DD6 Eczema scarring, help please

DD6 just went through a major rash flare up that started at the crease b/w legs and upper body and went down legs and up torso.

Doctor diagnosed it as eczema (first time being diagnosed)

Doctors prescribed Prednisone to knock it out, a cream called triamcinolone acetonide (like hydrocortisone), and Zyrtec to stop itching. The treatment only took 3 days to clear it up...but now her skin is white (not tan) in all of the rash areas.

Does anyone have any experience with this?? I am wondering if this will become a permanent scar or will it tan later. Should I keep this area of her body covered until later?? Any advice of what I can put on the area to continue the healing process.

The skin does not look scarred...just white in contrast to her tan legs and tummy.

My DD3 has mild eczema which is easy to control with aveno lotion and occasional over the counter hydrocortisone.

My daughter has never had the problem you mention. But she is so, so white - I don't think we could really tell. We keep a ton of sunscreen on her. I would just recommend putting a ton of sunscreen on your daughter to keep her from tanning in the other areas.

I remember getting scrapes as a kid and when the scabs would fall off... that skin was very white and stayed lighter than the rest of my body for the whole summer. But the next year everything tanned the same. Hopefully that is all that this is.

DD19mos has eczema and used to use the same ointment until she had to switch to something stronger. She has the same probllem occasionally, where her skin looks very white around her wrists or ankles. So far though it has always cleared up eventually and blends in with the rest of her skin.

When my son was about 3 he had an excema rash on his belly that was a long line, several inches long. It took a long time to heal and during that time it looked like he had a scar from being slashed with a knife. He's 5 now and it's still there, but really not very noticeable. I only see it because I know it's there. He's pretty tan and it still doesn't stand out.

I'm so pale I've never noticed it either, but I think like the others have said, that it will go away, it'll just take a while.

Some if it might be new skin regrowth, just like after you have a scab and it comes off, it will be white under that too.

For future reference, don't laugh, I learned this on DIS and it WORKS. Put Head and Shoulders shampoo on the rash, like you would with lotion, and it will clear it up. Both my boys have eczema and it WORKS. The Eledel cream works great too BUT, they have discovered that it increases the chance for skin cancer so we don't use it anymore.

Thank you all for your advice. You're right, when a scab comes off, the skin underneath is white too! I'm not so worried anymore. My DH was like..."I hope she isn't scarred for life". Then I was thinking...me too! I think I'll coat it with lots of sunscreen for the rest of the summer to help it even out.

golfgal - thank you for the Head and Shoulders advice. I guess eczema might be kind of like dandruff.
