DD has peanut allergy,need suncreen

We are going to WDW in Dec..but I guess we'll need sunscreen before then
but everytime we put sunscreenon her her eyes water,her nose runs,she gets red puffy eyes..sometimes some hives. We have tried sooo many it's uneal. I have heard that sunscreen can be a problem with peanut allergy? I read the labels and didn't see anything listed. Anything else it would be called in sunscreen or any suggestions on what brand to try next??

According to California Baby, all California products are free of "nut oils", "gluten", "soy", "oats", "dairy", "sulfates", "DEA", "colors", "dyes", "synthetic fragrances" and more. They also sell other nut-free, gluten-free, soy-free, oat-free, dairy-free sunscreens as well as other toiletries.

My DD9 has peanut/tree nut allergies. We use Water Babies by Coppertone. There was also one other by Nuetrogena (sp?) that she does ok with. Every other sunblock we've tried has given her a rash, even the ones meant for babies.

It could be that your DD is allergic to something other than nuts. Perhaps an ingredient common to most sunscreens? I'd ask her ped or allergist for recommendations.

My oldest DS was exactly like this whenever we put sunscreen on him. His nose would be running his eyes watery and he would use his arm to wipe them which only put more sunscreen right in his eyes and made it worse.

OT- His allergy tests showed he is allergic to peanuts--funny thing is that he loves peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and has never had a reaction to eating one --LOL-- he is the only one of my three kids that will eat it and the only one that shouldn't.

He is 7 now and does better with the adult sunscreens. But when he was little I would try not to use any on him and try more to cover him up instead--- the long sleeve surf shirts, sun hat with chin strap. Sometimes he looked so funny all covered up like winter instead of summer but he didn't care he just wanted to play in the water without his nose runnning all over the place and eyes watering!!

The ones that are creamy and readily available are chemical sunblocks; powders that you brush on are a physical sunblock - or something like that. Anyway the powders are supposed to be better for your skin. It may be worth further investigation.

A sunscreen that lists zinc oxide as a major ingredient is a physical sunblock, making it effective immediately. Neutrogena makes a great one. It's a white cream. If you were to buy plain old zinc oxide cover, it would be a thick cream, in a tube or jar.

A sunscreen that states that you need to wait after application before sun exposure is a chemical sunscreen. They can be white as well, have some zinc oxide, or they could be pink, purple, etc. They tend to be more waterproof, sweatproof, but they can also cause skin reactions.

My very sensitive melanoma-prone skin does well with the Neutrogena Physical Block for Sensitive Skin.

My DD has eczema and a peanut allergy and would end up with itchy skin when using any popular brand sunblocks. Our pharmicist reccommended Vanicream and it has been great. It is the only sunblock we use now. CVS can special order it for you. It is available on drugstore.com, so you could order it there, too.

My daughter has quite a few allergies and cannot use most sunblocks. Coppertone and Banana Boat are the worst for her.

We only use No-Ad on her and it is great. No reaction at all. Walmart carries it on occasion, as does Kmart. We always have luck finding it at our local surf shops. You can also order it online.

They have quite a few different types. Baby, Sport, Kids, stick, spray, etc.

I only use Penaten in heavy sun for my kids. Great trick I learned from visit to Magic Kingdom first aid.

never ever had a sun burn or even the slightest tan on my kids, and it is entirely waterproof.

and gentle enough for newborns

Ditto on the California Baby- it's good stuff! It was the only thing I felt comfortable putting on my fair skinned, red-head when he was small. I really do like their products. Target carries some, but not the sunscreen. It's easy to find online though.

My son has reactions to most sunscreens too. The ones we have found to work for him are blue lizard and neutrogena sensative skin. Also arbon baby sunscreen. Of course all the sunscreens he can use are the most expensive.

His worst are coppertone and baby faces.

DS also has severe peanut allergies.
We have used California Baby products for him as well.
Labels on 'beauty products' are really tough for nut allergies b/c of unclear labelling....ie - Shea butter products are nut-derived - We have to be really careful on what we use on DS b/c he has had reactions as well.

my son also has nut allergies and would get the puffy/runny eyes from many lotions and one thing that i frequently found was coconut oil.

i am sorry i don't remember the exact name of the last one we used, but what was very helpful was that it was a sun block stick that we used on his face. i was a little skeptical at first (it seemed like a glue stick!), but it didn't run or rub off into his eyes and it was easy to get around his face without getting his eyes. all i could think about when we used it was that my kids were going to start using glue sticks on their faces when we got home !
