DD Sam has decided she wants to buy a mobile phone with what is left of her Birthday Money. She has about £52 left after splurging on frivolous things (lots of cuddly animals) so not a huge amount!

We are looking for a Pay as you Go and just wondered if anyone out there knows of anywhere online or shops where they don't cost the earth!

We have seen one on the Comet website which is a T-mobile, has anyone used one of these, how do they rate?

Thanks :D

Mazzy, I think to be honest £52 for a mobile phone is way below budget, according to a friend who works in this market they are now in the process of phasing out pay as you talk mobiles, apprently its cheaper to buy one on a contract, because you have the benefits of free minutes free text messages and cheaper call charges, plus incentives like free camera's DVD players etc. There are still cheaper pay as you go phones still avaible, but if your DD is anything like mine or other kids her age, they want to be able to have multiple ringtones.logo's etc, and some models dont always do this.
T mobile is the new one out, nothing differant to the others.I think theres a company called phones direct?, who are doing good offers at the mo, im currently coming to the end of my contract so ive been looking alot over the last few days.Ill mail you some websites as Ill probaly be looking again later.

I just bought a first mobile for my DD last week. Like you, I had planned on getting a Pay As You Go, but ended up with going for a contract. Basically I worked out that if my DD was never actually going to use the phone (i.e. just keep it at the bottom of her school bag for emergencies) then a Pay as You Go would be slightly cheaper. However, if she was actually going to use the thing - which she will - then a contract would be cheaper.

I opted for the Orange Everytime 20 package which costs around £15 pm and includes 20 minutes of talk time to other mobiles. On top of this I added a text package which gives 30 text messages a month for £2.

I got the phone - a Nokia 3330e - from http://www.mobiles.co.uk

The phone was free and came with 4 spare sets of covers, a cuddly phone cover, hands free kit, car charger, solar radio etc. etc.

Hope this helps
Paul
