DDA Chapter 16

Oh no, Deb & Tammi! All these sick kiddos :( I hope everyone is better before Christmas! :wizard:

Tammi, sounds like Alyssa has what Leighanna has.
It is a nasty stomach virus that kills your appetite. Leighanna hadn't eaten anything, and any liquid we would force on her came right back up. She became very dehydrated, even with all of our atttempts to get fluids into her.
Just keep an eye on her and use gatorade or pedialyte to get her hydrated. The hospital said food is not as important as liquids for her.
Leighanna must have had at least 6 large IV bottles pumped into her. Finally after about the 5th one, she started to perk up.
She woke up today still not feeling 100%. We are going to continue her bland diet, and liquids.
Hope that she is doing better soon.

I'm so sorry to hear that DDA kids are sick. Here's lots of PD to all of them!:wizard:

Also sending PD to the adults. :wizard:

I did sleep until 6:15 this morning! Better than usual. I'm about to get ready to go to Wal-Mart. I'll check in later. Have a great day, DDA!

Thanks for the advice everyone. I did call the ped. and they want her to come in to do a strep test, since she is complaining of a sore throat too. I tend to think the sore throat may be attributed to the stomach acid coming up, since it didn't bother her until this last vomiting episode, but who knows. :confused3 It won't hurt to have her tested.

Here are a few photos from our Hospital stay.

I didn't get any during our 7 hour stay in the tiny ER exam room. Leighanna was just too sick, and we were too worried to even think of any pictures.

Anyway, these are from when she got moved into a much larger room, with more comfortable chairs for us to take a little nap in.

Leighanna only went to the hospital with her BAB cheetah, but came home with many more. The staff was quite generous with the stuffies. This made Leighanna more comfortable. Her favorite was her Fox in Sox. She loves it.

Here she is enjoying her turkey and mashed potatoes. She hadn't eaten anything since Thursday, and this was Sunday night.

Her worst memories of this visit were when they were trying to get an IV started. She had to have her blood drawn, and since her veins were so hard to get, they would do the finger prick and then squeeze and squeeze to get the blood sample.
She also had to have a clean urine catch to rule out a UTI. She had to have one done using a catheter. This was by far the most traumatic thing I have had to witness, and Leighanna was so scared. I know that Leighanna will not want to go through that again.

Alyssa threw up again in the middle of the night. There was nothing to it though, just liquid. I swear, for a split second, I thought she dumped a glass of water on her bed just to fake being sick. Anyway, she is slightly not as active during the day (I attributed it to being tired from being up at night), no appetite (just a few bites during the day), and an upset tummy. We've never gone through the flu here, so would this be something I should take her to the dr. for, or just let it ride it's course? What can I give her to eat that would be easy on the tummy?
  Keep her hydrated, that is the most important thing:hug: :headache:

Both Nick and Hunter had the roto virus when they were little. They were so sick, it was coming out both ends and we couldn't keep anything down. I remember Hunter being so limp and lethargic. We took him to the doctors and they admitted him. Nick started with it the next day and our pediatrician admitted him before he got to the point that Hunter did. They both had IVs for a couple of days until the virus had run its course. I'm really hoping that Colby does not have that nasty virus and Alyssa too.

Colby vomited at 1 AM then fell asleep until round 2 at 3 AM. After he was throwing up every half hour to 45 minutes until about 6 AM. He as made it 3 hours now without vomiting, though he has nothing left anyway.

I think that Chris and I may have each accumulated 2 hours of sleep over the course of the night. Chris went to work, but he is hoping to come home early as he is totally exhausted. I'm not going into work tonight as I'm not sure how this virus will play out if and when he starts eating. I'm also not sure if anyone else will catch it. With any luck Colby and i will be able to take a nap this afternoon. We certainly both deserve one.

We have no water & I don't think it is frozen. We have never had problems with the bathroom. I am wondering if there was a water main break somewhere?

Anyway this suck, I need to get ready for work. I do have enough water in a bottle to brush my teeth at least :sad2:

:scared1: no water
:wizard: that it is fixed soon

okay finished eating and got caught up. But now miss Virginia is awake and is wanting to nurse so I am here a bit longer.

Anyone have any good recipes for a breakfast casserole?
This is the first Christmas in a long time that we will be home on Christmas Eve, and not rushed on Christmas Day.
I am thinking a nice breakfast might be a good way to start the day!

Any ideas or suggestions?

With vomiting I usually let DS choose what he feels like eating, as long as it isn't greasy. Definitely keep her hydrated. My pediatrician suggests diluting the Gatorade with water. BRAT diet is good for diarrhea, but I am not sure if it makes a difference for vomiting. :confused3

I hope everybody feels better soon! :wizard:

Breakfast casserole sounds great, sorry I don't have any recipes though, where's Glynis?

Glad to hear Leighanna is doing better, even though she was sick she still made a cute little patient. I had a lot of kidney problems when I was small, and they alway had a hard time finding my veins also, but I didn't mind them poking me as much as I minded x rays, :confused3 . My oldest DD was born with the same problem and had surgery at 13 months to correct it, not fun at all but the good news is the surgery did the trick and she didn't spend all the time in the hospital that I did.

Theresa,

Because I have been sick, I am very, very late in mailing my gifts for the exchange.

That is okay....all kiddos have been mailed to (except yours and I will warn the mama) I think!!

We're doing Glynis' French Toast Bake. She sent me this recipe yesterday. I'm substituting bananas for the peaches (I'm thinking tonga toast). I'll also do one without fruit. Here is the recipe

Peach French Toast

1 C. packed brown sugar
1/2 C. butter or margarine
2 Tbs. water
1 pkg. frozen peaches
1 loaf thick sliced bread
5 eggs
1 1/2 C. milk
1 Tbs. vanilla
Ground cinnamon

In a saucepan, bring brown sugar, butter and water to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer for 10 minutes, stirring frequently. Pour into a greased 9 X 13 inch baking dish, top with the peaches. Arrange bread over peaches. In a bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, and vanilla; slowly pour over bread. Cover and refrigerate 8 hours or overnight. Remove from the refrigerator 30 minutes before baking. Sprinkle with cinnamon. Cover and bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. Uncover; bake 25-30 minutes longer until the bread is golden brown.

Enjoy!

So I am at the grocery store with a loaded shopping cart & I get a call from Katie;s school nurse. She threw up in class. Poor baby...I ran out of the store & got her. She is so pale. She got sick in the car coming home too. :sad2: She's trying to nap in her room now.

Tom, I'm so glad Leighanna is home and with no surgery! I hope she is feeling 100% very soon, and I hope you all can get some REST! :wizard:

Tom-Prayers for a quick recovery for Leighanna!!

Thanks Theresa!

Anne Marie, lots of :wizard: that Katie is better soon!

What is going on with all the DDA kiddos? I hope no one else gets it!
