DDs dancing class successfully applied to dance in the Fantasy Stage in Fantasyland, their dance teacher organised the room bookings and we had to sort our own transport, we opted to fly BMI Baby from Durham Tees Valley, only about 12 miles from us.
No one else in our party had ever been to a Disney park before, and for my relatives this was the biggest holiday they had ever had, and very expensive for a few days. I stressed over the arrangements for months, and following advice from these boards decided to let everyone do their own thing, rather than me go into full military planning mode! I was also worrying about the extent of the queues as it was half term week.
I did book in advance the following:
Electric wheelchair from C.O.M.M. I had their details emailed to me from DLRP disabilities team, for aunt with breathing problems, cant walk very far, cost 150 euros per week, no discount for less days
RS Transport 2 x 8 seater minibuses return journey, quoted 400 euros, to save time and effort catching the shuttle bus or train.
Cape Cod restaurant in Newport Bay Club for our arrival evening, 8.30pm
Café Mickey for our second night at 7pm
The long range weather forecast gave showers and heavy rain for our entire stay, I hoped it would be wrong as it would be miserable being rained on all the time with so much walking and queuing.
My relatives travelled to us from Cumbria on the morning of Sunday 22nd Oct, we had snacks and drinks and all 16 of us set off in convoy to airport, leaving their people carrier in our garage and parking 2 cars at the airport. Check in had just opened at 1.15pm and we all got seats together at the back of the plane. The sun was shining and everything was running on time. Continued on to passport control where most of us had a bag or body search, my aunt had left make up in her hand luggage (DOH!) and had several items confiscated!!! She was traumatised at losing her lippy and mascara (!) but it amused us for several days! LOL!
We boarded plane and left on time at 3.15pm, it was quite a bumpy flight; my uncle had never flown before but wasnt bothered as he thought that was normal! The BMI staff were a bit abrupt and not very friendly, thought they must have had a long day!
Landed at Charles de Gaulle airport and collected luggage fairly easily, walked miles to arrivals and were met by two RS Transport drivers holding a card with my name on MR LYNN! Hilarious to everyone else in my group, theyre still cracking that one! They were Indian gentleman and wore smart suits, one spoke very good English, the other didnt say a lot. They swiftly got us through to elevators and held two for our group and soon we were on our way on the very busy wet Parisian motorway. On arrival at the Newport Bay Club I gave them 220 euros as instructed in their email, with the remaining 180 to be paid on the return journey. Check in wasnt too busy and they allowed me to sort all 5 rooms booked for us. I was served by a very lovely Frenchman with excellent English, who explained everything I needed to know, could have talked to him all evening .! Sorry, back to reality, we were all on different floors and had breakfast tickets in each room pack, all mine were for the Yacht club at 7.30/7.45/9.15 but all others in our group were for the Cape Cod at similar times, didnt realise this until later but it didnt matter, we went in at different times anyway. The wheelchair was ready for collection at the concierge desk, where I left the payment. My DD thought it was great driving it along the corridors!! We found a luggage trolley and headed for the rooms all on different floors friend and boys on 2nd floor, same level as reception, unfortunately this was a smoking room and had to open windows for fresh air to blow through, never thought to ask specifically for non smoking. In laws on 3rd floor, Great Aunt and cousin + kids on 3rd floor overlooking the pool, we were on 4th (looking onto the back road in exactly the same corridor as when we stayed there 6 years ago after the lift take left, right, left, right, left yes that one!!), and aunt and uncle on 5th just around the corner from the lift, they had same room as everyone else except it had a king size bed in instead of 2 doubles, glad I asked for room not far from lift due to disability.
We all met in Cape Cod restaurant around 8.30pm and got through check in quickly, within no time the queue was to the stairs and people were waiting a long time for tables. We were all pleasantly surprised by the excellent buffet, lots of choice and didnt feel too busy around the buffet area. Cost 25 euros per adult + drinks, kids were 12 euros including drink, very good value and good service from the staff.
With all of us very tired we went to our rooms, via the shop of course! Unpacked and slept.
