DD6- autoinflammatory and autoimmune disease- liver surgery

Something to check into with your insurance, often if you MEET your deductible in the last quarter, Oct, Nov, Dec, it will carry over for NEXT year. This isn't for all plans but some do. You should also check with the school district and see if she can have a home tutor. In MN if a child is out for an extended illness they are entitled to a home tutor provided by the school. Their teacher will send work home for them to do and the tutor will conduct the lessons. This keeps her up on what the kids in her class are doing too.

I had no idea all of this was going on.. I can only imagine what a toll it has taken on all of you..:(

Although the prospects of surgery are always scary ones, I'm glad that you went back through the Mayo doctors and can have this done now - rather than somewhere else on an emergency basis..:goodvibes

Will you have someplace to stay during her hospitalization?

I'll be sure to include your DD in my prayers tonight - and every night - until all is well and she's back home..

Big, big hug to your DD for being such a brave little girl - and hugs for the rest of you too..:hug::hug:

I am so sorry you are all going through this :grouphug:
It is so hard when a child is ill, and harder when surgery is needed. I will hope, pray, and just about dance with good thoughts for your daughter.

I agree about the 2 surgeries at once. Get it over with, recover, and move past it.

If you need a shoulder, or just to vent, whatever, feel free to PM me.

Also, thank you for updating us. I remember your postings. :grouphug::flower3:

Thank-you for the update, mykidsandi. I have been wondering how your daughter is doing. I am glad that surgery is available to repair her liver. You've been through so much already. You're in my prayers....

I'll be thinking of her, and saying some prayers. Remember to take care of yourselves as well. Keep us posted when you can.

I've been thinking of you all and wondering how things were. I'll continue to keep you in my thoughts. Please update as you can.

Oh, my goodness! I'm sure you're glad to be able to put a name to her illness finally, but the cure sounds pretty awful. :scared1: I hope everything goes well and she can get some relief soon.

I have also been wondering about your DD. I'm sorry she needs surgery, but I know she will get excellent care at that facility. I will pray that everything goes well.

I had read your original thread and was wondering how things were going. Your little girl and the rest of your family are certainly in my prayers.

 Thanks for the update and I will be keeping your DD and family in my prayers:hug:

She isn't really nervous about the surgery yet either- but I know she will be! She's actually excited about the idea that she will have a bed that she can adjust and a 'menu' of food options given to her daily where she can choose (maybe not the first few days, but after)...I don't think that she'll be on anything more than liquids for a few days. She's excited about getting to stay and having everyone wait on her- I don't think she fully understands how horrible she'll probably be feeling. I've told her that she'll feel 'sick' and may have a stomach ache, but she doesn't really understand.

I think what you have told her is just right, and hopefully she won't be as miserable as you think. Pain management is HUGE with Joint Commission now, and I can only imagine a place like Mayo would be on the cutting edge of keeping patients comfortable. Also, if she isn't *expecting* to feel terrible, it's less likely that she will, if that makes sense.

Taking her to buy some special things to take with her is a great plan. Things like crayons and coloring books are always good too. She can bring her favorite DVDs, but the hospital should have a library where you can check them out as well. Find out if their Child Life program does a pre-operative tour for kids. If so, that would be great for her. They explain things like the mask for the anethesia in ways a child can understand. She can even start thinking about what flavor she would like. My dd had minor surgery and was very excited to choose her flavor. They had everything from chocolate to Dr. Pepper!

I'll be thinking of you and praying for you on the 16th!

ETA - selecting food from the menu is also fun for kids, but in case they don't have anything on there she likes, she can possibly choose something like a hamburger, chicken fingers, pizza, or fries, as long as that's on her diet, even if it's not on the menu. :) You can also always order things like pudding and jello, that are great for when she first starts eating.

I'm so sorry your DD has to have surgery but it sounds like she'll be in a great hospital that does this type of surgery alot:hug: I will keep her in my thoughts and your whole family too.

 What an ordeal. I am so happy it is over, and you are all home.

Praying that recovery goes smoother, and each day is a little easier.:grouphug::flower3:

So glad to hear that she has made it back home. Did they end up taking her appendix also, or just the liver surgery? I was thinking about your family last week and wondered how you were all doing. What a horrible way to spend the holidays. I really hope she is feeling better and you are all getting more rest by Christmas. Homework would be sooooo far off my radar right now if I were you. She's young, and this is a really crazy situation, I wouldn't even worry about it.

I hope her recovery goes smoothly,
hug to you too mom!

and I agree with the PP, do not even worry about homework. In fact, I would just withdraw her and declare her an official homeschooler at this point and then you don't have to worry about it. or do anything with the school at all.
she is only 6. when she is well she can catch up and jump back in.
:)

So glad that you are home. I pray that things only improve from here:hug: What a little trouper she is!!
