Jennifer - you may not like that last photo people you used, but I think they did great sillouettes of the girls! Those will look great next to each other.
I am totally amazed at how big they are getting...I still can't get over that.

Oh, a few shots turned out fine. It was just all the rest of the crap I ranted about on the blog.... overall, it certainly was a waste of time and money. Still, the few I have make me smile :)

I agree, too, that they are growing so quickly!

Tom, I can't believe your trip is in less than a month! :yay:

Deb, I hope those critters are out quickly (and don't come back)!

I am being flamed on the CB for saying teenage mothers perpetuate the cycle of poverty in Texas. Um, hello? THEY DO!

When a high school girl in Texas gets pregnant it is no big deal, because TONS of them are already pregnant. (One high school on the news the other day has EIGHTY pregnant girls! :scared1: ) Many of these girls come from homes where the parents are poor and work blue collar, minimum wage jobs. Or they come from single parent homes where the parent draws welfare. The girls have the babies, keep the babies, and follow in the same pattern as the parents. They don't go to college, they may not even get a GED.

They aren't getting good jobs, paying taxes, etc. They are running to the ER with the baby because they have no insurance, drawing welfare, WIC, etc. and trying to survive on whatever low wages they can earn. In the meantime, they are having MORE babies.

Are there some who don't follow that pattern? Yes. Are they common? NO. Obviously SOME teen moms manage to do OK for themselves, especially if they don't come from an impoverished background. But the poor ones tend to stay poor. It is what it is, and it isn't just my opinion. It is fact. Being offended by the truth doesn't make it not true.

That's why I said they PERPETUATE the cycle of poverty. They repeat the same mistakes they saw growing up, and it goes on and on. I didn't say all teen mothers are the solitary cause of poverty.

The battery died in Gary's Jimmy & there is something wrong with the left front side(I guess it is shaking bad). I had to give a urine sample at the hospital today. I thought whatever I had was gone, but nope. So we will see what the results say. Plus I have my dental issues going on.

This all is taking money that I was not planning on be taken. So Gary & I will unfortunately be discussing whether the March trip is a good idea or not.

So not a happy day in the Corbin household today :sad2:

So it appears that the economy woes have hit close to home with us also. My company has decided that it is necessary to reduce the number of full time employees in each store, part of this decision will take my position and HR and combine the two. This is a really bad move on their part, but they are looking at numbers and not practicality.

Now, I have 22 years experience, have actually done both jobs while the other girl has only 6 years and has only done the one position. I consider her a friend but under the circumstances I'm afraid I'll have to pull rank and insist that I keep my status, I'm not going to give up my benefits, personal time and vacation time.

So if you could add me to the Pixie Dust list I would appreciate it, I'm actually not supposed to know about this yet and she doesn't know, so maybe they will work something out.

I would have to agree that you have every right to "pull rank", though I know that might be hard. Good luck! :wizard:

I didn't know that.....the majority of Kmart's around here went out of business a number of years ago.....

I wonder if any of the retailers are doing ok

All of ours left probably 5 years ago except for 2 (that I know of), which are both closing this month.

We have a handful of CVS stores and TONS of Walgreen's, but also plenty of independently owned pharmacies as well. Of the people I know, everyone either goes to Walmart, Kroger, or a locally owned one.

clearly you don't remember my "the community board is like fly paper for freaks speech" I can no longer read there sober

this is totally off topic....but I had the oddest conversation with my Fed Ex guy....

so today when he came to the door I said, "I missed you yesterday, the other guy came so late"

He says, "I had an emergency, I had to take my bunny to the emergency room....he was in respiratory distress" I try to stammer out..."I am sorry to hear that"

That's something I have never had a man say to me before....I close the door and Bill says "That's nice that he took a day off to take his BUDDY to the doctor....I say, "no dear, his BUNNY"

Debbie-I am sorry about the possibility of job repositioning....I have found that A LOT of companies are thinking that they can save costs by hiring people at a very low pay to do our level work. What they don't figure is how often they have to RE-hire and train when they do that.

Janet-I am sorry the March trip isn't looking like it will happen.

Wal-Mart and Walgreens are very good at destroying their local competition. (I will be honest and say that we haven't had a local pharmacy in years though)

I had a lovely 2 hour lunch with my friend (where it was confirmed Miss Tattle Tale's BFF is the new office manager) and came home to a voice mail from an acquaintance (she is the Admin. for Discovery Job Network...a place that has sponsors and offers job support groups and lists jobs....LUMC was a sponsor and I was the main contact there....long story shorter, she helped me retool my resume and cover letter skills) that she felt she had just received a job where I was a very good fit. :lovestruc I just sent my resume to the gentleman. :cool2: While it wouldn't be the best job (it's only part time right now) it's good to know that networking works!!

:wizard: :wizard: I hope you get the job, even if it is only part time, it's money :wizard: :wizard:

That completely makes sense. The same thing happens in Vermont and NH. We have many relatives that fit right into the pattern. Speaking of that...did I mention that Chris' niece Ashly had her twins the other day. I guess his mom emailed, him. I don't know more than they are here. She is 20 years old had has 3 kids. She is on welfare and will never have a job. She was sent to college not once, but twice for free by the state, and she never finished. Her sister also grew up in foster care and could have gone to college for free, but she opted not to go, but to move in with the sister :confused3 It is a vicious cycle.

pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust:

And if there is any DDA pixiedust remaining, I could use a little. Rumor has it that IBM will be cutting 16,000 world-wide around Jan 23rd. We haven't heard anything specific, so I'm trying not to panic too much (and yet still panicking!). This is one time, I wish we weren't single-income.

Terry & Stephanie-your package came back to me...I will send it out (AGAIN!!) tomorrow.

:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: I hope your job is secure.

WalMart is truly evil. They were the nail in the coffin of the locally-owned grocery chain DH used to work for. He actually interviewed with them because they were recruiting HEAVILY. They paint a very rosy picture, but then you find out the truth AFTER they hire you. Luckily DH's friend's DW was a store manager and she gave him a peek at all of the insurance paperwork. :scared: The coverage was so bad we wouldn't have even opted in. We would have had to buy private health insurance.

DH's friend did go to work for them, and after 90 days or whatever they demoted him and cut his salary. I really do not care for their practices!
:sad2:

speaking of seek and destroy...did you know that Walgreen's strategy is to find towns with small but established local pharmacies....then they open nearby and destroy the little guy....
:sad2:

Thank you all for the hugs :goodvibes

As hard as it may be, I am 99% sure we won't be going. We will lose out on the airfare though unless Airtran changes our flights drastically & I doubt that will happen.

I knew money was tight with all the remodeling going on, but with the 4/3 deal I thought we could make it happen. It just seems like one thing after the other has been happening lately. I know this is the responsible thing to do, but it still makes me feel defeated.
Oh Janet, I am sorry to hear this. I know you were looking forward to it.   Sending you :wizard: :wizard: that mo more surprise expenses turn up.

Sending some your way.:wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

3 of my girlfriends have been laid off in the last month. It is very depressing.

here to...both Kirsten & Christopher have been banished to their rooms. I absolutely furious...I am feeling much mental strain at the moment

I have always believed that if you are on welfare, you should be put on forced birth control. This is both men & women and it should be a shot that works for a month. As long as you stay on the birth control, you get your welfare. The other side says "That takes away my civil liberties!" And I say "No, you give up your civil liberty for bearing children while you can't take care of yourself and any children you bring in the world! As long as I have to help support you, I have a say in it."
