Elin- Your evening sounds fabulous!

We were to go peach/apple picking at a farm with Dana and her girls this morning but the weather is looking questionable so I think we're gonna hold off. Tonight though is my Aunt's Dessert Party. Her and my mom have been baking for the past 2 days making over 50 desserts. And I know my aunt had already made some cakes and other things and put them in the freezer so I'm sure it's closer to 60. Crazy I tell you!

I know that over the years that are to come that you all are going to have the chance to do things with your kids like I now get to do. I can't wait to read about all your little ones as young men and women! And the things you do with them! :)

I hope you have a ball at the Dessert Party. The sun is actually out here so I may head out to the patio in a bit to take advantage of that surprise turn of events!

I hope so!! Can you imagine all of us say 20 years from now?!?:goodvibes

Enjoy the time out this morning.

Good Morning DDA!

It's raining here...no mowing today! Oh darn. ;) That's ok, I should start packing...or at least find and empty the suitcases.

Good Morning DDA

I will be off line today and part of tomorrow. I am planning for Hal's surprise 60th birthday party for tonight. My DD is to call me this morning to "come over to watch my DGS" really to make potato salad. :rotfl: So far he has absolutely no idea. He is going to be so surprised. I was able to get ahold of a friend that he grew up with and has not seen in over 12 years. Plus a few other surprise people. Tonight is going to be such a fun time for him.

He is telling people he is not 60 but is celebrating his 10th anniversary of his 50th birthday.

We went out with a bunch of teachers that he works with and had sushi. It was such a good time. They really like Hal and like working with him. They also had such things to say about our oldest son. Some of them work with him or sometimes have to go to class with him. "The apple doesn't fall far from the tree" :lmao:

I am sitting here looking at some reports from Ike. Everyone there and in the still path...please stay safe and as dry as you can.

Karen,,,I hope you are doing okay.

What are you booking now? You've got a long wait.

I can't help but feel a little sorry for Diva. This might be your opening to salvage your 'sisterhood'. :wizard:

My last 3 nights for August '09. It has been a long wait. I have been awake since 3:30 AM. I think my neuro system is completely fried.
I do feel a little bit sorry for Diva. When she's not whining.

I hope you are able to get it all worked out, Elizabeth! How is your weather so far? It looks horrible in your lovely state this morning.

I am glad you and DivaGirl are communicating about this. I agree that she is probably lonely. Hopefully she will find a job. I know it is tough in our area. Lots of Kristin's friends who graduated from college in the spring are still without jobs or are working part-time jobs that people like DivaGirl could possibly get in better economic times.

It's cloudy with a little breeze. We aren't supposed to get the serious weather until later, and even then it will be worse to the east of us.
I suspect that Diva is only applying at "cool" places, and with no experience they aren't giving her a second look. And a lot of places won't hire anyone under 18 now.

That's the decision my aunt made. By the time any of the rest of us found out, it was too late. I still have scars from that, but I have found a way to reconcile with it.

Please let Diva in if she is making the effort.

I am sorry that you have to go through all of this.

I don't think she meant it. I think she is frustrated that it is going to take so long to finish the chemo and radiation.

I just realized that I am under 2 weeks for our September trip and in double digits for our December trip!

Packing is always good! ;)

It is raining just a bit now. DH should be headed home within the hour so he won't be out in the thick of it.

I got my last 3 nights of AKV concierge! :dance3: Now I have all 9 nights squared away!

You won't believe this. Randy Pausch's lecture is on PBS right now.

ETA: It just hit me. He was born the same year as Chuck. I never made that connection until now even though I've watched the lecture a couple of times.

It's been on PBS a few times since it was mentioned here. I find it much nicer to watch on TV than on the computer!

Really, if anyone hasn't watched it, keep an eye out for it! We've found it on a few 'public access' type stations.

So I really screwed up tonight. Making spagetti and was checking the noodles - the spoon jumped out of the pan splashing water all over the top of my left hand. I don't think I've ever hurt this bad before from a burn before.

Ouch! I hope it heals quickly! Burns are just terrible.

we are sitting here while Ike passes over head. Here at the house we have only had wind. It lightly rained for a few minutes earlier. Right now it is pretty windy and is suppose to get worse. I am trying to stay calm so Watkins has a pleasant hurricane(even though this is my first one too) experience. Pretty much Galveston is flooded which means my friends house is flooded. If you could send prays for all of Galveston especially Sarah Hall and her family. She seemed pretty shook up earlier. I am just hoping we don't loose power because I use a breathing machine at night and need electricity. Dad did get a generator I just don't want him to have to get up in the middle of the night to start it. ill give a report later on.

:wizard: for your friends and families!

I've been reading a TR by someone who took a summer trip out West very similar to ours. It makes me want to write TRs for that trip and our Disney trip so that we have them. I'm sure that the memories are already fading. Maybe I'll put that on Monday's to-do list to at least get a start.

That's exactly why I've written them in the past. I didn't for our September trip, and hadn't planned on it for our upcoming trips now that they'll be so much 'busier' for a while... but when I read my old ones I feel like I should. They are SO detailed, and provide such great memories! Good luck, I think you should do it! :goodvibes

Thanks! I am trying to convince him to pick a private school or two and just see what kind of package he could get. He said that he'll go SUNY for undergrad. I never know quite how much to push or how much to do for them. I think that it's a huge decision for a 17 year old, but it should be primarily his decision.

I wholeheartedly agree, just from a 'kid' standpoint. My parents would have stopped me, I'm sure, from making any horrible decisions.... but everything else -- where I applied, where I visited, where I ultimately ended up -- was my decision. We had talks about financial prospects at various places, etc, and even now in the repayment phase  I appreciate that ALL of it was primarily my decision. I cherish my experiences before and throughout college so much more I think, because they were what I felt was the right thing for me, and I fell in love with where I was! I am so thankful my parents felt the same way as you do, although I'm sure sometimes it was hard - especially when I was leaning towards such far off places! Enjoy this time, they are big decisions but it's exciting! :goodvibes

No telling. She said other things in her e-mail. Told me a little about her classes, that she is learning about different things in anatomy...
Beth, maybe that's it! Maybe the stuff she is learning in anatomy is forcing her into a new understanding of Mom's condition. That's my Shazam! moment of the day.
She also said she thinks I would like her Humanities teacher.
Maybe Mom went to bed early and Diva was afraid mom felt sick. Perhaps Diva was just feeling a little sad and alone and decided to e-mail. Not sure.

Elizabeth, I can really hear how hard this is becoming on you. I truly do hope that Diva is just growing up a little bit, as others have said. I hope this does wonderful things for your relationship, her relationship with your mom, and her as a person. Please remember you are always on my prayer list!

So we watched Nancy Drew tonight. It was my first Red Box purchase. I can see myself using that a lot. The kids liked it.

Alyssa had a cold. She has been getting up in the middle of the night complaining about her throat hurting. Today it really developed into a full blown cold. Stuffy nose, watery eyes, sneezing. I gave her some sudafed and rubbed some Vicks on her. I hope she can kick before Monday rolls around.

Tomorrow is Nicholas' first football game. The team will all gather at a local shopping center and then caravan the 45 minute drive to the school he will play at. He is excited yet nervous.

Poor Alyssa! Kyle and I both got absolutely SLAMMED with nasty allergy/sinus stuff yesterday. I'm hoping we don't pass anything to the girls (obviously besides the allergies... they're screwed there ;), and they certainly aren't contagious other than genetically! :teeth:). I hope she feels better quickly!

Go Colts! :cheer2: :)

That place is dangerous for me. I polished of that entire bottle of wine by myself at the party the other day. It was so hot and that wine was very refreshing, as long as it was ice cold.

I was thinking about our October day. What are they going to do when the weather turns cooler? Will they have heat out there like they have the misters? I can't wait to try the new foods.

Tammi and Elin, this place sounds SO fabulous! How nice a place to share! :goodvibes

Oh, I hope you can reschedule! I can't believe you can go apple picking already! I hope we have some to pick this year, last year was awful for it! We're planning on going in October. :goodvibes

Woohoo!

All right, with that I'm off probably for the rest of the day. I was up at 3:30 (after the girls ate) to clean the bathrooms, since I couldn't really go back to sleep :crazy2: :rotfl:

Kyle's out mowing now, and I'm finishing up the house, some cooking/baking, etc. People are arriving around 1, and staying for the afternoon.... then tonight a handful of them are staying for the biggest, scariest game of the college football season (OSU vs. USC). I'm not exaggerating when I say my heart absolutely races every time I think about it! Sometimes I'm a little nauseated. Do you think I'm too emotionally invested in football?! :confused3 :rotfl:

Good Morning DDA!

It's raining here...no mowing today! Oh darn. ;) That's ok, I should start packing...or at least find and empty the suitcases.

I am planning to try to mow after the dew comes off the grass. It is lovely here, although a bit humid, and I enjoyed my time reading on the patio.

I thought my little hummingbird friends were gone for the winter, but one came to visit as I sat there. I am glad I had not removed their feeders. :goodvibes

I want to do more packing today too. Kristin said to me last night, "I only need an hour to pack for a week, Mom!" My response to her was that she didn't have to make sure that Bob had clean clothes to pack nor did she have the lack of an hour in one lump very often! :rotfl2:

Love it! Tell him HAPPY BIRTHDAY when he knows about it! ;)

Jennifer - Enjoy your football game!
The only thing that makes me feel that way is calling for WDW ressies. ;) But now mine are done, so maybe I can finally get some sleep! :rotfl:

checking in to see how everyone is dealing with the various weather situations...

we are under major flood warnings....we have already gotten 5 inches in a very short time....it was a stressful night to say the least...

Kristine,,,,,I was just watching the Weather Channel and saw you were getting a lot of rain. Take care

It sounds like our Chicago area friends also need some PD! Flooding that area too, with remnants of Ike headed your direction in a few days. Gosh, folks... we need a few breaks here, Id' say! ::yes::
