Help
I am looking for a new stroller (umbrella0 to take to Disney. Problem is that my DD is very tall and she is too tall for the usual umbrella. Her head pushes on or against the canopy. Living is Fla we need a canopy. I was looking at the maclarens. But any help/ advice on any brand is welcome!! Does anyone have an umbrella with an older child? Dd is 5. How is weight limit? and height?

Thanks so much!!!

I just bought the jeep one and the canopy could be flipped over or adjusted in a way that it didnt sit right on the kids head. my dd is 41 inches and 4 y/o at 31lbs and did fine with it. Im not sure on the weight limit though.

I would like to know this too! We searched last fall for an umbrella or lightweight stroller that would accomadate DD's height and weight and would have a canopy and storage basket. Now DD is not extra tall but her legs were hanging on the ground or on the wheels on many of the strollers. Many of the strollers seemed to top out at a weight limit of 40 pounds only a few we found went to 45 lbs. We looked at every baby store, Target, Toys-R-Us, Wal-Mart etc. Since we never found the right stroller we ended up taking DD's full size Graco stroller again to WDW which worked out fine but I had been hoping for something lighter weight.

I know what you are going through. My DD's head hits the canopy and hr knees stick up high in the regular umbrella. I have not tried the Jeep with her. Any others?

Here's a stroller that I use for my 4 1/2 yr old that we absolutely love. I believe it accomodates a child up to 45 lbs., has a basket underneath and 4 pt. reclining seat. Also, the handles are a lot higher than a regular umbrella stroller so its easier for a taller parent to push. The canopy is arched so he fits easily underneath it. It folds easily and compactly and isn't that heavy. We used it last year at WDW and it was well worth it. The price on this site seems a bit steep to me though- I purchased mine at Babies R Us w/a coupon and I believe it was around $45 or $50. Good luck!

We have that same stroller and love it! We have taken it everywhere...including DWD! It is sooo easy to fold! It especially has all the features I like! I does hold larger kids, it has a nice size basket, it reclines and has a canopy! The only thing it doesn't have is a cupholder...so we bought 1 and attached it! This stroller is definitely a MacClaren knock-off!

:p

but my dd did not look comfortable in it. her feet did not sit comfortably on the footrest and her knees were up in her chest it seemed. I liked the stroller but it was not a good fit for us.

We took our daughter's jeep stroller to Disney last year. It is the model that looks like a jogging stroller and has the single bicycle wheel in the front and the double bicycle wheels in the back. It is the best stroller we have ever owned. We have had every brand you can think of and this is our favorite. My daughter is very tall, off the charts for her age, and she fits so nice in it and the canopy has great sun protection for her. We took the stroller to the gate with us on the plane and they checked it for us since it would not fit in the overhead bin. When we got off the plane it was there waiting for us. We had many people stopping us in Disney to ask us where we got our stroller, that it looked so cool, and my daughter was so comfortable in it. She even took a 2 hour nap in it each day. I would hesitate to buy an umbrella stroller since they are not that roomy or comfortable for the kids and they do spend a long day in them at the parks!:wave2:

we have the Chicco 2002, also sold as the Trekking - it's not a cheap stroller, but my 6 year old can ride in it - it's not for her, it's for the baby, but last year we put the baby in the carrier and let the 6 year old ride late at night and she was fine in it

I have a MacLaren and I love it!!! Wouldn't trade it for anything.

My son is now 5 and it still fits him just fine. I don't remember which model it is, but I think all of the MacLarens are so well made that they are fine for bigger and older kids. By the way, my DS is about 44-45 inches tall and the canopy fits just fine. We also have the rain shield which doesn't bother his legs either.

Good luck!

I recently bought the Chicco London Stroller for $40. It is a sturdy, lightweight stroller that is easy to fold up. I bought it a Value City (Gurnee, IL).

I am hoping this link works, so you can see a picture.

I like it because of the BIG basket underneath, it reclines, has a domed-type hood, and the FREE rain canopy. Also, my 60 pound, 48" DD6 fits into it (yes, she is over the weight limit, but it's doing the job)! I am able to click the foot area meant for babies up, and it makes the seat area long enough for my DD.

Bleaubleau8853, which Maclaren do you have? Also, chop456 how is the weight limit on the london? Thanks!

The London weight limit says 33 pounds. However, my 6 year-old (60 pounds) is able to ride in it. I know she is way over the weight limit, but I could not find a reclining w/ canopy umbrella-type stroller anywhere... priced reasonably of course! I forgot to mention that the handles are great for those of us who are tall, no need to hunch over while pushing!

Daisylove-

I am so sorry, I can't remember which one it is...although Vogue is coming to mind, but I can't confirm that. We bought it about two years ago and what I can tell you is that is does recline I think into either two or three positions down, it has a great basket and I love the length of the handles and how well it steers. I had a Peg Parego before and it was so hard to push sometimes, especially if I was just using one hand. Also they collapse so easily!

One thing I wanted to mention is that their customer service is awesome. I had a friend who's recline broke (no fault of the stollers, somehow something got stuck in it from the basket when they went to colapse it) and they fixed it for free even though it was over a year old.

I know they are kind of expensive, but they last forever and I chalk it up to spending more instead of having to buy two or three after they break.

All the best!

My DW and I purchased this stroller as well for our last trip this past December. While it is a bit heavier than most umbrellas, it folds up nice, and is definitely a plus for us taller parents. I'm 6'3", and don't have any problems walking and wheeling this stroller around.
