When will this viscious cycle end for me and my family? We can't seem to get a break this year.

Within the past few days DD noticed she couldn't wink with one eye and that half her mouth wasn't working normally. She also had pain behind her ear and behind her knee. I thought the ear pain was internal and caused by her molars coming in. (she's 13) I never put all the symptoms together, never saw the trademark rash, so I thought nothing of it until I really saw how her mouth didn't seem to be working. I was concerned that she had Bell's Palsy, but know of no history in either family. She had a fever a few weeks ago, but again, I thought it was linked to teeth coming in since she had no other symptoms.

I called the Dr. first thing this morning and they scheduled an appt. right away. The Dr. diagnosed Lyme disease and prescribed Doxycycline and ordered blood tests. We'll have the results in a few days and will treat with steroids and antibiotics until we know for sure. If the test is postitive, DD will stop taking the steriods but continue with the antibiotic. Hopefully we've gotten to treatment at an earlier enough stage to preent further damage.

Sounds like you're doing all the right things for her. Prayers that the meds kick in and she can recover soon.

Hugs to you -- lyme is so scary. Two of my neighbors dogs have it, which makes me a nervous wreck. The good news is that it is highly treatable when caught early and it looks like you did. I'm sure she'll have a 100 percent recovery.

Prayers and Hugs for a full recovery.........Faith:hug:

Results from the blood test came back today (that was fast) confirming that DD does have Lyme disease. The good news is that the antibiotics will cure the symptoms, including clearing up the Bell's Palsy.

Sunday was a good day. She felt good all day, no aches behind her knee or ear. She had only taken 2 doses of the meds and they already seemed to be working.

She learned the hard way today that you must not lie down for 30 minutes after taking the Doxycycline. It will cause vomiting if not left to be absorbed.

I hope she feels better soon, and that your family gets a break.

Good to hear she has a diagnosis, Kris, and is able to be treated. My best, she will be in my prayers.'s
