This is our favorite recipe...the french toast loaf from WDW Main St. Bakery

I am making in Christmas morning

Ingredients:

12 slices day-old white bread (preferably a homestyle white, not Wonder Bread
type)

8 oz. butter (chilled and sliced)

Brown sugar batch:
9 oz, light brown sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon

Mix together and set aside.
Batter:
10 oz. heavy cream
4 large eggs
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. cinnamon

Mix together and refrigerate until ready to use.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Method:

Liberally spray a loaf pan with Pam or other vegetable spray. Layer three slices day old bread on bottom of pan. Sprinkle 1/3 brown sugar mixture on top of bread, then layer 1/3 of the butter. Repeat these steps two more times. Top off with three more slices of bread (should have a total of 12 slices of bread). Press down with hand to compact bread into loaf pan.

Slowly pour 16 oz. of batter over top of loaf, covering completely. This may take a little time, to allow it to fully absorb into bread and flow into spaces at bottom. (Take
your time here and pour into corners. Lift bread at corners a little to get into bottom quicker if you want.)

Place loaf pan on some paper towel in case of overflow. Cover top of loaf with parchment paper and wrap top tightly with aluminum foil. Place in refrigerator and allow to sit overnight.
Heat oven to 325º F. Bake for approximately 1 hour or until internal temperature in center of loaf is 160 degrees. Uncover and bake for another 15 minutes. Remove from oven and let rest for 5-10 minutes. Place a plate on top of loaf pan and invert to remove from pan. Cut into 7 slices and serve.

that sounds yummy to me

so guess what I saw running down my street as I was taking the trash out this morning??

A coyote!!:scared1:

THank you all for all your prayers and concerns!
Leighanna is home!

After getting lots of liquids into her with some antibiotics and some pain meds, she seems to be doing lots better.

The doctors finally ruled out her appendix. Her CT scan at our local hospital showed that it was slightly enlarged, and she was having some severe pain on her right side.
Poor Leighanna has been through quite alot in the last 24 hours.
She was pricked several times. Both arms, both hands, and both feet. Finally the nurse was able to get an IV started in her foot. Their next location to go to was her head. Thankfully that didn't have to happen.
Leighanna was very dehydrated. She hadn't been able to keep anything in or down since Thursday night.
We finally got her to take some chicken broth this afternoon which she kept down, and then she was able to eat a little turkey before she was released.

She will stay out of school Monday and Tuesday, and have two weeks to recuperate from this.
I really appreciate all of your prayers. We didn't want to have her go into surgery.

Poor baby! I'm glad they were able to rule out appendicitis. That is so scary! Will she drink Pedialyte? Jacob came down with the Rotavirus when he was 11 months old, and he threw up for 12 straight hours. By the time we got him to the ER, he was so dehydrated they couldn't get an IV in him. Just like Leighanna, they finally got one in after they had tried arms, feet, hands. They ended up going in his head. He looked so pitiful. Once they got him hydrated, they suggested pedialyte and dry rice crispies. He lived on that diet for the next week, as he recovered.

I'm praying that she'll feel ok for Christmas. It's no fun to be sick on the holiday!

Here's a question for the Mom's with infants,

what bottle do you recommend and why. I was looking at them tonight and things have changed quite a bit since my girls were little, there was even one by a doctor that is supposed to reduce colic. :confused3

My DD didn't keep anything from when Brandon was a baby so she will be starting all over again.

With Timothy, I'm using Gerber NUK orthodontic. I'm really liking them, too. I've only had to use them a couple of times, since I'm nursing as much as possible, but the few times we've used them, Timothy seems to like the shape, and there's less spitting up, too.

Next problem...Colby managed to get a lot on his down filled comforter. As I suspected the first washing did not get much out. I started the comforter alone for a second run and it turns out that it floats so the washer isn't washing it :headache: I tried to agitate it by hand and I'm hoping that will work, but I have no idea. I can't think of anything else to do. :confused3

I know I'm late in getting this to you, but my dad always adds tennis balls to the machine when he washes his comforters. They weigh down the fabric and feathers. I've never had a problem with mine floating. Must be inferior down!

Hmm. Sounds like Princess is awake, compliments of the housekeeper. Dadboss said she didn't sleep very well because he forgot to put a diaper on her before bed so she woke up soaking wet in the middle of the night. I guess sitting around the house watching movies while the guy installed the new water heater didn't wear her out enough to get her to sleep through the room next to her being cleaned. Now she will be grouchy. I need to go to Target, the bank, and the post office but it is FREEZING outside so I am not sure I really want to go out.

Thanks Chanon, I'll will take a look.

There are tons of recipes on allrecipes.com for Breakfast Casseroles. I've done one that has eggs, sausage, sausage gravy and biscuits that was delish.

Thanks Glynis!
She will drink Pedialyte as long as I don't tell her what it is!;)
I just wanted to tell you too, that Leighanna had on her jingle bell hair scrunchi you put in her ornament exchange package last year. She loves that thing, and wouldn't take it off even during some of her procedures. She was screaming and jingle-ing at the same time.
Later on we took her scrunchie off and she put it on one of her stuffies.
That was one of the things that would put a smile on her weary face!

Breakfast casserole sounds great, sorry I don't have any recipes though, where's Glynis?

Glad to hear Leighanna is doing better, even though she was sick she still made a cute little patient. I had a lot of kidney problems when I was small, and they alway had a hard time finding my veins also, but I didn't mind them poking me as much as I minded x rays, :confused3 . My oldest DD was born with the same problem and had surgery at 13 months to correct it, not fun at all but the good news is the surgery did the trick and she didn't spend all the time in the hospital that I did.

I'm here. I've got tons of recipes for overnight french toast, but not many casseroles. My kids are not fond of egg recipes, so I don't do those. If anyone wants some yummy french toast recipes, I'd be glad to post.

We're doing Glynis' French Toast Bake. She sent me this recipe yesterday. I'm substituting bananas for the peaches (I'm thinking tonga toast). I'll also do one without fruit. Here is the recipe

Peach French Toast

1 C. packed brown sugar
1/2 C. butter or margarine
2 Tbs. water
1 pkg. frozen peaches
1 loaf thick sliced bread
5 eggs
1 1/2 C. milk
1 Tbs. vanilla
Ground cinnamon

In a saucepan, bring brown sugar, butter and water to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer for 10 minutes, stirring frequently. Pour into a greased 9 X 13 inch baking dish, top with the peaches. Arrange bread over peaches. In a bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, and vanilla; slowly pour over bread. Cover and refrigerate 8 hours or overnight. Remove from the refrigerator 30 minutes before baking. Sprinkle with cinnamon. Cover and bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. Uncover; bake 25-30 minutes longer until the bread is golden brown.

Enjoy!

This is one of our favorites! I've done it with peaches, with strawberries and with blueberries. I imagine it would be good with apples, or bananas, too.

I've got a couple of other recipes that are just as good.

Thanks for posting this! I did a French Toast bake a few years ago (without the fruit) and it was terrible. I'll be trying this one for Christmas morning as well - with bananas too because they were on sale this week.

ETA: Do you think going from frozen fruit to non frozen fruit will change the recipe a lot?

I don't think so. I'd just keep an eye on things in the kitchen. I like the convenience of frozen fruit, so I stock up when it's on sale. I always have something on hand.

Thanks Glynis!

Oh, I'm so glad it was able to make her happy. It's so scary to be in the hospital with all the procedures. Anything that can make a sick child smile is heaven sent! Tell her that all the Neves kids are thinking about her, and hoping she feels all better soon!

Ingredients

  • 3 cups, shredded frozen hash browns, thawed and drained
  • 4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) butter, melted
  • 3 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup half-and-half
  • 3/4 cup diced cooked ham
  • 1/2 cup diced green onions
  • 1 cup shredded Cheddar
  • Salt
    showlist_icon.gif
    and freshly ground black pepper
Directions

Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.
Gently press the drained hash browns between paper towels to dry them as best as possible. In a 9-inch pie plate, toss the hash browns with the melted butter into the plate. Press them into the bottom and up the sides to form a crust. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes until golden brown and starting to crisp.
Meanwhile, in a large mixing bowl, combine the remaining ingredients. When the hash brown crust is ready pour the egg mixture over it and return to the oven.
Lower the oven temperature to 350 degrees F and bake for about 30 minutes until the quiche is light golden brown on top and puffed.

Yes we do, please post the recipe, thanks.
