DDA Chapter 13

Our district (Dallas ISD) is HUGE. Depending on where you live in the district you have a Zone. The zones are then broken down further to determine which school the kids have to attend.

Hmm... so then I bet Lakota has "zones", since they are divided essentially by neighborhood within the same district, instead of by grade. I just never heard it referred to as such since it hasn't applied to me. That does make sense.

For us the "zones" determine who your rep on the school board is. I think DISD has 10 or so zones, each zone has a board rep. Each zone is broken up into pieces (not by neighborhood, because that would make too much sense). The district website has little maps of the feeder areas for each school. It is a huge tangled mess.

Thank you all, I think she is a cutie myself!

I am calling it a night, chat with you all tomorrow :goodvibes

The girls had their 4-month appointments today, and all went well. They did taper off a bit on the charts, as expected now that they aren't being overfed :rolleyes1 but they're still right where they should be as far as growth!

Elise is in the 34th percentile for weight and 45th percentile for length. Avery is in the 11th percentile for weight and 35th percentile for length. Both girls are at the 47th percentile for head circumference. We'll take it! :thumbsup2

We also did the duck tour today..... I'll post more tomorrow when I get a review and pictures uploaded, but it was certainly interesting. We had a private tour! :rotfl:

Now we're just watching baseball, drinking really crappy wine. I have decided that I'm going to pick up the 'featured' wine at Jungle Jim's each week when I do my grocery shopping, and this weeks sucks. Plain and simple.

I am a Great Aunt again! I went to the hospital earlier to meet my new niece, she is so tiny & sweet :goodvibes I wanted to bring her home with me ::yes::

How wonderful! Congratulations!:cloud9:

:yay: for good check ups!! How much formula were you feeding those girls?!?

Please tell me you're not drinking Dracula's Blood Wine? The store though looks interesting.

Hmm. We don't have a shop like that, I don't think! :rotfl2:
I wouldn't know good wine if it walked up and bit me. DH and I went to a charity wine tasting and I think I liked 2 out of the 20 we tasted. One was a dessert wine. I can't remember what the other one was. I like Riesling because it is sweet. Once in awhile I will have a glass of white wine. Definitely haven't developed a taste for red.

You better pray he gets a pic of that owl soon or that's all you'll hear. :rotfl:
He might need a new lens for that.:rotfl2:

Congratulations! What a cutie!!!!

SO...all this school talk makes me realize what a small time girl I am. My kids have just 1 school each for K-2, 3-5 and 6-12. I guess the district is the town but no zones or anything confusing like that.

You would probably like Ice wine-it is very sweet but tends to be pricey. They let the grapes freeze just a bit on the vine before they make the wine and that I guess concentrates the sugars.:confused3

we are a district...and in the district we have:
4 grammar
2 middle schools
2 high schools
attendance divided up geographically....except for one little bubble that gets to choose where they want to go to high school. never have figured it out

I think the wine we had at the tasting was some sort of ice wine. I almost ordered some at Le Cellier, but the price made me change my mind. The serving was only 3 oz!

If you value my friendship you will NOT suggest to DH that he needs a new lens with which to track an owl :rolleyes1

Oh my gosh.... I thought I had come clean here :rotfl: When the girls were about a month old, we upped their per-feed amount to 4 ounces because 3 wasn't cutting it. Well at the same time, we should have just started watching their clues (since they were obviously starting to eat like term babies instead of preemies). Instead, we continued to force feed them every 3 hours, almost around the clock.... meaning they were getting over 30 ounces of formula each day at 4-6 weeks old  And we're medical professionals! :rotfl:

I noticed the issue on my own, but not before feeding them like this for about 3 weeks, which is why they were on regular growth charts at their 2 month appointments! :teeth:

Since about 5 weeks they have eaten MUCH more appropriately, so we figured they'd start to actually taper down a bit or stay the same on charts, which they have... but they're still in a great spot. On the small side, but not too small! :)

And JJ's is a REALLY cool store. There are really not enough words to describe some of it's characteristics, but one thing is for sure -- you can find more international and hard-to-find foods than WDW could ever dream of serving.... and hundreds of wines, beers, etc. It's fabulous!

I will drink wine although I am still not sure I really like it, red or white it really makes no difference. I haven't found one that suits me! :rotfl:

I am headed to bed, have a good night eveyrone!!

I am by no means a wine snob, but this stuff is almost painful to drink (literally). It doesn't look bad at all, it's a cute little bottle of "Big House" Pink, from a little family vineyard in California. Looks are deceiving, though...

And I'm not sure there IS a store like Jungle Jim's..... it's literally listed as a state "tourist attraction", and sells souvenirs, etc. People come from hours away to shop there, especially if they're looking for anything remotely, um, weird. Need some Kangaroo Medallions instead of hamburgers? Alligator Steaks? Those are not even in the international section of the store..... :teeth:

Ooh, SO good! I have only had ice wine once, on a flight to (or through, I should say) a Canadian carrier.

I saw a cute ice cream advertised by Baskin Robbins...it was shaped like a haunted house. Christopher's b-day is on Halloween, so I thought it would be perfect. I haven't been to a Baskin Robbins in years...so I look up the number and start calling. Well, I didn't know that there are no more stand alone stores...they are all merged with dunkin Donuts....5 callls so far....no one speaks english!! Unbeliveable!!!

We just got Baskin Robbins back in the state of Colorado and they are stand alone. Sorry you are getting the second language run around.

I remember you saying you overfed them but not the actual quantity!! Lucy has never, ever gotten anywhere close to 30 oz a day. I think at most she would do 20-22 oz. I think Avery's percentiles are pretty close to Lucy's. I can't believe that the girls could hold 4 ounces of formula at a time in their tummies!! We all make mistakes, it's all good. :goodvibes

I think the wine we had at the tasting was some sort of ice wine. I almost ordered some at Le Cellier, but the price made me change my mind. The serving was only 3 oz!

Ice wine, or as it's known in Germany, Eiswein, is made from frozen grapes. Since the grapes are picked and processed before they're thawed out, frozen water and highly concentrated sugar and acid is squeezed out. The result is a sweet, fruity dessert wine.

The first ice wine was produced in Germany in 1794, the result of an accident. Legend has it, the owner of a German vineyard was out of town when he should have been home harvesting his grapes. Upon his return, he and his staff decided to pick and process the grapes anyway. The result was ice wine. At that time, however, it was called "winter wine." Ice wine remained Germany's secret until 1962, when it was produced commercially throughout Europe.

The grapes for ice wine are naturally frozen. This means that the grapes are picked by hand in the wee hours of the morning just after the first frost hits. It also means no other method for freezing the grapes can be used. In other words, grapes can't be placed in the freezer to make ice wine. If this inferior method is used, the wine must have a different name.

Once the grapes are harvested, they're immediately pressed. The water, actually bits of ice, is what's extracted. The intense flavor comes from the highly concentrated sugar and acid, which didn't freeze. After being pressed, the ice wine is stored in oak barrels for several months while it ferments.

Germany, Austria, British Columbia and Canada are known for producing the best ice wine since they have such consistent cold weather. Other countries, including the United States, produce ice wine as well. Because the process is so time consuming, ice wine can be very expensive and comes in small bottles.

As you can well imagine, ice wine can be produced only if Mother Nature cooperates. In order for grapes to freeze on the vine, the weather has to be cold enough. That's why ice wine is best produced in areas that are consistently cold. Many parts of the United States have unpredictable weather. A long Indian summer can ruin a season's worth of ice wine.

Ice wine is best served chilled and goes well with any dessert. It should be savored and appreciated and never gulped down hurriedly. Ice wine is the perfect treat to share when spending a relaxing evening with good company and good food.

You need to "savor" ice wine!

If you value my friendship you will NOT suggest to DH that he needs a new lens with which to track an owl :rolleyes1
I didn't think he read here. I was trying to be nice and warn you where this might be going so you'll be ready with your retort when he brings it up.;)

Oh they totally handled (no, NEEDED - freaked out without) 4 ounces at a time.... just not that frequently! :rotfl:

They're drinking 6 ounces at a time now, but only about 4 times a day! They're strange girls! :)
