I need to crow a little :hyper:

Lauren passed the 4th grade Texas TAKS math test!! I am so excited. We have been so stressed that she would not pass. Math is her worst subject (just say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree). Up until about a month ago we really didn't think she would.

Reason:

-3rd 6-weeks math grade - 68
-4th 6-weeks math grade - 76
-Tutor hired to prepare for TAKS because there was no hope!
-5th 6-weeks math grade - 90!!

Her wonderful math teacher and her tutor worked together to make sure she was as prepared as could be when test time came.

If she didn't pass the TAKS we weren't going to WDW because she would be in summer school all of June. I just found this out from her principal so Lauren doesn't even know it yet!!! Celebration tonight at our house. :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Woo-Hooo!!!!

Tell Lauren we'll all celebrate her TAKS success on Sunday! (And hopefully, my DS's TAKS success, too! Does this mean the kids will be bringing their scores home today?)

Congratulations! Asked 9yo DD and they didn't get their results, a little nervous about hers but hopefully will get the all clear soon.

TAKS results will come home next Thursday with report cards. I kind of blackmailed the principal into telling me if she passed or not! I do the school newsletter and her article was late so I told her I would give her more time if she told me whether or not she passed. Actually, all the 4th graders passed!

HAHA I like your thinking. And congrats on your daughter passing. A six'er and a pack of smokes is due for her!

Ok, I'm kidding. Send them to me :)

YEAH!! What good news!!!!! Congratulations to your daughter - and to your family. ;)

WAY TO GO LAUREN!!!! :thewave: :thewave:

I know just how you feel! My daughter (3rd grade) has a mild learning disability and has struggled quite a bit this year. After tutoring plus lots of practicing, we just found out she passed, also! I'm so proud of all her hard work!

Congrats to your dd....but if you don't mind what is TAKS???

aMEN!!

Boy do I know the trials and errors of praying for a good grade in MATH! Talk about the apple not falling far from the tree, my son and I both excel in Language arts but UGH in anything concerning numbers....

Well over the Christmas vacation I hired a tutor... a NINE YEAR OLD HOMESCHOOLED GIRL! My son was HORRIFIED but boy did she make a difference in his grade! He went from an F to a C... which was a BIG deal!

Over the summer my sister is paying for Kumon tutoring, which worked wonders for him in reading when he was in kindergarten. I hope his Math scores can catch up with his other subjects, which BTW he gets A's in!

:bounce: :bounce: Congratulations, Lauren!! We feel your pain!!

Looked it up: The Texas Assessment of Knowledge and
Skills (TAKS™) is a completely reconceived testing program.

We have the IOWA and the CRCT. BTW I H-A-T-E these kind of tests!!!

Great news!!!!! Celebrate at Grapevine on Sunday!!!!!!! (sure wish I could be there)

Thanks all! I can't wait until DH gets home from work so we can tell her! I will bring her here later and let her see all the congrats. She will be thrilled. She already loves the DIS boards!

The TAKS is a monster that keeps regenerating. A lot of kids passed last year so they felt they needed to make it harder. 3rd graders have to pass reading or they don't advance. So many passed this year that AFTER scores were sent home they upped the score that a child needed to get to pass. Affected several thousand children. Lots of unhappy parents. There is so much pressure on the kids and the teachers that sometimes it seems like the teacher is really teaching the TAKS.

I just showed them to her and she is very excited at the prospect of a 6-pack of root beer and a pack of gum!

She said to say thank you to all of you for your congratulations. She was very excited. Actually had tears in her eyes.

Congratulations to your daughter from a fellow math hater!:teeth:
