We leave in 8 days and she may have to have pins put in tomorrow. Any insight you can give us on how to do Disney with a broken arm would be greatly appreciated.

Can she get a waterproof cast? DS12 broken his arm one week before our DCL/WDW vacation. No pins - so it is a bit different. He didn't slow down one bit.

1. Waterproof cast or not, I do not recommend swimming with it. It will take "forever" for the skin and padding inside the cast to dry and the wetness will be clammy and uncomfortable.

2. DD must never grab anything with that hand (to hold on or whatever). You may want to at least remind her when you get on any ride that might shake or swerve or bounce.

3. If DD lags behind you, then slow down. Don't make her work up a sweat keeping up with the family. See #1.

I think swimming is out of the question this trip. Does DD qualify for a GAC? The problem with the lines is getting bumped or her bumping into someone else. She does not have a cast. It is a splint wrapped with an ace bandage from wrist to shoulder. I am worried if she gets bumped it will move. She will not be going on any of the big rides. Also, it is going to be a long, hot day for her carrying the big heavy limb around.

Does that qualify her for one?

If you have not checked out the disABILITIES FAQs thread yet, there is a section about GACs that can help you. There are no "qualifying conditions" for GACs - just go to Guest Services and explain your concerns and see what they have to suggest.
A GAC may not be all that helpful though because she is just as likely (maybe more) to get bumped while moving around from place to place in the parks or in places like restaurants as she is in lines.
You may want to rent a wheelchair for her and bring a fluffy pillow for her to rest her arm on so that she is not having to 'hold' the weight of it all day.
You didn't say how old she is, but if she is a smaller child (like under 4.5 feet tall), she might be more comfortable in a stroller than in a wheelchair. You can get a GAC that allows a stroller to be used in lines.

You will probably need to get a new cast when you get back. My brother had a arm cast several years ago and he sweated so much that the padding got all gross. It actually reaked. It was no big deal though, they removed the old one and put on a new one.

My son broke his nose and arm in one Rugby game a week before we left. He had a swim cast put on, and had surgery to set the nose the day before we left. He couldn't put his head under water, but as far as the swim cast goes, he went to both water parks and got on just about everything but two rides. He had no pins, so I'm sure your daughter can't do that much, but we had no problem with the swim cast at all. Our Dr. said all he needed to do was rinse the chlorine off of it after he got out.
