As some of you may remember my DH has been notified that he will ge deploying to Iraq soon. We knew he was leaving the 12 of July, but figured there was plenty of time in June after kids got out of school for them to spend time together. Well all that changed yesturday when we were notified that as of June 1st he has to report to Texas for a language school. He'll be gone for 30 days and then home for 8 before heading out again. My little bubbleprincess was all set for her first year at church camp and wouldn't you know it falls right in that "window" that daddy will be home briefly for. We all came to the conclusion that family time is short and precious and that she would have to wait till next year for her first camp experience. It broke my heart as she bravely cried that even if she went to camp she would be missing her daddy so she knew she had to stay home with him for that last week. She than went on to ask "why that bad guy is so bad".
:(
There are no answers for her. The children of these brave men/women are the ones who are the heros right there along side their parents as far as I'm concerned. Its such a price we ask of them all.................:worried: (sorry for the vent I feel so bad for her)

What a shame! Can you give her your own little campout? You know -- set up a tent (either inside or out, depending on our unpredictible weather!) and do s'mores. You could really have some fun with it and make it a special night for DD.

Have fun and enjoy your time together before DH is deployed!!!

Awwww, give her a big hug for me.

I know you will fill the gap, kids fuss for awhile but they get through, they always do if Mommy loves and acknowledges their pain.

I can tell that you do.

God bless your family,

Robinrs

vent away... it's hard enough without trying to explain to kids why things are like they are. My prayers are with you and your family. (((((HUGS)))))

Awww!! I'm sorry you're having to go through this.
We have the same issue for the opposite reason. Benji was supposed to go to cancer camp the first week of June. And that's when daddy is coming home from his deployment.
I'll be keeping you and your family in prayer.
God bless,

Are you sure they can't reschedule church camp for her and maybe one of her good friends, given the circumstances?

I liked Calypso's idea of a family campout! What great memories for DD, DH and all of you to treasure!!

Just wanted to say thanks for all you and so many others do, and let you know you are all wished the best. Thanks .

Is it a week long Vacation Bible School type thing? I know that Chruches in my area pretty much all have it and all do it on different weeks. Maybe you could go to a different church and sign her up? I worked as a counselor for a couple of years at VBS, and I saw a bunch of kids who weren't members of our church.

Hugs for your dd and for your family. Why is that bad guy so bad?:(

Exact same boat - my youngest has to give up his first year of hockey camp, something he has looked forward to for 3 years, cause Daddy has to go "over there".

Hang in there, that's all we can do...
