DDA Chapter 11

Good Morning DDA,

Sorry I've been MIA, things have been CRAZY at work and I've been working extra hours to try and get things on order.

I have quite a bit of catching up to do but I see Elizabeth's mom could use some PD, :wizard:

My dad made it back home yesterday, I got the whole story when I went to see him yesterday and it was MUCH worse than they let me know when they called. If he hadn't been in Nashville, and only a mile away from the hospital, I wouldn't have a dad today. He is doing well, be he isn't as well as he let on either, but considering what he went through he is doing great.

I'll be returning the favor and remembering those of you in Hannah's path in my prayers.

If you all could continue to lift Kristen and Joel up in your prayers (the friends I mentioned the other day), they got some pretty bad news this week.

Wednesday was Joel's biopsy, and they knew pretty quickly that the cancer had returned. On Thursday, they found that what they suspected "at worst" was true -- there were cancer cells in his spinal fluid. Essentially, after one week of remission, a cancer that had originally been one that - given Joel's age, health, etc - should have been very easily curable, will eventually take his life, although with no approximate timeline even. For now, they are looking at much more aggressive chemotherapy, and then radiation and a bone marrow transplant, assuming they can find a donor.

I know they appreciate and covet all the prayers they can get!

Debbie, thank you so much for checking in! I'm so glad to hear your dad was close to a hospital and made it in time (and that he's doing relatively well now!), although I am sure is disconcerting to hear about what 'actually' took place regarding his health.

Take care of yourselves, and check in when you can -- and don't worry about catching up first! :goodvibes

Good Morning DDA,

Debbie so good to hear from you! Continued :wizard: for dad!

Jennifer sorry to hear this  Prayers & :wizard: for your friends.

I'll be much happier when we hear from Debbie.

You and me both. I thought about giving her a call, but I know she said their cell phones didn't work during Katrina, and if they have no power I didn't want to drain her battery in case she really needs it.

Hey, Amy? If Kevin is Mayor will his face spin around like the Mayor of Halloweentown? That would be cool. ;)

and then Noah would be...

And Elin, Kevin hasn't used the word hctib out loud, but I know he's thinking it. :teeth:

I was bringing Bob up to the minute on all our DDA family just now and he chuckled at my mention of my title 22 years ago. He also reminded me that Kathrin had drawn a picture of me in my robe, riding on a skateboard with my mouth W I D E open. I had forgotten about that. I hope you can find someone to help you out soon, Amy. You need some time alone as much as you need some sleep. Please take care.

It does pass, but right now I know you think I am lying through my teeth.

Thank goodness! I am glad you are doing OK, Debbie. I know that you are so glad to have your Dad back close to you. I hope he continues to recover and his general health improves. I also hope work lets up a bit and you have some down time for yourself.

Jennifer - I will continue to send all my thoughts to your friends. How very sad.

Good morning, DDA!

The heavy rains have begun here. No major wind yet, however.
Depending upon which weather forecast we watch the amount of rain expected here varies greatly. TWC just said around 2" and 40 mph winds. But the local meteorologists are saying 1-2" per hour for several hours and 40-50 mph winds. I hope TWC is correct!

I get to work! :rotfl:

Well that's no fun! ;) I know it used to drive Kyle nuts when I was DOCS at Maxim and would so desperately look forward the weekend! It means nothing to him! :rolleyes1

I hope you have easy days, and enjoy some downtime as well!

Tia and Jennifer... 22 of the past 23 days have had tropical storms and hurricanes affecting Florida in one way or another. I hope this trend stops very soon!!

It is sad. When Kyle's friend died almost 2 years ago, I remember how much my heart ached for her husband. Now, the 'survivor' is my friend, and I can't imagine what she's going through. It doesn't seem fair, but then again when does illness/death ever? They are being remarkable examples of faith.... I would be useless in Kristen's shoes, and she instead is just getting stronger.

Good morning, DDA!

I hope that TWC is right, too! Stay safe and (relatively) dry! :wizard:

We actually had a nice rain yesterday. I mean, it was dreary and I really hated being stuck inside all day, but it was about 12 hours straight of a light rain, which means some of it might have actually penetrated our worthless soil!

Today is still very humid, but the highs are dropping into the lower 80's at least! :yay: According to the 10-day forecast, it looks like they're here to stay, too! Not "fall" if you ask me, but better than the mid-90's we've had all month! :thumbsup2

We went through this same scenario about 18 years ago. Bob's best friend was diagnosed with a very rare form of lung cancer which had spread such as you described. The diagnosis was in August right after they spent their vacation with us and we were not able to get to see him before he died in early December. I was amazed at Brenda's strength. Ten years earlier, immediately following the birth of their only child she had battled (and won) Hodgins and this was more than I think I could have handled. She was so strong. I can only wish that kind of strength for you and your friends, Jennifer.
