit). But even that makes me shake my head.....and it's fun saying shenanigans:rotfl:

We kind of met in the middle. We had a combined bachelor/bachelorette party, as a sort of "last hurrah", but it was ALL of the wedding party, and it could be because it wasn't about strippers and sex and what have you. We certainly drank, and a lot more than usual, but that was the worst of it. We all barbecued at Kyle's apartment, then went to Gameworks (with a driver), and crashed by about 2am. {And that might have been the last time I was out that late, other than at a friends/family members house! :rotfl:} It was a great time, ALL of us together. And it was about hanging out, because - like it or not - marriage changes how you hang out, at least in the long run. It wasn't about being stupid-drunk and just plain stupid, just for the sake of doing so.

I wish I could say it was just about maturity, but I have to admit it's a bit about preference. The other stuff I was alluding to is, I'm POSITIVE, just the difference in culture between a suburb and "the country". It's just that I have this idea in my head of what certain events (like weddings) should be like, and they're much more princess-like than anything else! :goodvibes

Im the same way--I mean, i like having a good time, but whaty ou mentioned just doesnt seem like having fun to me
Not that im getting married anytime soon, but I ont thnk i would make those choices for my wedding , etc

Well, it's nice to know I'm not totally crazy ;)

I'm going to go find something to eat (9pm dinner, anyone? ) and then either get in bed with the laptop or, more likely, play some more on here.

"See" you then!

Theresa - Obviously other people are far more creative than I am when it comes to naming pets! :rotfl2:

I didn't have any sort of pre-wedding thing. DH's friends took him to a strip club, where my maid-of-honor's boyfriend apparently had the most fun.
When I went to FL for a wedding the girls went to a strip club and one of the guys stripping was a guy I went to high school with. That triggered the consumption of WAAAY too much alcohol. On the other hand, I haven't EVER had that much to drink again, so some good did come from it! I was 23 or 24 back then.

:rotfl: Thank you! You can come visit these two instead, if that would be easier for you in the long run! ;)

It would definitely be easier, cheaper and probably more fun. I'm too old for babies now. I do enjoy all the hugs that my big kids give me these days. Colby has been particularly huggy today

:lmao: I could never handle the media. My boss told me today that he told his boss that he needs me on his team! There was more to it then that but that was the gist. It made me quite happy! It is nice to be appreciated again. There were a couple of years in this job where I wasn't and that was very difficult because I've always been one of the top valued employees EVERYWHERE that I have ever worked.
That is wonderful that he is recognizing your value and telling you about it :thumbsup2

Wow, what an interesting group of girls. I've never heard of Daytona themed pre wedding events unless the bride and groom were advide bikers. I can only imagine the outfits for that one.

You need to stop looking so closely! :lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl2: You are going to have bugs.

I'll stop looking when I stop finding them. I am a bug o phobic remember. When I find one I become obsessed until I've killed the entire population...forever insert evil laugh

If my children don't stop bringing food into their rooms I may have to go postal on them too. There was enough Pop Tart crumbs in Colby's room to feed an entire bug colony for years. Of course it was Hunter that ate in Colby's room.

I got so angry at Christopher I told him I was going to put him out on the front porch....even Jonathan is hiding...and I am not even mad at him :rotfl2:

Sorry Kristine....my voice is gone from yelling. Everyone has lost tv, pc, & video games for a week. I feel like I am going to lose my mind sometimes.

you wicked wicked woman! you must try the fox trot...I will email you the details :rotfl2: I did get your email...I dare not bring it up with the current household atmosphere

Kristine - did you get my late emails or are you out dancing with Bill? popcorn::

It's just that I have this idea in my head of what certain events (like weddings) should be like, and they're much more princess-like than anything else! :goodvibes

I'm from the "country". My parents families were farmers. I grew up quite poor. However, your wedding is supposed to be very princess-like. It was the one thing in my life that was very important to me. It is supposed to be special. Sharing it with your loved ones is one aspect. Mine probably wasn't as "classy" as yours but it was definitely princess-like. This doesn't have anything to do with the suburbs or country. I think it is more to do with the classy/traditional that you mentioned earlier.

I'm actually glad to hear that clarified. I guess I just made excuses for "them" and "us", touting that it must just be "different". They actually probably have more money than my family did, so I know it's not about that.... I guess it really is SOLELY about personal preference. I just have never met as many people as those in Kyle's extended family, that think a wedding is as joke-worthy as they do. :confused3 I just grew up assuming everybody wanted SOMETHING resembling a fairy-tale wedding, even if it wasn't the same level of "fancy" or "frilly" as someone else's, you know? Apparently I'm wrong. Not the first time... :)

Then again, everyone I know thought we were crazy for not drinking. We wanted to remember our wedding and reception, which is apparently also not normal
