DD10 has an appt in the AM at the pediatrist for her ingrown toenail, she is a bit nervous. She is scared that they are going to have to do the "surgery" and doesn't know what to expect. So, if you could spare some PD, it would be nice. Thanks in advance. :wave2:

UPDATE!!!

DD went to pediatrist, and had her "surgery"! She was terrified! They put that needle (and whoever told me to watch... EWWWWWWWW) in and OMG, it HAD to hurt, she said the COLD stuff hurt, lol.

But she got through it and is NOW playing soccer...

Good luck to her. My DS had two ingrown nails removed over the summer. The worst part...

(don't let her see this).......

was the needle to numb it. The rest was a piece of cake. He had to soak it for a week or so, but was allowed to resume normal activities immediately.

{{{HUGS}}} for your DD. I hope her "surgery" is painless and that she makes a quick recovery.

I've never had this procedure so I have no experience to share.

I totally understand how she feels. When I was younger I had a VERY bad ingrown toe nail. I was scared to death but it turned out to be not so bad. It can be a scary experience especially because they hurt so much. Sending lots of PD-:wizard:

Poor kid. I hope they are able to take care of it without surgery. Good luck.

She asked me if they were going to put her to sleep   I said "no, they will most likely NUMB the toe" her eyes got REAL wide, cause she knows it means a needle...

Her toe is NASTY!!! It is REALLY BAD! And I am NOT exaggerating! It is all infected and swollen! The dingbat Dr who she went to TONIGHT, was the same one who ON THE 6th of OCTOBER, said "it isn't an INGROWN TOENAIL"!

I um, well... lets just say I made a total BUTT out of him tonight when I took her BACK and said "that hangnail you said she had, is the INGROWN TOENAIL *I* said she had!!!!"

Can we say QUACK?

Never had it done but lots of PD on it's way to your DD.

She'll be fine. She'll actually feel much better as soon as the nail is removed (IF that's what has to be done). My son's nails were really badly infected...the doctor was amazed.

Just hold her hand and keep her distracted. DO NOT let her look. If you have a strong stomach, it's actually kind of cool to watch. I leaned over my son to watch...served two purposes, (1) made it so he couldn't see and (2) let me see how it was done.

I had one done back when I was about her age (probably back before anesthesia, LOL) and it was not all that bad. Sure felt good to get it taken care of.'s Heather.

One more thing...it's QUICK! I'd say we were in and out (for 2 nails) in under a 1/2 hour.

I agree with sweet angel's first post and the second, NO WAY!!!! I also agree with her third post. I am not one to watch things being done to me!

A bit of advice to help keep the toenail from having it happen either on the other toe or the surgery toe is to cut the nail straight across. My problem was I would peel the nail off instead of cutting or when I got off my lazy rear to cut it I would round it out. NONONONONO! Never again. Rounding it causes it to start growing in!

Lots of PD and hugs to your DD.
I think not knowing what to expect is the scariest part.

One of my sons gets bad ingrown toenails. Even after the dr "cut" it out. I would suggest they you try to take her to get a pedicure first. These helped my ds more than the dr did and its much less painful.

Well, she goes at 8:30 in the morning... and then she wants to go to school after, so I shall let you all know how she did. Thanks for the hugs, and PD....

You are all the best!!!! :teeth:

We're old pros with this. The podiatrist loves us. ;) Chelsea, 13, just had her 5th one done 2 weeks ago. The first time they did not do the permanent fix and it came back again later. The next time I said to do it permanently. She's had both sides of both big toes fixed now so we're really hoping we're done with it!

They should give your DD a shot to numb the toe. They may have some instant freeze stuff they can spray on it before the shot. I won't kid you, she doesn't like the shot. They hit a nerve in Chelsea's toe once with the shot and she nearly jumped out of the chair that time. Usually she just sqeezes my hand during the shot. After that it's a breeze. The Dr. will clip out the edge of the nail and put something down in the toe to keep the nail from growing back.

The recovery is fairly easy. Chelsea is always dancing again in 2 or 3 days.

Hope all goes well for your dd. It's all over very quickly and she will feel so much better afterward. :)

PS. I hope you're not going back to the "quack" Dr.
