That sounds like fun!
Those all inclusive resorts sound like so much fun, but I think you end up paying for things you don't use. Kind of like those mega packages at WDW with unlimited recreation and so forth.

Thats what im thinking...it would be over 2,000 for the all-inclusive and its just not worth it to me..id much rather do a cruise--and see our cruise friends!

Here's a question for the Mom's with infants,

what bottle do you recommend and why. I was looking at them tonight and things have changed quite a bit since my girls were little, there was even one by a doctor that is supposed to reduce colic. :confused3

My DD didn't keep anything from when Brandon was a baby so she will be starting all over again.

I used Avent too.

I'm heading to bed. I think tomorrow will be a exhausting day :scared:

Hi Terry. Welcome home. I hope whatever you've come down with leaves soon!

Theresa,

Because I have been sick, I am very, very late in mailing my gifts for the exchange.

Terry - I am glad you enjoyed the cruise! I am sorry you have been sick!

I ordered those shorts for DS from Nike, but I think I am going to send them back. I found the same shorts on Macys.com for less and he doesn't need 3 pairs. It's free return shipping. I went to the website to get a shipping label. It says click to have it e-mailed. So I clicked, and it said to fill in all of my info, but it looked like you were only to fill in info if you want a return label MAILED. Anyway, after I did all that nothing ever said "a label will be sent to you" so I have no clue if I have 2 labels coming or none! :confused3

I love the new "do" on Alyssa!!

It is very stylish!

They have H2O products. :teeth: LOVE the lotion! We convenently had a maid cart outside our door one day and stocked up.

GUESS WHAT?! My cousin is pregnant! She is the one that lost the baby last year. She is due the 7th of July, and my friend (the one I mentioned a last week) is due the 30th of July. We are so happy for her. Her husband is worried to death already, but the are both prepared with the right medication now. Please keep all three of them in your prayers.

Terrific news! Prayers sent.

Elin- Safe travels tomorrow. Have a very Merry Disney Christmas.

Tammi- Love, love Alyssa's new 'do.

Chanon- Lots of good thoughts for your cousin and friend. :wizard:

Deb- :wizard: for all that seems to be on your plate.

Steffy- I agree with everyone else that it is wonderful to have you back.

I am still no where near where I should be as far as being ready for tomorrow morning. I have 20+ people (thankfully they are all family so I really shouldn't be so frantic) showing up here at 8:30am for breakfast. I have wasted a ton of time (watched Eric hang Christmas lights, chatted with Gail a bit & took a nap) but also managed get a lot done. But it's inevitable that the more I clean the more mess I make!!

Enjoy the rest of your weekends.

It sounds like it went well!

Kirsten and I were shopping at Target tonight....there was a fairly young man (I'd say 25) holding his 2 year old kid....the kid was screaming bloody murder and was actually hitting his father in the face......Kirsten and I just looked at each other and went on our merry way.

As were were leaving the store...I saw something out of the corner of my eye....a young child running into the street....an older lady started screaming as a car headed for this kid. If I wouldn't of ran into the street and grabbed this kid by the coat and yanked him back..... I have no doubt this kid would be dead!

After I delivered him back into the store, I realized it was the same screaming kid....the father seemed totally unfazed. Me on the other hand was in a cold sweat!

Oh my goodness -- I sure hope that child has a lot more good Samaritans like you around to him. It sounds like he will need them.

I'm home. Roads were great most of the way. There was maybe 30-40 miles total in different places where it was a little slick. It is nice being home with Chuck and the girls.

I'm so glad you are finally home. Enjoy your time off.

Tia - have a wonderful time!

Ditto! I hope it is a magical trip!

Alyssa has been crying on and off for the past hour and a half about lower abdominal pain, from her belly button down. She'll run to the bathroom and nothing. It comes and goes. I've felt her tummy but don't feel anything hard. She's dozing now but keeps squirming everyone once in awhile. She's really in a lot of pain and I don't know what to do. The pain comes and goes.

It sounds like she is better. I hope it all has passed.

Guys, I know it is late, but we could sure use some prayers right now.

Leighanna hasn't been feeling well, and we thought that maybe she had a stomach virus. Well, tonight she still hasn't been able to keep anything down or had no desire to eat.

We took her to the ER and they ran some tests, and feel that she is having an appendicitis. They are transferring her to Dayton Children's hospital tonight and are going to either operate or check further.

I just came home real quick to grab a couple of things, and ask for your prayers.

I will let you know how all goes.

Thanks!

I'm glad they didn't have to operate. I hope she is able to keep more down and feels much better as soon as possible.

I just got a text from Elin. They were able to fly standby on the earlier flight, and they are shopping at Albertsons now. I'm so jealous!

I'm glad they got in earlier. I really hope they have a terrific time.

Man I need to find a good Jewelry repair store. My engagement ring decided to break on the bottom side.

Oh no. I hope you find someone that will do a great job, inexpensively.

Bernadette wow

I agree -- great presents!

Deb -- your snow pictures are amazing!

It's been a super busy weekend, with basketball games, laundry, errands, a mini-meet with high school friends, a train exhibit and a Christmas light tour. I'm most excited about sleeping past 4:45 tomorrow. I still have a few last things to wrap, need to get to the store, and do a little bit of baking.

Sending out PD to all those who are sick or need some extra prayers. :wizard:

Here's a question for the Mom's with infants,

what bottle do you recommend and why. I was looking at them tonight and things have changed quite a bit since my girls were little, there was even one by a doctor that is supposed to reduce colic. :confused3

My DD didn't keep anything from when Brandon was a baby so she will be starting all over again.

The one you're referring to is Dr. Brown's, and my girls have had a decent time with them. The truth is, for 99% of babies any bottle will do -- honestly. If they are preemies or just a pain in the butt with regards to digestion or colic (my girls nailed all 3 categories), she might look into a "specialty" bottle. Essentially, gas comes mostly from 2 places - the gut, which you can't help (except with specialty formula IF it is warranted by a medical diagnosis, otherwise you're wasting your money) and the bottle. The small amount of air "created" by most bottles - even your super cheap, "standard" evenflo or gerber with regular 'ol nipples - doesn't hurt most babies, but some are more sensitive to it.

I hope that made sense, now for my thoughts on the 'specialty' type bottles, both from pediatric nursing and mothering difficult newborns... :)

Dr. Brown's really are good. They are slightly overrated, in my opinion (as in they aren't necessary for everyone), mostly because they are trendy ... but they definitely create fewer bubbles.

Soothie makes a similar "straw system" bottle that works just as well, but it's harder to find. It's not much cheaper either, so we skipped those (other than the 1 we bought to try).

My favorite overall is Avent (by Phillips). They have a different system, but are just as effective (if not better) at reducing air in the bottle. They are more durable, in my opinion, and require no extra "pieces" like Dr. Brown's.

If you have specific questions, please let me know. In our house we have something along the lines of 60 bottles, ranging through about 8 different styles in addition to "regular old bottles". I thought we'd never find something that worked for my 2, and of course now they're big enough - in the blink of an eye, might I add - that any of them that we have are now fine.

On a similar note, whatever you do don't waste your money on BPA-free or glass. If they happen to be BPA-free fine, but do NOT get sucked in to spending extra money, as many manufacturer's will have you do. The American Academy of Pediatrics, the FDA, the CDC and chemists around the rest of the world have all done studies and have continuing task forces that say that the amounts of BPA in any plastics we use for ourselves or our babies is not harmful. Just my $0.02, but from very educated sources ;) If it's something you all choose do to for your own convictions that obviously makes perfect sense, and you'll find plenty of options available without BPA... but just take manufacturer recommendations (and media hype) with a grain of salt, you know?

ETA: Elizabeth brought up a good point, and I alluded to it as well, about the Dr. Brown's (or similar soothie) bottles. They do have more pieces to clean, transport, keep track of, etc. That being said, they aren't hard to wash. All of the parts are dishwasher safe and fit nicely in any 'bottle basket', and if someone wanted to wash by hand instead, they come with a little (kind of cute :rotfl:) brush just for the straw, like a regular bottle brush but the right size.

One more thing, Debbie. I think the biggest factor in how most babies (without feeding issues) do with the bottle is the nipple. Not just shape, though some babies like Elizabeth's son and my sister will refuse all but 1 nipple shape (ironically, we bought Nuk thinking of these babies and mine won't take it ), but flow. If it's too slow and they work too hard, or it's too fast and they gulp, they'll take in additional air from around the nipple, if that makes sense.

The only way to know when to change nipple flow rates is to watch the baby eating, so obviously that's nothing you can know in advance (although it's safe to assume the slowest rate will be right, to start!). However, if she wants to stick with one particular brand instead of several, that might be a factor. Dr. Brown's and several others (Gerber and Evenflo, as far as I recall) only have 2-3 "flows", other than specialty and preemie flows. Avent has 4 + a variable speed nipple, which is more versatile than any others I've seen.

Playtex Ventaire is another system we really like, but they only have 2 nipple speeds and there was a pretty large chunk of time that neither of them worked for us. If we had only bought those, we'd have been out of luck.

Tom, I'm so glad Leighanna is home and with no surgery! I hope she is feeling 100% very soon, and I hope you all can get some REST! :wizard:

Accckkkk...Colby just power puked all over my bedroom.

He watched a scary movie with his brothers tonight and decided to sleep on the futon in our room because he thought he'd have night mirrors. About 12:30 he woke me up and said that he had had a night mirror. He said he was so scared that his whole body was shaking. Chris moved to his room and I put him in bed with me. He was indeed trembling. I asked him if he felt okay, if he was cold etc and he said that he was just scared. I ended up getting a book to read to him to take his mind off whatever was scaring him. I finished the book and thought he was settling down. I heard him take a sip of juice then wham all H E Double Hockey Sticks broke loose. Man he hit the bed, floor, garbage can, wall bureaus and everything in between. I screamed for Chris and he got him to the bathtub. He cleaned him up and gave him a warm bath as he was then complaining that he was freezing. I managed to clean up the mess in our room, but I have at least 3 loads of laundry from it :scared1: The first load is running though i bet I'll have to wash it twice to get it clean. I need to get at least that load in the dryer as I'm thinking we are not done yet and I'm fresh out of blankets if I need to change another bed. Of course his tummy is still hurting.

Then just a minute ago Nick came out complaining that he is not feeling well either. He did complain of a sore throat earlier, but now he has a tummy ache too. I handed him a bucket and sent him back to bed. This could be a very long night. Chris moved the futon mattress onto a couple of big bean bag chairs in Colby's room just in case he has another round and he does have a couple of buckets handy.

Next problem...Colby managed to get a lot on his down filled comforter. As I suspected the first washing did not get much out. I started the comforter alone for a second run and it turns out that it floats so the washer isn't washing it :headache: I tried to agitate it by hand and I'm hoping that will work, but I have no idea. I can't think of anything else to do. :confused3

Well I have lots of bottles that I would be glad to send you. I don't think I'll be using them again. They are the ones that have the 45 degree angle 1/3 of the way up from the nipple.

Thanks Tammi, she has a shower on Jan. 25th, I'll PM you afterwards if she still needs them.

I use the Avent bottles as the nipples are supposed to be more like moms nipples.

These seem very popular

I would suggest buying one or two of several styles and see which one the baby likes.

When I was pregnant with DS my charge used those Playtex bottles. I bought a bunch of those. Well, DS wanted NO part of those! He wanted the Gerber Nuk orthodontic nipples that wouldn't fit on the Platex bottles! :headache: My other charges have used Avent bottles. I know a bunch of bottles were recalled because of that chemical in the plastic, so I would guess the new ones don't have that chemical in them.
The Dr. Brown's bottles look like they would be really hard to clean because they have that tube piece like a straw in them. I don't know anyone who has used those.

That's a great idea

Theresa,

Welcome home, sorry you haven't been feeling well.

Hopefully this bug will be short lived,

Thanks for all the info Jennifer, hopeefully she won't be a colicy baby. My youngest DD had problems with it, I started out breast feeding but switched to formula after I went back to work and she was on Similac with Iron, and it was a nightmare, we switched to the low iron formula and it was like a miracle.

Terry hope you are feeling better soon :wizard:

Deb I hope you were able able to get some rest, :wizard: that Colby is better soon.

We have no water & I don't think it is frozen. We have never had problems with the bathroom. I am wondering if there was a water main break somewhere?

Anyway this suck, I need to get ready for work. I do have enough water in a bottle to brush my teeth at least :sad2:
