Please explain to me why I can't take my dog to the kennel if he has fleas, but a child with lice is permitted to attend school?

Don't fleas carry the plague?

well I go to post office t mail a package and pick up one. forget the notice from the post office at home for the package. Tell them last name and address they cannot fin the package. Come home find the notice. Theresa had put my maiden name on the package as that is what my email is. Now to go back to the post office.

I managed another "short" day in my Out West TR. Boy, this takes way more time than I realized. If dh knew what I was doing instead of cleaning all day, I'd never hear the end of it.

Elizabeth, I am going to get the tests. I certainly don't want to put you through any more stress. It's just a lot easier to be rational when it's not you. I am sorry about your mother's newest theories. I never meant to let the mammogram go so long.

I need to go start making cookies for the cross country pasta dinner tonight. Apparently, my cookies go fast, so I'm making two kinds. What else can I do quickly that will make dh think I actually did something today?

no, you don't. We never had head lice... but both girls had bouts with pinworms.

I am so sorry you have to deal with this Tom (and family). And I am with Jennifer in that it is my understanding that the school is required by law to inform you of the infestation. They are not allowed to release the name of the child who "started it" but they have to tell ALL the parents so that it can be taken care of. As fare as I know the infected child may not return to school until the nits are gone.

Well... I just got back from the school. I am fuming!
I asked why weren't we informed that there "could" be an outbreak in Leighanna's class, and WHY we were not notified.
The secretaries in the office told me that they do not "check" the kids anymore, so no notes will ever be sent home. ( Of course none of them would look me in the eye when they said this. They knew I was MAD!
And, of course the principal is out today. Apparently the two days off at the beginning of the week just weren't enough!)
Uhmmmm... EXCUSE ME?!?
So any child that has active lice can go to school with no problem.
I suppose they can be infected with chicken pox, measles, strep throught and anything else, and still attend school.
But....... if a child pees her pants in school, the parents get notified right away to bring in a change of clothes or take her home. You wouldn't want a child to sit next to you with pee on them would you? But... lice... NOT A PROBLEM!

Susan and I were just talking about lice the other day. We have both heard you can slather your child's head with mayonaise to kill them, so maybe she needs a mayo mask on her hair for the next few days, just to be safe.
My friend who used to work with the 3 girls (the one in the sleepover story where the parents figured they could leave their kid until whenever) told me that's what Hockaday (the very exclusive private school) did when they had a lice epidemic and couldn't get it under control. They coated all the girls' heads with mayo AT SCHOOL.









I've never had lice, but I've had pinworms, compliments of DS! He was maybe 4 when that happened. DH, DS, and I all had to take these little chewable "deworming" tablets. It was delightful!



What, are you going to take after my mother? My mother, who told me yesterday that the nodal extension (the cells moving beyond the lymph nodes out into the rest of her body) was caused by the BIOPSY! I think she is insane. I know she is depressed, but I think she might be crazy, too. It is an old wives tale that cancer surgery causes mets, but she seems to have taken it to a new height. I hope she doesn't tell her oncologist things like that or he will bundle her up and ship her off to a psych ward.

Really, the test might be a waste of money. But if there is a problem and it goes untreated what will the ramifications be? Things are easier to fix when you catch them early.

Now I need to go get some Mayo! All the mayo that we had I threw out after the power outage. I still do not want to look up pinworm. Although with this school, no notes will be sent out on it anyway!

I have read about the mayonnaise thing, too. I get a bit obsessive sometimes. So when Laura had the problem in her class years ago, I read a lot about lice. I've read to put the mayo on and a shower cap over it and sleep in it. Definitely put her hair up and put lots of hairspray or gel in it before she goes to school. Remind her to never, ever share hats, combs, brushes, etc. Do they share head phones for computer class or anything? I can't believe your school allows active lice infestations!

There you go! Just convince yourself it is necessary to get those tests because if you don't it will stress ME out!
I am pretty good about going for routine exams and labs. DH is NOT good at going for routine stuff, but he has to go for his colonoscopy or they won't renew his prescriptions.

Spray some Pledge around so it smells like you have been cleaning. Squirt some blue stuff in the toilet. Throw some clean towels in the dryer and turn it on.

I think they would be more than happy to inform their readers/viewers how public schools (paid for with tax dollars) are fine with lice outbreaks. How many kids are going to miss school, and how many parents are going to miss work, because they have to be home to deal with lice?

Very cute!! I have to tell you that I have convinced Eric to help me make dresses for the girls for Christmas. (We'll see if we can actually accomplish this task without killing one another, though) We are going to make the t-shirt dresses and Emma saw that booklet on it and said "Oh those are just like the the dresses Leighanna's dad made for us. I really love my Minnie dress mom!"

Guess what I found this morning as I was brushing Leighanna's hair for school this morning? The dreaded lice. Ugh!

YIKES! We've had it go through the schools here lots of times but we thankfully haven't had to deal with it at home. What a day you've all had.

I'm just proud of myself for being this ready so soon. Maybe it was hearing Elizabeth's packing mantras for awhile now. The last several trips, I was ironing shirts and packing with less than 12 hours (what should have been sleeping hours, no less) before our flight.

I appreciate them but I just got all crazy making clothes. I cannot promise I'll be any better in January as I have plans to make a few things for Lizzy & Halley and I may even try making something for me. I'll be crazy busy at work for a while then the holidays then Joe's birthday Jan 10th then Emma's Jan 21 then our trip Jan 28. I better start packing what I can now. I pulled out all the fall/winter clothes last weekend and put away a lot of summer stuff but did leave out things I we might bring for Lizzy if its warm enough at WDW for the trip.

well I was 7 minutes late in printing and we got A 36-38 on boarding passes.

You may be able to preboard. I have been able to flying to MCO with Southwest.

So, I packed up all my courage and actually went to my physical yesterday. I need a little more of that DDA pixiedust, because I think I'm about to waste more of my time and money (but I want it to only be a waste of time and money). The doctor said that he heard a heart murmur when I was lying down. I swear he has heard that same one before (and only in that position), but he doesn't have record of it. "In a majority of cases, this is an innocent murmur, but we need to check it out." So, I need to go have an echocardiogram. Dh thinks that we will have less to pay on this one, since the CT scan used up our deductible, but we'll still owe 20%. I have no idea how much that is going to be! So, should I cancel or go? I also scheduled a mammogram for the same day, because I am way overdue on that. See, going to the doctor just leads to all kinds of trouble. I also have high blood pressure (several readings of 140-144/80-90) and have a prescription for that. Plus, I need to lose weight and exercise (but I already knew that). Everything looked "normal" on my exams, but it will be several days to get the results of the PAP.

Hope it all just a waste of time & money.

I forgot to tell you the bright spot in my week...somewhere along the way from the last time I weighed myself I've lost 25+ lbs If anybody finds them DO NOT send them home

I think the "A" boarding passes go in front of families now. Pre-boards have been greatly reduced. Families with small children board after "A" but before "B".

I've been scouring the web for a law that states notification and haven't found anything remotely for that in Ohio. Though there was this: http://www.headlice.org/report/outbreak.htm Where you can report the outbreak and have information sent to the school...

Yeah, I can't find it either. I have the preschool/daycare regs, the CDC and ODH guidlines, but no specific codes.

She ASKED what she could do quickly to make it look like she had been busy! DH knows I never clean so I don't even pretend.

I remember being checked for lice in 6th grade (FL public school) ALL THE TIME. The teacher was the one who checked us - one by one out in the hallway.

I was often recruited as a head checker at Head Start when all of Billings was going through a huge outbreak....thankfully I never found anything!!
