DD Dancing Trip to DLRP 22nd – 26th Oct 2006 Part 4/5

Tuesday 24th October 2006

All up early again, and down for breakfast at 7.45am. I thought I’d better make dinner reservations for the next 2 nights for our entire group. Went to the concierge desk in the hotel where a lady in front of me was trying to book for the Blue Lagoon and was told the only slot left for the whole of the day was 4pm! I booked for the Silver Spur Steakhouse at 6pm for tonight, and Cape Cod in the hotel for Wed, our last night, at 7pm. We were in the Yacht Club again for breakfast and it was quiet. Had got DD dancing stuff ready for her big day – today she was dancing in the Fantasyland stage at 12pm and 1pm! After breakfast DD and I left the others and set off for the park entrance. We spotted the bus outside of the hotel so opted to save her legs a little and hopped on it! We were outside the train station in no time, and decided to take my work colleagues advice (coach drivers – they know these things!) and pop into the station to buy DD snacks and drinks for the day. There was a lovely little shop with fresh baguettes and pastries in.

Then we headed for the main entrance where the dancers were gathering, just behind the large Mickey flower bed. All were there for 9.15am and had various photo’s of the group taken for the local papers! They all headed off to the right of the entrance and I sat on the wall by the flower bed waiting for the rest of my group to arrive, in the meantime I called my best friend back in the UK coz I was nervous for DD!! I know the mobile bill will be big but there are sometimes when you just need to talk!!

I saw the dancers walk across the main entrance again and head into the left side! My lot arrived just after 10 and we entered the park, waving to the dancers as we saw them coming through the turnstiles on the left. As the boys wanted scary hair (!) we decided to avoid Main Street and take the ‘back route’ to Frontierland. We walked through Liberty arcade came upon Minnie Mouse, with only 2 kids having pics taken! While we were taking photo’s DD and the dancers all walked through the arcade too! Into Frontierland and we picked up fast passes for BTM for 2pm. The scary hair salon didn’t open until 11am, but for some reason there was a rope around it and the large pipe, now orange with pumpkin men on. We thought it was something to do with it being very windy today. To pass the time we headed into the great shop near by. We bought DS a reversible padded blue and check Mickey shirt, and DD a green cord hand bag with Winnie the Pooh on – as a treat for dancing! We had our purchases sent to the hotel for collection.

When we came out, the hair salon was still deserted so we asked a CM who told us it had been moved for today to near the Indian Village, so we headed off there to find not a very big queue outside of a small building. It was around 10.50am and we waited. And waited. It was painfully slow.

At 11.50 DH, BIL, SIL, decided to head to the Theatre for the first show (as I thought) of the dancing. I said I’d catch the second show at 1pm as we’d surely be done by then (!). NO WE WEREN’T!! Just before 1pm DNeice and I left my friend with the boys, still queuing, and headed to the theatre. There was a lot of people in to watch the show, not sure how many were family and friends though! It lasted about 20 minutes and they all did really well. BUT it wasn’t the same as the first show – that had lasted a similar length but must have been ‘the first half’! I was gutted! I’d missed one of DD dances! DH hadn’t videoed it as he’d been crying!! He always does when she dances, or when the kids do anything actually!

We came outside to wait for the dancers, yet more photo’s for them, and then they were free to go. A man at the theatre had told them they don’t usually get as many in the audience and 400 had been watching them. Don’t know if that was over the 2 shows though. My friend and the boys with their hair arrived shortly after we got out, yes their hair was good but not worth the 2 hour wait, and there’s not a lot you can do with boys’ short hair!!

Scary Hair Boys!

Lunch next in Colonel Hathi’s Pizza outpost, which was fine. I’d heard bad reports about it, but the kids had nice pasta Bolognese and we had perfectly acceptable pizza’s. We’d had a couple of showers during the day but not much really. After lunch it was BTM with our fast passes and only a few minutes wait, it was about 2.30pm and we were late for our fast pass time but weren’t questioned at all.

The kids were eager to see the studios, so it was there next, and straight onto the studio tram tour, which everyone thought was brilliant! Again, slightly different to the one in WDW, the tram cars rock individually which was a good effect. Then the big one – Rock n Roller coaster! DD, me, (been on a few times in WDW), Dneice, friend and her 8 year old son, and my DS – he was just big enough to go on, and never done an upside down ride before! There was very little queue and no one was watching the pre ride show, just walking straight through to the queuing area. Both little boys said they need a wee just as we were about to get on, guess it was the nerves! Yes again it’s different to WDW but still WOW!! I actually liked this one better than WDW, as there are no luminous ‘road signs’ I could keep my eyes open and catch glimpses of the track. Still not keen on that start though! The best bits are the 2 cork screws – long drawn out ones and you do serious air!! DS said he’d do it only once but as soon as we got off he wanted to do it again! His ride photo was amazing – the scariest face I’ve ever seen!!! We did it again with very little wait.

On the way into Halloweenland!

Headed back to Disneyland park for dinner in the steakhouse, and got shown straight to our table. It had a nice atmosphere and there were a few other people in but not too busy. We ordered, most had prawn cocktail starters, and steaks for main course. The service was extremely slow, the kids had finished their meals and desserts before we’d even had our mains. The kids meals were very good, much better the adults. I was extremely disappointed with the food. It was 25 euros for the 3 courses. The starters were ok, but the steak was no different than I could do at home (and I’m not a good cook!) and came with a million oven chips and nothing else!! Not a veg or bit of salad in sight! My friend asked for the chicken, and it was dry chicken breast and chips! DD and Dneice ordered an alcohol free Halloween cocktail, which was really nice, and had dry ice on the bottom of the glass!

Halloween Cocktail

We had sat down at 6pm and had hoped to get out to catch a few late rides before closing but it was 8.20pm when we left the restaurant. Frontierland was all atmospheric as Halloweenland, and the CM’s were waiting to guide us through the gates into Main Street. Here were a few people wandering around and the shops were still open. No one was rushing us out, and it was lovely with all the lights on and not many people, it felt very personal, that definitely made the rubbish meal worthwhile. I stood at the bottom of Main Street and looked back along to the pumpkin and the castle – that view is priceless!

Main Street

We walked through the village which was very interesting as there were men and women dressed as demons, some were on bendy stilts, (boy could they move on them!) basically scaring people and even running after some into the shops! There weren’t scaring the little ones though. One of them kissed my elderly aunt and left red make up on her cheek!! HA HA!

Back to our room, again via the shop (!) and DD almost cried when we gave her the handbag! A very good day!

Thanks for sharing. The photos are great. I am sure they really enjoyed their scary hair it looks great. Did someone else get the first show on video perhaps you can borrow it to see?
I am sure the menus are not the thing to order. I think it is better to order from the main menu. Someone was complaining about the menu in Annette's recently. At least the children had a good meal.
I am glad your daughter had a good time. It must be a great experience for them to go somewhere like Disney and have a chance to perform.

Hi, yes the show was videoed by the same guy who was doing the official photos so we will be able to get a copy, along with the photos.

I had read good reviews about the silver spur, so we were very disappointed

Lynn

You must be so proud of your DD and thank goodness you will be able to see the video. :goodvibes

Shame about the meal at the Silver Spur :sad2: but at least you got to take that fab photo on Main Street. :wizard:
