Life sure is interesting, isn't it?

My five year old, started having little red circular spots (looking like bug bites) on her back last Thursday.. since then they have been on her legs and spread up and her sleeve area and have spread up.

She was playing in a part of the baseball field which does have some poison ivy.. so first I thought it was that.

Then one of the baseball moms call and let us know that one of the kids had chickenpox, and was diagnosed AFTER the game. (of course DD was at this game!) We got the phone call a week ago about this player.

She has had the varicella shot, but I looked at both varicella and poison ivy pictures on the web, and it could be either one.

I called the pediatricians office and they can't get her in until tomorrow.

Of course, we have never had the poison ivy or chicken pox in the house...

This isn't much help, but my DD had chicken pox in January and the nurses and doctors just played a guessing game. They say it's very hard to tell for sure. She too had the shot so it made her case very mild. Good luck with your DD.

hiya
have the spots turned into little blisters.......then they scab over.....if so ......yes chicken pox....
over here (UK) they dont give vaccine against it.
If she is itching best thing I found when my 2 DD's caught it last year.....was oatmeal in an old pair of tights tied up at the end........run it under tap when filling a bath......then let her play with the 'snake' the oatmeal moisturises the skin and does give relief from itching.

Good luck
:D

we dont have poison ivy in uk tho....so cant help there

poison ivy can blister and scab too...

cindy, if they are pretty uniform smalll circles i would guess chicken pox. when i had poison ivy and poison oak it was not uniform at all -- very splotchy and large blobs on my arm.

of course, i am not a doctor, nor do i play one on tv. ;)

If they started on her back, I would guess chicken pox. Warn her not to scratch. My daughter had them last winter and ended up with an infection that put her in the hospital for 9 days. While she had a temperature of 104 a germ got into one of the pox and it spread. Whew! It was not a pretty picture. Hope your daughter feels better soon.

If it started last Thursday and it is chicken pox she will be clearing up soon-also there is a 14 to 21 day incubation on chicken pox-if she has it she did not get it from that baseball player. If there is no runny nose or fever it could be either.-maybe should see the doctor-also she was contagious before the spots appeared so the damage is pretty well done.

My dd ran a slight fever when she had chicken pox. She was also a lot on the irritable side. Hers started on her back too. Do you have any benedryl? That'll help for both cp and poison ivy/oak.

She had no fever or sickness. My son has no symptoms either.

I actually looked on some dermatology websites today, and saw varicella pictures and Poison Ivy pictures. What she has looks like it could be either. (either a mild case of poison ivy or a mild case of chicken pox.)

She seems fine, but itchy.
